Hammond Signs New Contract.

I really like the way we do this, it makes so much sense.

By having our players tied to contracts, even if we deem them perhaps not quite good enough for the Prem, their value is worth so much more in the transfer market.

I'm not saying Hammond would be one of those who we would ship out if we go up, but if we wanted to, the club is in a much better place to get maximum value than if he's in his last year.

Last season, I was always the first on Hammond's back and I really didn't rate him, but he's been great this season, and this is just what he deserves.

Great work Deano.

My thoughts entirely. I was always hoping for a Chaplow-Schneiderlin announcement before match last season but now whenever Hamster is in there I know he will do his job more then effectively. He really has stepped up in the last 9 months and fully, fully deserves the new contract.

Agree with the others that Dean Hammond has really played well this season. NA indicates that he works very hard in training which just goes to show, if you push yourself in this game , it brings rewards. It is great that we do not have any lazy bast..ds in the squad now.

This cannot be true! Some on here, and I use Hypo as an example, claim that players and agents find it difficult to negotiate with NC, hence the fact, we made no significant signings this summer (apart from all the re-negotiated contracts, and the likes of Cork DeRidder etc)

Of course you use me as an example. You are weirdly obsessed. Fwiw I never said anything of the kind.

he was also superb after his return from injury towards the end of last season.

He wasn't fully fit at the start of last season and the whole team suffered because he is such an influential figure. Like all the best central midfielders, everything about the team works when he is on song and you don't notice him, if he's missing/struggling then the whole team is out of kilter and nobody can work out why. I know Pardew signed him, but he is very much an Adkins type of player. He is an excellent player with seemingly an excellent and infectious attitude and signing him up again is great news.

He was! I did think that maybe the Championship might have been a step too far for him but he has certainly stepped it up a notch and the fact that he is keeping Spiderman and Chappers out of the starting line-up speaks volumes! Well deserved.

Yep, turning point for me. I was in the 'disappointed with him' camp up until then. Been top class ever since.

"Na, na, na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, Deanooooooo"...good chant, hasn't been heard around SMS since Theo.

Anyway good news, he has really stepped up this year and is probably our most improved player so far. Had my doubts but he is proving a lot of people wrong and fair play to him.

Agree - most improved players so far- in order: Hammond, Richardson, Lallana, Guly, Lambert.
