St Marco Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Anyone else think it really is a **** league these days? Just watching the Madrid vs Levante game and they are all rolling on the floor like they been round housed by Chuck Norris or something..... People can say whatever they want about English football but the diving/play acting/trying to get each other sent of/pretend fighting etc really is awful to watch. How can you play football with all that going on?? You got to feel sorry for the refs. Anyone gets slightly tapped on the ankles and they fly over like they were run over by a truck. What a bunch of pussies.
JackFrost Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Any game that involves Real Madrid these days tends to have a lot of play acting and diving I saw Barcelona demolish Osasuna 8-0 the other day and it was unbelievable. It was confirmed that Fabregas is definitely on the list of players that Messi has a telepathic understanding with. There is more play acting than the PL but there usually isn't that much
St Marco Posted 18 September, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Don't get me wrong when Barca or Madrid actually play football it can be really amazing! Barcelona are the best footballing side on the planet. But it is the attitude in Spanish football right now. To try and make a meal out of everything. Don't just accept the free-kick, try and get the man sent off. I remember reading an article about the demise of English tackling has a lot to do with how they play in Spain. They don't like being tackled. Ronaldo is perfect for that because if you remember everytime he was tackled in the PL he would throw his arms up and look at the ref like he had just been mugged! The game is physical and tackling should be encouraged. The Spanish people themselves hate it too. I remember when i was there in the summer and had a chat with a Madrid fan who said it was all Jose's fault. I don't remember him being like that here, he didn't run up to his opponent and stick his finger in the managers eye! It makes the games kinda pointless when a player is sent off so often. The league is set up to help Madrid and Barca. I didn't realise until the other day that the Spanish FA give those two the most money from the tv deals. That is what the stikes were about. They both get 140m euros. Where as Atletico (who finished 3rd) got 42m euros. And the newly promoted Granada get just 12m euros...hardly competative when the top team gets x 14 cash from the FA then what the bottom team get. In PL at least everyone gets a equal share of the cash pretty much.
Saintandy666 Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 The premiership is better, much more competitive and there is a minimum standard that is better than La Liga. Can you imagine any team in the premiership not being able to find a sponsor?!
stkev7 Posted 19 September, 2011 Share Posted 19 September, 2011 La Liga is a much warmer version of the Scottish Premier League. Ok, maybe Atletico Madrid would spank Hearts or Motherwell but you get what I mean.

In PL at least everyone gets a equal share of the cash pretty much. It's not the Spanish FA, all of the clubs in Spain negotiate their own TV deals and as the media there is all obsessed with Barca or Real they get the lion's share of the cash as you describe. In the UK we have collective bargaining so the spread of Sky cash in the Prem is fairer (still not completely equal because the difference in money you get per league position is about £1M so Man U get about £20M more than the bottom club), but much closer than in Spain. This deal will kill the Spanish league sooner or later as Real and Barca steamroller everone else because of their buying power and the public get bored of the one sided games and of waiting for the only competitive matches between the two to happen each year. There was a good article about it in the Guardian last week.
St Marco Posted 2 February, 2013 Author Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Just watched little Granada beat Real Madrid. This year La Liga is a lot worse then last years. PL is light years ahead. It would be great to see how Barca would do in a league like the PL where all the money is shared equally rather then how it is in Spain where Barca and Madrid get about 95% of it between them. Might put a bet on Man Utd winning 4-0 against Madrid in the cl.

JackFrost Posted 3 February, 2013 Share Posted 3 February, 2013 Would also like to see how many Messi scores in the prem...... Sure hewould do well but he wouldnt get 4 in each game like he does in La Liga Very hard to say but the best indicator is the old Ronaldo comparison. Since the beginning of the 09-10 La Liga season when Ronaldo went to Real, Ronaldo has played 122, scored 133, with 33 assists. Messi has played 126, scored 148, with 51 assists For their respective countries Messi has 31 in 76, where Ronaldo has 37 in 100. It's impossible to predict but if Messi played in the Man U team he'd probably reproduce Ronaldo's 07-08 form and a bit more each season IMO so around a goal a game plus numerous assists. Obviously there are plenty of other factors but until he plays in the PL it's impossible to say.
