The Majestic Channon Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Is he really a ' wonderkid' ??? http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-ready-to-sign-Southampton-wonderkid-Luke-Shaw-to-join-Theo-Walcott-and-Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain-article803915.html
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Why don't Arsenal just f**k off & concentrate on their own youngsters instead of obsessing with ours?
skintsaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 really informative piece. Im sure all top clubs have scouts at our youth games given our recent form of producing good players anyway.
farawaysaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 This was rumoured last season, there were even rumours that the Arse were demanding him as part of the Oxo deal. Frankly they can bugger right off as far as I'm concerned and if the rumours are true, (which at the moment is a fairl large if,) then lets get him signed on a long term pro contract ASAP.
paulwantsapint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Round 2 NC v Arse NC - right 1 hour to sort out deal or leave forever I want £15m + add ons Afc - well we are thinking more £1m NC - gentlemen you have 59 mins to stump up the cash & meet me valuation or get out of my stadium Afc - can we start negotiating NC - ok if you can meet my valuation in the next 58 mins I will waive the car parking ticket & won't charge you for the tea & coffee you are drinking or the biscuits you are eating

brmbrm Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Yeah, that's right, great business etc Thebn it goes: NC: Oh by a da way, can we loan a few of your young stars for the rest of the season? AFC: f*&k off Repeat indefinitely with every other club we have ps$ed off
lordswoodsaints Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 If the arse wanna spend obscene amounts on our untried players then let them,I'm happy to let all the young 'stars' go for silly money,it enables us to go out and buy gifted and tried youngsters like jack cork,it also allows us to offer decent contracts to genius players like lallana as well as being able to offer good wages to the experienced players. I think we all have to realise this is the point of our youth system,it is a very good income stream for the club, better than any other income stream and it really is the gift that keeps on giving.there really is no other setup probably in Europe that is as good as ours and most clubs would sell their back teeth to have it. Keep on producing and keep on selling I say,it can only make the team better.
aintforever Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Wenger can **** off, I can't wait til they fail to qualify for the Champs League and their scummy club starts falling apart.
Saint_clark Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Why don't Arsenal just f**k off & concentrate on their own youngsters instead of obsessing with ours? This. Really starting to annoy me.
farawaysaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Not to pee on anyone's bonfire here but is he on a pro contract? If not then it's gonig to tribunal and we'll get (relative) peanuts for him.
beatlesaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Oi Wenger, can we at least see this kid play before you come knocking ? In all honesty after the way NC ensured Arsenal paid far far more than they wanted or expected to with Alex I would imagine they will tread very carefully with us in the future. But its The Mirror so it must be true....
VectisSaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Not to pee on anyone's bonfire here but is he on a pro contract? If not then it's gonig to tribunal and we'll get (relative) peanuts for him. Think you have to be 17 before you can have a pro contract. Shaw is only just 16, won't be 17 until next season. I guess its not inconceivable that he will break Theo's record for the youngest player if he gets a game in the next 3-4 months.
ThreeSixty Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Recycling 6 month old tribalfootball nonsense. Well, The Mirror is nothing but resourceful.
thegaffer Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Arsenals Pat Rice thinks Shaw has a big future in the game.
Saint Charlie Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Arsenals Pat Rice thinks Shaw has a big future in the game. No suprise really seeing as he plays for England Youth and is one of the top prospects in our great setup.
The Cat Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Who have arsenal ever given us anyway? Scott Marshall? Fck them. David Howells, Perry Groves, Neil Heaney. Yeah, Fck them.
Doctoroncall Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Repeat indefinitely with every other club we have ps$ed off ...and what clubs are those then?
Matthew Le God Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 ...and what clubs are those then? For a start... Theo Walcott came from Swindon Town Adam Lallana came from AFC Bournemouth Saints are just as bad for doing it as others.
derry Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Arsenal are really getting the treatment from the big clubs and are likely to lose more of their stars so it's not only one way. On the up side they will bring in loads of money so if they force the sale of one of our players it will cost them megabucks. Probably far more than the individual is worth to the club as a current player, making the megabucks easily useable to buy a number of better players for the team, rather than never have the mature (potentially, maybe, sometime) great player possibly after some years of development and constant unsettling media which could lead to a weaker team overall.
david in sweden Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 For a start... Theo Walcott came from Swindon Town Adam Lallana came from AFC Bournemouth Saints are just as bad for doing it as others. except that we do it at a lower level. If Arsenals scouts were really hot they'd have got them before us. ..and anyway, it's be nice to see the lad play a few games on our way to promotion...
Matthew Le God Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 (edited) except that we do it at a lower level. Why does that matter? Not many clubs can steal the top youth players from larger clubs than themselves. If Arsenals scouts were really hot they'd have got them before us. Luke Shaw has been at Saints since he was 8 years old. I doubt his parents were going to take him to Arsenal for training on school nights, when a perfectly good academy at Southampton offers him a place. Edited 25 September, 2011 by Matthew Le God
VectisSaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Anyone know who Luke's old man supports? As long as he isn't a Skate we will probably be OK.
Doctoroncall Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 For a start... Theo Walcott came from Swindon Town Adam Lallana came from AFC Bournemouth Saints are just as bad for doing it as others. So it's only two clubs we have peed off some time ago then. Easy to take that hit.

Right sider Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 David Howells, Perry Groves, Neil Heaney. Yeah, Fck them. Howells from Spurs, Groves and Heaney we bought. Arsenal don't loan players to us anyway.
Leicestersaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 It would be nice to see him play for us before he gets nicked by Arsenal
Dark Munster Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 If Arsenal get relegated this season, and we go up, I wonder if we can get Walcott, AOC and Shaw on loan? After all, they would need to be playing Premiership football.
Legod Third Coming Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Unfortunately, until we are regularly top six in the Premiership this is going to happen.
Monk Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Chelsea has staff working in and around Hampshire, with Spurs doing something similar in Winchester. We currently have an ETC centre on a Thursday night for Hampshire boys to come along and receive additional coaching which obviously leads to player ID and recommendation for our academy at Cobham. So they are slowly starting to take note of the pool of talent in Hampshire, which normally Southampton and Bournemouth lead the way in when recruiting young players. I always feel uneasy when inviting a player up to our ETC or recommending to our Hampshire scout if I am impressed on a Sunday morning as its yet another player that should of been spotted by Saints and even Pompey (who by the way, have an awful, awful set up when it comes to ETC and academy). Some of my boys from Hayling United are with Chelsea along with nippers from Pickwick Youth, Moneyfields, Fleur De Lys, Purbrook Athletic. It is just wrong. If anyone does have a nipper ever invited to Portsmouth’s ETC or academy, PLEASE reject, it is god awful!!
sammysaint Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 Im sure we keep hold of him he may get a few games this season if hes that promising and next season if we keep up our good form be a prem team. Also our new facilities will be one of the best in europe like Barca Man City (new plans they have) Madrid Ajax Utd and Arsenals. Worse case if he does play a few games gets noticed we prove under NC were no mugs and were get marjory of money upfront we wont fall for this instalments or add ons players under 24 have in there transfer fees.
Monk Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 I can asure you, ours will not be anything like Ajax's, that is something else!! But you are right, it will be on of the best in Europe, fingers crossed once I've completed my B licence I'll be applying for a posistion there!!

Nexstar Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 I thought Theo came from Oxford. Played for Newbury, then Swindon and then Saints.

He was with them as a pre-teen. Captained their Youth and Reserves sides. Played for England Youth at all levels upto and including U21.....and they still didn't keep him! Signed for Saints for a paltry 750K which may well be one of the best deals we've ever done...and they will live to regret it. You have to look hard to find many Chelsea first-teamers who went through their Youth sides. Better that a youngster starts with the best Academy set-up (Saints)... from the start. CLOTH EARS Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 I am involved at AFC Totton and about a year or so ago Luke and one of his team mates were lodging with one of our supporters and they were treated to an AFC Totton game one evening, undoubtedly the experience of watching The Mighty Stags has taught Luke everything he knows so he will be destined for big things as a result (-: A word or two of advice Luke, STAY WITH SAINTS MUSH!!!
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 25 September, 2011 Posted 25 September, 2011 This is just a journo doing a join the dots gossip snippet: Luke Shaw looked good for England youth, Arsenal signed Theo and AOC, therefore Arsenal are after Luke Shaw.
Benali Saint Posted 26 September, 2011 Posted 26 September, 2011 David Howells, Perry Groves, Neil Heaney. Yeah, Fck them. Howells was from Spurs
sammysaint Posted 26 September, 2011 Posted 26 September, 2011 It's odd they let Cork go so easily. I really think young players look far better in better teams. Cork has always been good, and improved hugely, but playing in a better team this year he looks outstanding. So how might he have looked in Chelsea's midfield? If McEachran can do it, or Cleverley at Man Utd, Wlishere at Arsenal, why not Cork? He may not be quite as good, or a different style of player, but he was definitely good enough to deserve a chance. They spend a fortune on the likes of Mikel, Ramires, Meireles but could have had a good player already there. Who knows how good he'll be, but I think he could definitely be a top 10 Premier League midfielder for most his career. In fairness Cork is a class player at only 21 shows hes too good for the championship, and could walk into any side bar the top 6/7 clubs in the prem but im not sure he could play for a top 6/7 club regularly, im sure if he reaches his potential he would be a back up for a team like chelsea, but he sounds like a lad that would rather play 35-40 games then 15-20 games a season.

farawaysaint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Think they must have changed the rules since the Walcott/Bale days. Still, I'm getting sick and tired of our 11 year olds being linked with other clubs he hasn't even made a league start for us AFAIK. I don't care how much we could get for him I'd rather not sell a 16 year old thanks. Particularly to Redknapp or Wenger both of which I'm none too fond of.
