TopGun Posted 23 September, 2011 Share Posted 23 September, 2011 I like a manager in a suit and Nigel has smart ones on match day. Much better than grotty tracksuits preferred by some other managers IMO. Don't suppose it matters a great deal but it's how I like it! Just like Lawrie Mac did in similar halcyon days. Any views? angelman Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 I like a manager in a suit and Nigel has smart ones on match day. Any views? I must disagree a bit (if I might be a bit retentive!). You say it is a smart suit, but he wears a belt with it. You should never wear a belt with a suit, and "smart ones" don't have belt loops. HTH. angelman Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Hamster - it's not tosh. Go get a suit made from a proper tailor in Saville Row and see what their facial expression is like when you ask for loops in your trousers. No doubt some tat like Armani has belt loops, but I wouldn't consider that a proper suit, just an over expensive off the peg one. One is supposed to wear braces. But not to get diverted from the OP, I have to agree that NA and people such a Wenger do look so much better in suits rather than shorts. I wonder whether it is done in any small way to give an air of authority to the players
hamster Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Saville Row suits are not for normal people though. They look out of place unless in the company of like-minded Saville Row patrons. Class? Two words - dubia + phil I have 3 suits. I do not own a tracksuit.

gogo_saint Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 I can't remember where I read this but one famous manager said that wearing a tracksuit in the week then a suit on a match day has a psychological effect on the players. Something to do with making match days more important and little sub conscious tinkering in the players minds. Wenger, Ferguson, Guardiola, Mourinho all dress smart for matches... Wonder what the effect would be if the Northam came all in Tuxedo's one Saturday? Either that or maybe he just likes it.

I think this is the best way to dress as a manager, i coach and love wearing the tracksuits only time it makes you look professional when teaching kids but when you get to the adult game its better to tracksuit weekdays and suit match day. JonnyLove Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 What a great Idea for the last home game of the season. Everyone come in a suit / tuxedo. Obviously with the Saints shirt underneath the Jacket

Dalek2003 Posted 24 September, 2011 Share Posted 24 September, 2011 Hoddle was a tracksuit manager and one of SFC's most successful managers, Lawrie was a suit man. WGS varied his attire.
