St Marco Posted 18 September, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Not yet Why not? He has played about 140 games, 30 odd goals, god knows how many assists. When he was out of the team last year we looked a far worse off team. Huge player for this club, our best player since Matty imo.

Do not disagree about him being best player since Matty BUT there are lots who have played more than 140 games who are not legends. Legendary status is 15 years plus in first team imo only 4 saints legends Ted Bates Terry Paind Mick Channon Le Tiss

RobM Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Lallana has done more to earn his place there than Lambert has, however much I love Lambert (love, in a football supporters kinda way...). Lambert has more goals, but I'd bet a lot less if it weren't for Lallana. I'd vote to have both, but if we're arguing about merit, I think we've got it wrong. Nice problem to have, this must be how Adkins feels...

For example Rickies goals. How many of them have been assists from Lallana? For basically the last three years Lallana has been our most influential player. He is the player who sparks the team into life with his skills. If any of our players get injured he is the one we would miss the most. He is so important to the way the side plays. Rarely does he have a **** game. In my opinion being a Saints legend is not about how many goals you scored.

In my opinion being a Saints legend is not about how many goals you scored. All too soon. Lallana hasn't really achieved anything yet. His major contribution has been assisting us to promotion from the third tier of English football which is really nothing special in the grand scheme of things. Taking us to the Premier League will position the boy as a bit of a Saints legend, but he would still have to play a season for us in the Prem, and play well, to be assured of true Saints legend status. If we're talking about "Legends" then that does not include players that are simply currently very good. Being "the best player since Le Tissier" is not enough to be a true Legend. Saints are a top level team, and our legends need to reflect that.

St Marco Posted 18 September, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 September, 2011 i never mentioned goals scored people like Nick Holmes and David Armstrong played more games than Lallana, at the top level, but imo they are not legends To be fair there are loads of players who through the years have played hundreds of games for us. You could argue the case for so many people. But for me Lallana is different from those guys. He is a guy who stuck with the club when it was falling into the abyss. Would those guys have stayed at the club if it had fallen two divisions, gone into admin? Hard to say. In modern football where loyalty is non excistent not many would do that at all. Surman was adored here and he left. So many other players through the years have left us when they either wanted to progress or because things were not going so well. Lallana didn't leave. He could easily be playing in the PL now if he wanted to. The guy showed huge loyalty to the club and week in week out he gives 110%. Without Lallana we would not of got back into the Championship and i doubt we would be sitting 1st in that league (he already has 6 assist this year). In years to come if we do finally get back to the PL people will remember what Lallana did to elevate the club from a team with -10 in division three into a PL side. In my view starting at the top and staying there is not the same as staying with a club that implodes to the point where your not even getting paid on time. Dropping down the leagues, seeing your friends leave etc. It is a different time, different rules to judge players on.

SNSUN Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 If we get back to the Premiership this season or next, I don't envisage a reason why Lallana would ever leave the club. His loyalty and talent could see us utter his name in the same breath as Le God. Still the future is unwritten, and with so much money in the game, it's very hard to keep someone if your club isn't successful. Let's just hope the good times for us just keep on coming. As for the forum banner, yes please.
