St Chalet Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 (edited) Amazing result for both the Saints and the server. Sounds like a really solid win and good to see lots of different scorers again. Edited 18 September, 2011 by St Chalet
hypochondriac Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Absolutely amazing start to our season. Almost lost for words!
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Would you believe it 13 consecutive home wins 4 goals and top of the league
CanadaSaint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 One of my biggest questions was answered today: Can we play our style against a strong, physical team on a wet pitch?
stockbridge_saint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 god we're good Has everyone else noticed how we really go for it 100% in the first half? we've had most of the games this season wrapped up by half time...
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT read it and weep BRIGHTON!!!! lol UP THE SAINTS! GET IN!!
alpine_saint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Superb. We've scored 4 more goals than any other team too. In 7 games thats pretty impressive. Very impressed with NAs sense of subtitution.
saint_jas Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Fantastic start to the season. 19 goals in 7 games from all over the place as well. But KD definitely deserves a mention for the save that kept it 0-0. Still can't believe how well we are playing
edprice1984 Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 The question that needs to be asked of the rest of the league...Can you keep up?
pedg Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 and that pompey is how you win a game without a single booking...
Micky Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 One of my biggest questions was answered today: Can we play our style against a strong, physical team on a wet pitch? And what did you conclude. Listened to the Brum commentators - they said that Brum were pants in the first half and much stronger in the second half, a half we only managed to draw with them. That said - towards the end of the game, they basically said that this was the game that they can benchmark their own team from - I wonder what they think of the blues now. From what I heard - sounded like a very, very good performance from the lads - well happy tonight.
martel Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Would you believe it 13 consecutive home wins 4 goals and top of the league Not in my dreams, but we have, just seem to keep on breaking records, I had a bad feeling about this game before the start and thought it may be a home draw; so to win so well and go top has now gone beyond all my dreams.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Top and already 2 points clear of 3rd and 6 points clear of 7th! and only 7 games in
positivepete Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Well worth staying up for in oz. Off to bed now having seen the updated table. Back for next home game I hope
Ohio Saint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 One of my biggest questions was answered today: Can we play our style against a strong, physical team on a wet pitch? Me too. I was already doubtful about this match, but when I heard how hard it was raining I thought it would be a disaster. I'm absolutely elated!!!
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Only Man U have scored more goals than us in the top 2 divisions! SUPER! SUPER! SAINTS :)

From what I heard - sounded like a very, very good performance from the lads - well happy tonight. Thanks for the follow up on the Brum feed, Micky. I'm more the positive kind () and I was nervous about today because I thought we could be physically dominated - especially if it was wet, which it certainly was. It really sounded like we were able to play "our game" but I'll wait to hear from some folks who were there. We still need to tighten up at the back, though, but some of that might be as much a defensive-midfield issue.
Cabrone Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Amazing and we got those points playing Leeds, Barnsley, Ipswich, Millwall, Leicester, Forest and Birmingham - hardly mug teams & all of which (with the exception of Barnsley and poss Millwall) would have fancied their chances of top 6 at the start of the season. Deffo the best start we've had in my lifetime and fingers crossed we can keep the momentum going.
pap Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Love it. Four different scorers, once again demonstrating the attacking options we have at our disposal. Glad to see Rickie get another goal, even if it was a pen. They all count toward the golden boot. Very odd being a Saints FC fan right now. As a nipper, I expected us to battle bravely against relegation, to use a Football Manager "start of season expectations" example. The relegations were not fun at all, but the resurgence up the leagues has been nothing short of remarkable. This team, and the way it plays, is bloody awesome. A lot of credit has to go to Nige for the way he likes his teams to play, and the performances he is getting out of his players. Long may it continue.
CalneSaint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 (edited) Outstanding result against a relegated prem side......COYR It will be interesting to hear how the back 4 faired this week Edited 18 September, 2011 by CalneSaint
gaz Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 On the bus, out the door, top of the league, up we go!
Ewell Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Great result. Can't wait for the next game!
Saint Luke Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 I too had a bad feeling about today and had us down for a 2-1 defeat on the prediction league. Then i watched some of Brum on Thursday and heard all the comments about how hard they had tried. Changed my score to 4-2 win - only score know one else had gone for. Was glad they did not get the 2nd.
Dalek2003 Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 We mustn't get carried away. Nevertheless a good start to the season.
Professor Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 We've beaten Birmingham but they are only 14th in the table and we are top, so was it no more than to be expected? We have only played one team from the top 10 which was the defeat at Leicester. The clubs we have beaten are Leeds (11th); Birmingham (14th); Millwall (15th); Barnsley (16th); Ipswich (19th); and Notts Forest (22nd). Should we be worried?

trousers Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Sat on a plane at Bergen Airport. Just heard the score. Chuffed as nine pence.

No need to be worried, we can only play the teams in front of us. Seven games in, I think we can talk about "form" and we are in excellent form !
Bairdylegend Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Absolutely brilliant start -beyond my wildest dreams. The boy wee Adam is a touch of genius, hes improved 20% on last season and looks a class apart in this league. Delighted for Lambert, hes a proper pro and done huge things for this club. Jack Cork is class - the signing of the season in this league. Adkins hasnt spent the big money like Sven, he hasnt needed to , clever buys of class players - brilliant manager. Now lets get on the road and give Burnley a slap!
Nexstar Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Got the home form sorted, now need to maintain the away.
Mark Mywords Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 You would have thought that the OS would have updated the league table by now, but at 5.35 thay still haven't.
doggface Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Love it, maybe some of the bompey fans will go and watch Southampton in this form!
Made in Southampton Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 I'm bored with this winning lark. Where's the fun?

Ho ho ho, your subtle use of irony made me laugh. I'll laugh even more when we stick four past Brighton.Who is coping best at this level, Rickie or CMS?
saintds Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Great result, great performance, other than the first 5 minutes we never looked like losing this. Really impressed with the strength of our bench too, to be able to bring on players of that quality speaks volumes. Not sure about Danny Fox yet, who's signing still confuses me somewhat - could Dickson not have done as good, if not better? Maybe he'll finally get a game seeing the fixture congestion over the next couple of weeks. SDR looked class and expect him to start and do well against Preston. Onwards and upwards.
Scarface Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Amazing result. Great start but....... Let's not carried away the scoreline flattered us today
Dark Munster Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 We mustn't get carried away. Nevertheless a good start to the season. Hopefully we'll have 17th place locked up by Christmas.
Toomer Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Very happy with that, Kelvin was outstsanding today and I thought Hoover had a steady game.
Saint Charlie Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Brilliant start. Today Connolly and Lallana back to their best. Richardson also had a very strong game and Davis crucial saves. A couple of points on the season so far: Hammond has upped his game massively - fair play to the guy, a worthy captain. We seem to be well disciplined. Chaplow at Barnsely apart I can't recall any bad tackles really from us this season, the team stay calm even when provoked. Just think we are a striker light. Would be nice to give Connolly and Lambert a complete rest on Weds but we probably will play one of them. Would also be nice if we could take of Lambert on 75 or 80 mins in these type games where we are comfortbale. Steve de Ridder looks classy each time he comes on, just a bit over eager at times. Hopefully he will get a start on Weds, I think he will have a big impact at some point soon. Not sure on Hooiveld, didn't look dominant in the air or on the ground. For someone of that size he seems to lack a bit of aggression. Nice enough on the ball though, thats probably all that keeps him ahead of Martin (plus being left footed).
