Chamberlain indebted to Saints..

Fair play to the lad. It sounds very sincere and good to hear someone that has moved on further endorse the team spirit and fact that new people are generally welcomed into the group which must help any transition required. That must be down to the way NA and the staff treat people from the minute they come into the club and bodes well for the future.

One side of me feels glad to have read that he still feels fondness for us, the other side is glad he's had some lessons from the PR department at the emirates Stadium.

Do you really think that the Arsenal PR department know about or are bothered to react to the few on here getting ancy about the young lad kissing the badge after scoring his first goal for Arsenal.

I think it's very genuine. The lad could have just not said anything, in fairness. Worse, he could have "done a Kevin Phillips".

I don't blame him for leaving, and I certainly don't blame Mr Cortese for selling him either. Every lad growing up now who loves football dreams of playing in the Premier League, and AOC is now different. I must admit, I didn't like the way AOC went to the national press saying he wanted to leave, but I expect that wasn't necessarily his idea......

Whenever he comes back to St Marys (hopefully next season when we go up....), I hope he gets a warm welcome.

It's easy for him to say that now he's maneuvered a move through the press. I don't really care for him or his skate dad but he'll get no applause from me, and if he thinks he can come back to st marys with arsenal and have a friendly farewell he is wrong.

If its greed he must be a Tory, in reality he is talented player who waned to play at the highets level.

dune keeps posting this stuff without ever seeing the irony () but at least he's not one of the childish morons who'd be happy to see AOC break a leg.

I've got no time for his father either, but Alex has only just turned eighteen FFS. Good luck to him.

I can just see it, you getting all wound up and red in the face, going "Booooooooooooooooooo!" to an 18 year old footballer who had the temerity to leave us for pastures new.

Jesus.

If he'd gone about it the right way then I'd have no problem, but he acted a c*nt throughout the whole thing.

What exactly is the right way?

Is he supposed to stamp his feet and say "Nooooooooooo, Daddy, I don't want to go to Arsenal. Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaase Daddy, don't make me go"?

Didn't he have a private medical at Arsenal last season? Or were those words from the people who supposedly attended the fan dinner with Cortese false?

If the private medical is true then it shows little respect to the players, the management, the chairman and the fans at this club, he'd deserve all the abuse he gets if he played against us in the next few years or so.

I don't give a rat's arse about what's supposed to have happened because if it happened it was something his father organized.

Booing and abusing an eighteen year-old on his return to this Club does indeed make someone look like a complete idiot, and that someone is not Alex.

Unfortunately, all Saints fans get tarred with that moron's brush.

While we're all rejoicing at the class shown by our team, we could at least think about showing some ourselves.

very true, having a medical before we have agreed a fee or even given permission to speak to the player is bull. I put it more down to wenger's relentless tapping up and his dad's obvious desire to see him leave rather than to oxo. He's 18 and at the moment is earning more per week than i ever will in my life. At that age temptation like that is almost irresistable. The media don't bloody help either glorifying the wag culture, young players must find it bloody hard to resist while being influenced from a million different sides. against us in the next few years or so. very true, having a medical before we have agreed a fee or even given permission to speak to the player is bull. That's not just parts taken from the Arsenal website. The whole article is about how much he owes us

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/oxlade-chamberlain-i-owe-saints-everything

Nice to see. Shame he went running to the national press when he was still with us. That alone means he'll get booed by sections of the fans. I'll give him a warm welcome back as he is good for the status of our acadamy. His dad however can ***** right off

So tell me why exactly we shouldn't boo him? People feel let down that he showed absolutely no loyalty to the club. Why shouldn't he get the same treatment as any other opposition player? Get over yourself it's football not a matter of life and death. Poor little alex will be ok if he gets booed - I'm sure a few million will soon dry his tears.

I can't be bothered to dig it out but it strikes me as an exact replication of what Wayne Bridge said when he left - especially the bit about " I hope to be able to play there again one day and show my appreciation" like its some sort of honour to have him back. Fair play to the lad - he did well for us and deserves a chance at Arsenal and I wish him well. But we've moved on and he is a miniscule part of our history soon to be forgotten.

I think you'll find many others have similar views on the subject.

Yeah, and they need to grow up as well. He's eighteen FFS and he left us just as 99.9% of this forum would if they had his ability and the same opportunity - not to mention the same father.

Abusing him is not only classless - it makes all of us look stupid.

Abuse a teenager and boo him (lol) becuase he was good enough to be sold for a massive amount of money and get a wage that'll sort him out for life, whilst increasing his chances for international football by playing at the highest level.

Yep, he is a c**t etc.

I don't think you understand football at all do you? It has nothing to do with him being able to command a wedge from arsenal. And it has nothing to do with " abusing a teenager" Why the **** do you even bring that up? He is an opposition player who used to play for saints. By definition he will therefore come in for some stick. Go to any football ground in the country and see if this doesn't happen. If you don't like it go and get excited over rugby where everyone apparently respects each other.

Of course it happens, and it comes from the same kind of childish people who will do it here.

It's far from irrelevant that AOC is a teenager - that just makes those who boo him look even more immature than they already are.

Do you seriously think that the average person seeing that on television will see the club in a better light?

If it was that black and white, why doesn't every ex-Saint get booed? No doubt Andrew Surman will get a good reception if/when he plays us again (and rightly so). I imagine Bale and Theo will avoid the booooooo! boys too.

No doubt you'll tell me that it's the manner of his departure that particularly irked. In that case, why is Wayne Bridge still treated as a complete hero? He courted the big clubs throughout his last season with us and then, in a desperate effort to leave, put in a transfer request. Yet that doesn't seem to have bothered many (rightly so IMO, but there you go).

That's my point; it isn't black and white - some will boo all those players, some will boo some of them, some will welcome them all back as heroes. It's football - an emotional game - get over it.

Blackburn at home, circa 94 loudest song of the day "3 greedy bastards, there's only 3 greedy bastards" and abuse aimed at flowers, kenna and shearer, but especially shearer.

I couldn't care less about Bale or walcott they were here for such a short time, certainly wouldnt clap them and get no pleasure from seeing them do well now.

Oh don't worry, I'm over it. I just feel embarrassed for the people who make a conscious effort to go boooooooooooooo! It's almost like watching a badly acted pantomime.

You forget that we didn't have to sell. The lad got a good deal, we got a good deal so surely everyone is happy. Not once did he come out and say he wouldnt play for us if we said we wouldnt sell. At the end of the day football is the lad's job and he was offered a significantly better job whether we like it or not. Personally if someone working for me that was good moved on for mega money and furthered their career then I say fair play and move on to replace him / her. That is exactly what NA has tried to do and is doing a rather good job of it. If our fans are not grown up enough to see that ANYONE in AOC's shoes would have done the same then our fanbase is more naive than I thought.

Personally I think you are just being an Internet warrior. Booing players who used to play for your club has happened since football was invented. It has Nothing to do with him being a teenager. (Note - must not boo teenagers when I go to football matches - CanadaSaint says it makes me look immature). Stick to Ice Hockey mate.

I thought this was a discussion - you know, the thing people have on internet forums. Your silly little "stick to ice hockey" slur indicates that you can't deal with that, which just goes to show that maturity is a problem for you. Point proved.

Erm no not by definition at all. Unless you imagine that Surman will get a load of stick the next time we play Norwich.
