Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Like what the ****. I was all ready for a poor to average start to the season (considering who we had to play), and well, we're awesome. Just awesome. I just wanted to let people know just in case they didn't already. hypochondriac Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 It's unbelievable, like a dream. I'm just waiting for us to fall away after the amazing start. If we can keep this up for the rest of the season well it would just be one of the greatest achievements in the history of the club.
Ohio Saint Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I don't see the team spirit dying out anytime soon. This is why I think we can finish in an auto spot come the end of the season.

The Kraken Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 It's an awesome start so far. Still keeping my feet on the ground though, Leeds are the only team we've beaten in the top half of the table. There will be much tougher tests than we've seen so far; full credit to NA and the team though, the goals scored is quite incredible (especially given that we only have 2 fit strikers). Mouldy Coat Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 The way we have been keeping possession and always looking to play the ball from the back, keeper rolling ball out etc, i have to pinch myself and wonder if I am dreaming. Fantastic football
st.sj Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Amazing start. A total bonus. I would have taken 7 points after first seven games, so couldnt be happier. Think next 2 games will be tough. Will need to use the squad, if we can beat Burnley I will be in heaven.
sperm_john Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I think 4 points from the next two games would be good, a win at burnley and a draw on the wednesday night at cardiff ...two wins really would be 7 heaven...!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Have to agree with the OP - this start has by far exceeded my expectations. The thing is, we're looking just so good as a team. Even the defence seems to be getting better now - a couple or three more games and every team in this division is going to find it hard living with us. I really think we have a good chance of getting to the final 4 of the Carling Cup too because of our depth of squad. It's an incredible time to be a Saints supporter and there's so much more to come too.

Dr Who? Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I have NEVER been this confident in a Saints team, and once we went 1 up today I really did think that would be it. I did think this game today was going to be the biggest test yet, and that Brum would be very hard to breakdown, but as it was it was a walk in the park. Before the game, because of the name Birmingham I was thinking draw. Long may this continue, but as it is and in Saints fans nature, we expect the worse and the wheels to fall off any time soon!! doddisalegend Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I keep waiting for us to fall down the championship is suppossed to be tough. I can't work out if we're better than I thought we were or if championship teams are just crapper then I thought they would be. It was hard to believe today that we were the team from division 1 last season and Birmingham were in the PL last season and won the carling cup. It was hard to believe today that we were the team from division 1 last season and Birmingham were in the PL last season and won the carling cup. I think a few of our fans didn't have massive confidence in our team stepping up a level, but if you look at the players we have in the side....Lallana, Connolly, Guly etc...they all thrive with time and space on the ball and we get more of that at this level, simply because teams come to st Mary to attack us - not to sit back and park a bus in front of the goal. I think what we're seeing is our true quality, rather than fluky results.

beatlesaint Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I think what we're seeing is our true quality, rather than fluky results. Absolutely. We have won 6 league matches out of 7 and we have won them in different ways, from the demolition of Ipswich to the grinding out a 1-0 against Millwall to a closing out a game against Forest to name but 3. Flukes dont happen like that. We ARE good, seriously good :-)

ant Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 All of the people that said our players would flourish in the Championship were spot on it seems. Personally I had faith that we could hold our own but never dared imagine that we'd be winning so many games or battling this well towards earning those three points. Yes, you can say we've not faced our biggest tests of the season yet and we'll do well to stay grounded, yet still I feel like I'm walking around on a cloud when I think about Saints at the moment. There's been so many moments in just seven games that put a big, dumb grin on my face as I recall them. All I can say is "when is the dream going to end?!" Maybe it'll be soon, maybe this is par for the season; either way for now let's revel in our team's incredible spirit, desire and mentality. dubai_phil Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Something very strange is happening. Some people saw what NA was trying to do last season, some moaned. However what very few of us (me included) did NOT do was to believe. Maybe after a few beers we hoped but no, we didn't believe. We went on a run that few of us could remember bettering, but still none of us really believed. We went through the summer, deep down we all expected AOC to leave and hoped none of the rest of the squad would leave, we hoped we would find the players that fitted into the Team, but we didn't believe. Now, here we are, breaking records and (in my case just from commentary) playing football of a style and effect that we haven't seen (or heard) in decades. Now, finally, we may just be starting to believe. What we all seemed to forget is that NA and to an extent NC have been telling us this for months. The fans are now starting to believe. Thank GOD the TEAM began to believe last season during the MKD game. We are Saints fans, we cannot believe we should believe, that makes this strange weird roller coaster we seem to be on all the more amazing. Everyone needs something to believe in. I believe I'll have another beer.

The Kraken Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 I think we have to be sensible about our first bad run. It'll happen, and the key is to raise the support, get it over with and start winning again as soon as possible. What won't help is overreacting, saying we need countless new players, new tactics, players aren't good enough etc. They've proved they're good enough, it was fairly obvious last season and the year before too. But it's a long old season and any team will lose quite a lot. I'm sure we'd all have been delighted with 6th so let's not put too much pressure on. I have no doubt we're good enough to go up, but there's a huge amount of consistency and luck needed. As if that's going to stop the usual bedwetters throwing their toys out of the pram and claiming our season is in freefall when we fail to win a couple of games in a row
The Kraken Posted 18 September, 2011 Share Posted 18 September, 2011 Do you think they actually do wet the bed when we lose? Hmmm, an interesting question. I'm going to suggest that it might have happened before, yes. I can offer no categorical evidence to back up my claim though.

You see I'm getting to the stage were I wonder if that will happen (lose the odd game sure, bad run not so sure). We've played a fair few teams some tipped to be top sides and they've all been really quite ordinary. With our home form (fortress SMS) I can't see us going on a bad run I can see losing away from home from time to time.
West End Saint Posted 19 September, 2011 Share Posted 19 September, 2011 Enjoy the ride everything at the club is right we have owners with a plan & ambition we have a youngish manager with lots to prove a very good side with talent & desire & fantastic team spirit everyone is pulling in the same direction it has been a long long time since we last had everything like this. People have said we havent played the top 6 but we have played some big teams that were predicted to do well Leeds Ipswich Forest & Brum & beat them all no doubt there are very tough games ahead & no doubt we will have a wobble or 2 but who cares we have a really good side playing great football that is a joy to watch our club is sound and moving forward it feels good to be a Saint
