badgerx16 Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 and well done to the other Brits in the race ,they raced as a team to get Cav to the front. After winning the green jersey in this years TDF what a fantastic season it has been. It was the culmination of a 2 -3 year plan which involved getting sufficient riders onto the pro tour to then gain enough points to qualify the numbers for this race, and then Wiggins, Millar, etc rode themselves to exhaustion at the head of the field for most of the race to set Cav up. A brilliant team effort and a trademark finish from the Missile. And don't forget GB came top of the overall medal table with Wiggo's silver in the time trial & Emma Pooley's 3rd in the women's pro road race, and 1 each of gold, silver, and bronze in the junior races. ( And HTC Highroad riders won 3 of the 4 senior road races - not bad for a team that's about to fold )
ottery st mary Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 (edited) The whole team did a brilliant job......At times I worried on the gaps but Captain Millar and Wiggins kept the team to the fore of the peleton..well done.... The Cat Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 That was an epic performance from the whole British team. I loved watching the 8 man GB train on the front of the peleton so much I almost got a semi. I've said it before and probably won't stop saying it until he retires, but Mark Cavendish is the best sportsman in this country by a fecking mile. AndyNorthernSaints Posted 26 September, 2011 Share Posted 26 September, 2011 Just watched highlights. Great performance from team GB. First World Champion since 1965 the late Tom Simpson. Hopefully Cav will get sports personality of the year rather than an over paid/rated premier league footballer.
