Love or Hate?

I like him, he is a proper character and not afraid to speak him mind rather than the sanitised, boring stuff most come out with. He is actually quite right with a lot of what he says and quite funny with it. I am sure i am in the minority on here though.

Sums it up perfectly.

I would also add he is a very good player and has been quite under rated. I would love it when Saints get promoted if we could sign him.

Not at £80k per week!

Hes on about half that.

He was great yesterday and was a great signing on a free and like Adel Taarabt, always makes the games entertaining but fans of the opposition will usually hate them.

Event he wolves fans were saying he was right to signal 3-0 at the end after the abuse he got from the crowd

Good enough player, not afraid to say what he feels which is a good change from the usual drones from footballers. Just don't like this hard man image he thinks he is, he isnt at all - someone like Vinny Jones would of had him for breakfast. Making bad and nasty challenges doesnt give you the 'hard midfielder' tag or otherwise you would class Scholes in the same boat.

He's smarter than his tweets and his A-Z of Nietzsche quotes suggest - q.like him, though he's fast becoming a parody and pantomime figure.

Still would prefer a team of 11 Nemanja Vidics, ruthless and totally committed players but who do not make a song and dance about things.

He needs to calm down a bit though. At the end of every game (or mid-way through!) he seems to be arguing with someone. No doubt a lot of the time this is down to the oppo winding him up, but one day I can just see him losing it and getting a lifetime ban or something similar.

I do however respect him a lot for the way he has come back. I'm sure he appreciates how lucky he is to still be playing professional football; his record would certainly have gone against him in any other profession. But the fact he is a good player means people want to have him in their team. Maybe not chairmen though....

Vinnie Jones was a mincer too. Jimmy Case was a proper hard man - dished it out but, when he got it back, he didn't complain, got up and got on with it. I remember Jones giving it the big I am at the Dell in the early 90's, until Jimmy stuck a heavy, fair, challenge on him and he was rolling around like a girl. When he eventually got a chance of revenge, Jimmy just got up, shook his hand and got on with it.

Barton is a very good payer, but does roll around too much to be considered in any way a hard man - if he went down like that in a pub he'd be laughed out of town.

A decent enough player whose career and potential have been blighted by a bad temperament and attitude. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the team personally.

Agreed.

Barton is an arsehole.Anyone stubbing a cigar in the eye of someone else should be banged up.

I think he's great, he's appears to be very intelligent and articulate and what he usually has to say about other footballers (for example the amount who release bios at the age of about 21) is absolutely correct. You know that once his career is over his own book will certainly be worth a read. Plus his 50's style haircut is damn cool.
