Badvoc Posted 18 October, 2011 Share Posted 18 October, 2011 As a matter of interest, as we have no choice in travel arrangements for the game, could the club/Hants Police be liable to any litigation should any injuries occur to Saints travelling on official coaches? Not sure whether the fact we don't have a choice here potemtially opens them up to any personal injury claims sustained by antisocial behaviour? I would hope this is buttoned up in case of the odd brick thrown from a road bridge..

positivepete Posted 18 October, 2011 Share Posted 18 October, 2011 I was chatting to a Leeds fan today and he was saying this arrangement is normal for them. They only get the tickets when they are at the away ground to stop tickets being exchanged in service stations. At least it is a one off for us if it happens that way. We don't "always" struggle to sell them, they haven't always sold out immediately on the ballot but once they opened up to all they go. 9,000 wasn't anywhere near enough in 1984, there were even forgeries for the fartton end going around certain section of Saints fans We will have no trouble selling these tickets, there wont be enough to satisfy demand. There’s not a chance they would give “the scummers” more than usual opponents and the same as we could offer them when their place only holds little over 21,000. Unfortunately you can’t believe everything you read, their own paper obviously doesn’t even know how many tickets they normally give to visitors, in our Echo on Monday, Adam Leitch said we had “just over 2000” at Derby (it was “just over” 2,600) and on West Ham’s OS it says they had “3,800”, it was 3,168. We will get considerably less than “3,200” at the sh*thole.

Bizarrely, with the usual 2100 allocation down there, I'd have agreed with you, as a lot of people simply can't be arsed with a ballot. However, with 3200, those who would have been thinking about going but weren't sure about the ballot will have been persuaded by the 50% increase in the likelihood of getting a ticket. The fact of the matter is that Saints are a family club and families make up the bulk of our support. Families don't do Pompey games.

I've been to every derby game in recent times (first was at the Dell when Merrington was in charge) and I just don't think I can be bothered this time. What I particularly don't like is where the club state you have to pick up your coach pass (they will not post them out) before the day of the game. So what is the window for picking coach passes up? If you don't live locally it could be a right pain in the arse having to make a special trip (costing 60 pounds in diesel) or attending a home game that you hadn't planned to just before the Pompey game. Totally disagree with Dune, unless our form takes a disastrous downturn this will sell out, particularly after the ballot. All those 'lads' saying they wouldn't bother as it would just be 1500 lesser-types on the bingo buses can now go as any 'lad' that wants a ticket should get one. Payback time. Wes Tender Posted 19 October, 2011 Share Posted 19 October, 2011 It'll be interesting to see whether the Pompey fans who travel to Southampton in April will be subjected to the same restraints. If not, I for one will be kicking up a fuss. Going by coach from SMS is a massive inconvenience for me and will also cost me more money, my original plan was to get a train direct from Croydon into Fratton. As I don't wear colours to games anyway, it would have been relatively straightforward to keep my head down and get from the station to the ground. I wonder whether there is any mileage in writing to the Chief Constable now and suggesting that as Southampton's fans are to be subjected to this massive inconvenience and restrictions to their basic human rights, that he can confirm in advance, in the interests of even-handiness and fair play, that Portsmouth will be sujected to the same treatment. dune Posted 19 October, 2011 Share Posted 19 October, 2011 Reading the rules and regulations for the ballot I read it that only season ticket holders can apply before 1st December, so that will then leave 18 days for the rest of us. So that is a window of 18 days (less the period of application) so maybe a 10 day window for non local fans to personally collect their travel passes as the official site says they won't be posted out. This means that just before christmas you either have to pay to travel down or attend the televisised early k/o fixture against Blackpool. It is f/cking ridiculous and worse than that it's probably a deliberate ploy to yet again penalise against fans that don't live locally.

The Kraken Posted 19 October, 2011 Share Posted 19 October, 2011 FFS - do it while a game's on. Blackpool for instance. Or just send the coach tickets out and not make it needlessly harder than it is right now. FFS. With all the restrictions in place and the game on TV I can't see us selling anywhere near our 3,200 allocation, think we could end up with around half that making the trip. dune Posted 19 October, 2011 Share Posted 19 October, 2011 Right, i've just rang the ticket office and have a few facts: 1. The allocation is 2500. 2. The police and the club got together at the start of the season and decided all the details. 3. They will not post out travel passes and the operator didn't know why and referred back to point (2). 4. The ticket office will not be open on the day of the pompey game so passes cannot be collected then. So for non season ticket holders that are not local you'll probably have a 10 day max window to travel to St Marys to pick up your travel pass.
