Luke shaw to Arsenal????

The Majestic Channon

Recommended Posts

This was rumoured last season, there were even rumours that the Arse were demanding him as part of the Oxo deal. Frankly they can bugger right off as far as I'm concerned and if the rumours are true, (which at the moment is a fairl large if,) then lets get him signed on a long term pro contract ASAP.

If the arse wanna spend obscene amounts on our untried players then let them,I'm happy to let all the young 'stars' go for silly money,it enables us to go out and buy gifted and tried youngsters like jack cork,it also allows us to offer decent contracts to genius players like lallana as well as being able to offer good wages to the experienced players.

I think we all have to realise this is the point of our youth system,it is a very good income stream for the club, better than any other income stream and it really is the gift that keeps on giving.there really is no other setup probably in Europe that is as good as ours and most clubs would sell their back teeth to have it.

Keep on producing and keep on selling I say,it can only make the team better.

Oi Wenger, can we at least see this kid play before you come knocking ?

In all honesty after the way NC ensured Arsenal paid far far more than they wanted or expected to with Alex I would imagine they will tread very carefully with us in the future. But its The Mirror so it must be true....

Not to pee on anyone's bonfire here but is he on a pro contract? If not then it's gonig to tribunal and we'll get (relative) peanuts for him.

Think you have to be 17 before you can have a pro contract. Shaw is only just 16, won't be 17 until next season. I guess its not inconceivable that he will break Theo's record for the youngest player if he gets a game in the next 3-4 months.

Arsenal are really getting the treatment from the big clubs and are likely to lose more of their stars so it's not only one way. On the up side they will bring in loads of money so if they force the sale of one of our players it will cost them megabucks. Probably far more than the individual is worth to the club as a current player, making the megabucks easily useable to buy a number of better players for the team, rather than never have the mature (potentially, maybe, sometime) great player possibly after some years of development and constant unsettling media which could lead to a weaker team overall.

For a start...

Theo Walcott came from Swindon Town

Adam Lallana came from AFC Bournemouth

Saints are just as bad for doing it as others.

except that we do it at a lower level.

If Arsenals scouts were really hot they'd have got them before us.

..and anyway, it's be nice to see the lad play a few games on our way to promotion...

Why does that matter? Not many clubs can steal the top youth players from larger clubs than themselves.

Luke Shaw has been at Saints since he was 8 years old. I doubt his parents were going to take him to Arsenal for training on school nights, when a perfectly good academy at Southampton offers him a place.

Thanks for pointing that out.....it's hardly an issue then.

Chelsea has staff working in and around Hampshire, with Spurs doing something similar in Winchester. We currently have an ETC centre on a Thursday night for Hampshire boys to come along and receive additional coaching which obviously leads to player ID and recommendation for our academy at Cobham.

So they are slowly starting to take note of the pool of talent in Hampshire, which normally Southampton and Bournemouth lead the way in when recruiting young players.

I always feel uneasy when inviting a player up to our ETC or recommending to our Hampshire scout if I am impressed on a Sunday morning as its yet another player that should of been spotted by Saints and even Pompey (who by the way, have an awful, awful set up when it comes to ETC and academy).

Some of my boys from Hayling United are with Chelsea along with nippers from Pickwick Youth, Moneyfields, Fleur De Lys, Purbrook Athletic. It is just wrong.

If anyone does have a nipper ever invited to Portsmouth’s ETC or academy, PLEASE reject, it is god awful!!

Im sure we keep hold of him he may get a few games this season if hes that promising and next season if we keep up our good form be a prem team.

Also our new facilities will be one of the best in europe like Barca Man City (new plans they have) Madrid Ajax Utd and Arsenals.

Worse case if he does play a few games gets noticed we prove under NC were no mugs and were get marjory of money upfront we wont fall for this instalments or add ons players under 24 have in there transfer fees.

Luke Shaw, along with Jake Sinclair, James Ward-Prowse etc signed a 3 year pro deal in December 2010.

Six others signed pro deals in April 2010...

If Shaw were to go it would be for a very large fee.

He was at Swindon Town's Centre of Excellence for 18 months and Saints got him for £2,000.

I think some might argue that the 6 years he spent in Saints Youth set-up did more to further his career than the 18 months

he spent at Swindon as a 10 year-old!

I bet that Chelsea don't hold up Jack Cork as a good example of their Youth set-up.

He was with them as a pre-teen. Captained their Youth and Reserves sides.

Played for England Youth at all levels upto and including U21.....and they still didn't keep him!

Signed for Saints for a paltry 750K which may well be one of the best deals we've ever done...and they will live to regret it. You have to look hard to find many Chelsea first-teamers who went through their Youth sides.

Better that a youngster starts with the best Academy set-up (Saints)... from the start.

I am involved at AFC Totton and about a year or so ago Luke and one of his team mates were lodging with one of our supporters and they were treated to an AFC Totton game one evening, undoubtedly the experience of watching The Mighty Stags has taught Luke everything he knows so he will be destined for big things as a result (-: A word or two of advice Luke, STAY WITH SAINTS MUSH!!!

It's odd they let Cork go so easily. I really think young players look far better in better teams. Cork has always been good, and improved hugely, but playing in a better team this year he looks outstanding. So how might he have looked in Chelsea's midfield? If McEachran can do it, or Cleverley at Man Utd, Wlishere at Arsenal, why not Cork? He may not be quite as good, or a different style of player, but he was definitely good enough to deserve a chance. They spend a fortune on the likes of Mikel, Ramires, Meireles but could have had a good player already there. Who knows how good he'll be, but I think he could definitely be a top 10 Premier League midfielder for most his career.

In fairness Cork is a class player at only 21 shows hes too good for the championship, and could walk into any side bar the top 6/7 clubs in the prem but im not sure he could play for a top 6/7 club regularly, im sure if he reaches his potential he would be a back up for a team like chelsea, but he sounds like a lad that would rather play 35-40 games then 15-20 games a season.

When is this kid's 17th birthday? we desperately need to get him tied down to a pro contract!

EDIT: 12/07

Think they must have changed the rules since the Walcott/Bale days.

Still, I'm getting sick and tired of our 11 year olds being linked with other clubs he hasn't even made a league start for us AFAIK. I don't care how much we could get for him I'd rather not sell a 16 year old thanks. Particularly to Redknapp or Wenger both of which I'm none too fond of.
