Tokyo-Saint Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 I may get slated for this but I would guess that less that 50% of season ticket holders regularly go to away matches. Very few people have the money or free time to go to every match home and away. If you have a season ticket, you are already committing to go to a large number of football matches each year. There are obviously uber fans who have money and few other commitments (wife, kids etc) that can make it to every game but I would say most people are like me and can go to around 20-25 matches per year. As I don't live in Southampton, I go to a mixture of home and away games. I would say that most season ticket holders only go to one or two away games per season. Not the super fans that read this forum of course but the average fan.

I have had to really clamp down on my away days since having the 2nd little one and having a mortgage hanging over my head but still do my best. Hopefully enough to get me a ticket to this one. JRM Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 You fork out your season ticket for home games. Why should someone who lives in Birmingham who goes to every away game but can only get to SMS for saturday games so not cost effective to have a season ticket miss out to someone who has one but never goes away? Away games like this should be based on average away game attendances, with priority given to season ticket holders if the average is the same. some teams do loyalty points now, you get X amount up front for being a season ticket holder, but also get points for thw away games you go to, so someone who does a lot of aways but few homes can work up a loyalty rating almost equal to that of a season ticket holder. when away tickets go on sale they go to people with X number of loyalty points on a sliding scale, seems a good idea to me. Best suggestion i've heard, to be honest. I personally believe that having a season ticket should count for a more than just entry into the home games. This loyalty system would certainly catch out all the season ticket holders who haven't been to an away game (and rightly so) and also catch out non-season ticket holding supporters who have been to a handful of "local" away games for them (also correct). It will never happen with our incompetent ticket office though.

That's a very good idea and very fair. Our incompetent ticket office migh struggle with it though seeing as how they cant even send out season tickets properly. thornhill_saints Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 i feel really bad for the non season ticket holders if they do miss out. Plenty make a large number of aways and to me they should be priority above the season ticket holders with no aways. Personally i'm not worried i've done 6 so will be fine, but the idea that a SH with non should get one above a non SH with 6 is a joke if you ask me I think that non season ticket holders that has the same amount of games as a season ticket holder i.e 23, then they should be priority if they dont they should be second in the que simples. Not a bad idea but it would still leave many dissatisfied - it still requires the club to assign an arbitrary number of points to being a season ticket holder relative to away games and that number could be as high as it wanted. Face it, its in their interest to shift season tickets. I wouldn't be surprised if systems currently run by other clubs stack the scales in a similar way. If you just do away games, you'll only as good as the number of games that have been played and unless its the very end of the season, that will always be less than 23. Take the Skates, we're only talking 10 or so away games.
dellboypete Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 I'm a non-ST and have been to 6 of the 8 aways so far (Plus palace). I didn't get a ST as over the season I know I would be unable to make it economic - I can't do mid-weeks and also travel abroad on work from time to time. However, I agree with some posters here that anyone who is/was prepared to fork out money upfront before the season starts for a ST deserves to get priority. I'm disappointed I couldn't get a ticket for Bristol, but not angry. Good luck to the ST holders. A colleague is a Chelsea ST holder and they have a loyalty points scheme based on buying tickets to away games and especially those "don't want to see" champions league and league cup games. This is then taken into account for the "Must see" champions league semis (haha!) facup semis etc.
Golden Balls Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 But were we flying high and averaging over 2,000 at away games? We were in the premier league and it was the 1st and 2nd time we had played them there for a generation. Still didn't struggle and I don't believe anyone else who really wants to go will either. Apart from fans who don't live locally, who PC Burrows seemingly has no regard for, who can't have coach passes posted out to them. I've supported saints all over the country but thanks to him I can't go. It is an absolute disgrace.

It's still an ill thought out idea though.

It would mean spending 60 quid on diesel and a 6 hour round trip just to pick up a bloody bus ticket. Or go to the Blackpool game which is a 120 quid day out (fuel, ticket, extras). All just before Christmas. The police/club have been utterly callous in this and are punishing everyone because of the actions of a minority. And for what? Posting out a bloody bus ticket is hardly a problem. I really think Burrows won't be happy until nobody bothers going.
dune Posted 23 November, 2011 Share Posted 23 November, 2011 Just to give an update. The club have told me that not posting out tickets is a police decision. Does anyone know why PC burrows has insisted on this? I can think of no common sense reason for it.

At which point he will say, "no trouble lad...Is that clear?" you won't get the tickets until you say, "yes sir". It is all part of the big society, taking Britain back from the yobs and letting them know who is boss.
