um pahars Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Most people in sport understand this deal. It's not about 'freebies' - it's about loyalty, gratitude and PR. Whilst I appreciate some people will see it as freebies, my position is line with your view above. Both have been awarded Freedom of the City status and IMHO should be given the Freedom of St Mary's. sammysaint Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 I think they should 2 free tickets a season and maybe discount on tickets for other games and if we make wembley appearance offer them boxes at a decent price. But they were paid for there work they did always will be legends and if i was a ex player or manager that would be enough for me, having the fans love me. Topcat Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Cortese has always had a very weak understanding of PR, Marketing and the Club's history. Of the attendances Saints have been getting, at least 10% are probably due to Mac's period as Manager and a further 10% due to MLT. It is our history in the 70s, 80s and 90s that brought us some of the highest attendances in L1 relative to other Clubs. It is why we get better attendances than many Clubs including some in the Pemiership. It is called heritage. Rupert Lowe also had problems with LMac's heritage and preferred a photo of a train to LMac. Says it all about Lowe and why we need to be careful about Cortese. Daren W Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 what are you on about..?fans are saying MLT should pay for tickets as that is what everyone has to do....no one gets freebies anymore....deffo not multi millionaires...if freebies were being dished out, I bet you would not find many (if at all) saints fans saying MLT does not deserve one or five..this is all getting silly.. It's not that difficult to understand.... When Le Tiss was playing for not one person would have argued against a ticket for life. Now he no longer plays/does anything for the club, people no longer care... "Oh he can afford it, he should pay." If Matt had that sort of attitude he'd have left our club years before he finally retired. We'll forget that there would be no club without the likes of Matt or Lawrie. Their achievements made this club the attractive proposition for the likes of Leibherr and Cortese. The odd free ticket, bearing in mind we're not selling out every week, isn't going to hurt anyone but this isn't an issue about the cost of the ticket, I'm sure Matt and Lawrie can easily afford tickets, it's about showing our old boys some basic respect... One small black mark against Cortese... is that so hard to accept or is our chairman isn't completely and utterly faultless? Reading some of the replies here I'm a little shocked that we care so little about some of our former legends. We've gone from one extreme to another, from people milking all the freebies they can to two of our greatest names being called freeloaders for allegedly asking for the occasional free ticket.. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Football clubs just aren't as sentimental as some fans would like - if it's club policy that everyone pays (and this is applied fairly to all) then I find it hard to object to that in principle. Dismissing Matt Le Tissier as a paid employee whose relationship with the club ended the day his contract for his paid employment finished. Jesus. Meanwhile the chief executive seems to have become Mr Southampton. Do point me in the direction of an interview of Nicola Cortese that will stir my blood like Le Tissier's double against Newcastle. Or his cheeky free kick v Wimbledon. Or his dinky dribble against Liverpool. Do show me, because I think I'm missing something. Soutampton Football Club is about more than one man of course. But Matt Le Tissier is worth ten thousand Nicola Corteses. Ten thousand. Cortese is a termite in the history of this club. Le Tiss is a collosus. But you keep ****ing over his interviews boys. And let's wait for the day which may well come when Lallana asks for a move to a bigger club. Or even Lambert. Or Fonte. or anyone. And let's hear the squinnying and grizzling from the same snivelling ****s who have written off Matthew Le Tissier. You same shameful shower will be squealing loyalty like the *****es you are. I guarantee you were all whining like women about A O-C crying where's the loyalty? Loyalty works both ways. God knows why any Saints player would want to be loyal to you *****s. If Matt Le Tissier is "just an employee paid to do a job" then what chance do they have. Get out Adam Lallana while you can, these fans are a bunch of utter ****s. Agree with you on Le Tiss As for Cortese yes he's made mistakes and doesn't do himself many favours with PR like this, but calling him a termite considering the progress the club has made under his leadership not to mention he apparently first recommended us to Markus is well, short-sighted is an understatement. I'll remind you of a previous occasion when you called Cortese names which was when Pardew got dismissed and you were ridiculing our calls of "let's judge after we see who the replacement is" just as Nigel Adkins was going for his interview. Still think sacking Pardew was a bad idea? or did Cortese prove you to be knee-jerk and pre-judgemental? Frankly I am well aware that Cortese has made mistakes during his time here, but if your far more concerned with club legends not being given token-gesture free tickets whilst gleefully ignoring the fact the club's excellent progress under his leadership that justifies calling Cortese a "termite" that's up to you. There will always be planks who will be ridiculously pro-one chairman or anti-another chairman and consider them immune from criticism or praise. We went through all that with Lowe Luvvies and Wilde Worshippers and Scooby and Saint-Richmond. But even if I am pro-Cortese I am not blinkered (and neither are most Cortese supporters). Maybe that's because I look at the big picture and don't have any time for petty squabbles and neither does Cortese. I will gladly admit he has made mistakes during his time here but at the end of the day he is human and Frankly with the club's recent progress, I couldn't give a flying **** about MLT's and Cortese's poor relationship. I'm afraid there are always 2 sides to every story. . . Edited 26 September, 2011 by Jimmy_D fixing the swear filter
washsaint Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 CB Fry - you have made yourself look a complete tool, and a nasty piece of work, with your insults and vitriol. Everyone has opinions - FWIW I wish they would all make up. But no one person makes the club - not MLT, not NC, not anyone. the club will be here long after all the current protaginists are long gone. MLT was a fantastic player for us and it was a privilege to see him in his prime but, quite honestly, once his playing career was over that was that and what he thinks/says no longer really matters. I will always cherish the MLT in his prime for us but that era has gone and we are now entering a new, exciting era.
