Cardiff Build-Up

The Ref is due to be Phil Gibbs from the West Midlands (Solihull).

I believe he only started doing FL games in 2008 before that he was mainly in charge of Football Conf games and was assistant head teacher at Kings Heath Boys' School in Birmingham.

Saints games

2010/11

v Colchester (a) Won 2-0 send off one of their players for raising his hands to Butterfield.

v Orient (H) Drew 1-1 last league home game for AP; Rickie scored deflected freekick but in general we didn't play well.

Note a number of the Stats D/Bs say he was in charge of the 1-0 Win a Yeovil (17/4/2010) when Morgan was sent off, however the O/S, Echo & BBC all say the Ref that day was Oliver Langford, so there was probably a change of Ref and the Stats D/B are wrong.

A quick browse on their forums and they're talking about whether bring in their young academy kids as they're so stretched for anyone up front.

They still have real quality in Whittingham though, we need to pay close attention to him.

A few interesting snippets from thier forum:

http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60488 Some seem to looking forward to our visit

http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60547 Panorama soon to go out with a programme on football corruption, 3 current Prem managers implicated apparently.

There was also a bit about 300 Brighton fans travelling to Plymouth at the weekend in support of their situation, fair play to them, repaying the support they received from fellow football fans when they were turfed out of the Goldstone.

Also read about some Cardiff fans and skates in court last week following trouble at fartton. A skate mob were attacking Cardiff fans when a load piled off a coach and then attacked the skates. All the fighting apparently caught on video but noone sent down. Fence rattling obviously a nawtier offence.

Could go either way. We can't go the expecting to win, it'll be very difficult and a win would be outstanding. Can't believe some aren't happy with drawing at burnley.

I can understand why, Burnely haven't won at home this season and haven't been very good in the league we are on fire before the match that pointed to a win for us. Come the match we were poor for 60mins and still could have won it with a little more clinical finishing so I can see why some people felt it was two points dropped.

Personally at 1 nil down with 10mins to go it felt like a good draw in the end to me.

Back to the Cardiff game tough but winnable if we play the way we have been. If we start like we did against Leicester or Burnley we could be in trouble.

Yep, there is plenty of footage on the News website. Can clearly see kicks to the head whilst on the ground etc - much worse than any footage I saw from our derby match last season.

They did win at Derby. No mean feat.

so apparantly we have to use fox every game now as we paid 1.8m for him, poor harding might as well hang up his boots, my point was a wednesday night game at cardiff might be more suited to hardings style of play than foxs

Yep, it's a ridiculous thing to say. We have a squad and how much we pay for a player will have no bearing on how likely they are to start.

Only according to MLG who brings up Fox's price tag everytime anyone dares to mention Harding. Totally ridiculous to think that Nigel will base his team selection on how much we paid for a player. Connolly was free so he certainly shouldn't be in the first 11 ........

but he would pay that amount, when you already have two good LBs, for a cover LB - reckon would only have signed him if he thinks he is significantly better than Harding and therefore most likely to play

Or if he possesses different qualities and can be utilised in different games. Or he is at least as good as Harding and anyone with a cheaper price tag was not as good? It's about competition for places and to suggest that his price tag has any bearing on his place in the team is a nonsense.

At this level of the game, well any level if you have the players its not as black and white as who is better in a certain position, for instance, when talking about strikers you can have quick and skillfull or a target man etc etc

Why would this be different at LB ??

FWIW I think Fox fits in much better to the way we play currently, I.E moving forward and taking the game to the opposition. For this reason I think Fox will probably start, but it depends really what Adkins wants, I mean, does he want a solid no nonsense, fully committed FB against their winger ?? Or does he want to push their winger back by playing two attaking minded players on that flank ??

I would go for the latter

Harding gets forward - if anything, im surprised that Fox doesn't the attack the space in front of him more, though he obviously delivers a better ball. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing both Harding and Fox play together (Fox has featured as a winger for previous clubs), especially where we have to go away and do a job.

Its opinions but im not a massive lover of the lad, lightweight, not quick enough and tries to much.

Am a big fan of Connolly; but I agree in a few games he's looked a tad lightweight - and we've lacked penetration. I thinks its exposed even more as we have lots of attacking players who like to drop into deeper positions.

Fox will be first choice. Not because of his price tag, but because as well as being a defender, his set pieces can create numerous extra chances in a match.

not a very good one though, better than harding going forward but IMO leaves us very exposed at the back. Can't help thinking he'd be a better LW than LB.

Excellent news - so i make that as the following players out:

Rob Earnshaw

Rudy Gestede

Lee Naylor

Andrew Taylor

Mark Hudson

Craig Conway

and i like the line "manager Malky Mackay tried to bring in a short-term loan player to cover for his injured stars but has so far failed in his bids"

we should have a decent chance of winning this with all those players out.

and Stephen Mcphail is out according to Mackay, he also says on his interview that he has tried for 6 players but hasn't been able to get any of them.

Hudson and Lee Naylor will most probably be fit to play.

The Bluebirds have also received another blow, with full-back Lee Naylor, who replaced the injured Andrew Taylor against Leicester, out of tomorrow's match with a calf injury.

But better news for the Bluebirds comes as captain Mark Hudson and winger Craig Conway are at least both expected to return for the trip to Humberside

I can sort of understand your comments about his lack of physical pace and strength' date=' but what do you mean by 'tries to [sic'] much'? As in tries to hard or is too fancy?

I seem to be the only one who notices it ( or i'm wrong ) but he seems to try and play to many "fancy" balls in behind players or on the volley round the corner and we get hit on the break loads... burnley this happened twice. Would never knock a player for working to hard, its not his fault as in certain games he's made for it... Leeds being the prime example, i just think away from home we need pace to hit sides on the break quicker.

The UI are saying there will be no away tickets on the night. Can anyone confirm or deny this i.e has anyone contacted CCFC?

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2464938,00.html

Saints have sold nearly 2,000 tickets for Wednesday's trip to Cardiff City.

There are no more tickets available at St. Mary's with 300 tickets now returned to The Bluebirds, to be sold from the ticket office at the Cardiff City Stadium.

These will be available from 6.45pm at the away ticket office, however, please note, there is a £2 increase on all tickets on the day of the game.
