NickG Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 If he carries on like this, can't see him or team being able to take the pressure. Sounded like had lost it on Solent.
Thedelldays Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 on this form...not a hope in hell their fans are turning on him big time
Matthew Le God Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Sounded like had lost it on Solent. For those that haven't heard it... http://audioboo.fm/boos/474263-steve-cotterill-speaks-to-bbc-radio-solent-following-pompey-s-1-0-defeat-to-hull-city
saintmatt Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 on this form...not a hope in hell their fans are turning on him big time Are they? I thought on the whole they still backed him, performances on the whole haven't been that bad and he's put a fairly decent squad together imo
Thedelldays Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Are they? I thought on the whole they still backed him, performances on the whole haven't been that bad and he's put a fairly decent squad together imo where on earth did you get that impression...?
View From The Top Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Are they? I thought on the whole they still backed him, performances on the whole haven't been that bad and he's put a fairly decent squad together imo checkout #pompey on twitter to find out! My skate mates despair of him.
saints_is_the_south Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Skate mate at work also wants him gone.
OVER THE HILL Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 FFS hang in there Steve, you're doing a great job !!!
beatlesaint Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Its not his fault, he has a bare bones squad, he has injuries, refs are out to get them, they have no luck, the youngsters he plays have no experience, their discipline is good its just that refs dont realise it when they brandish their red cards without hesitation blah blah blah... It must all be true, he tells me on Solent every other bloody week while I am driving home from St Marys !
Graffito Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 He blames the players, blames the ref, turns on the interviewer and still manages to link himself with Kenny Dalglish. He comes across as a loser. Contrast with Adkins' positivity.
Thedelldays Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 im sure us just being promoted and being top of the league compounds their frustrations
DS Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 I might go and stick a tenner on 'Arry returning to his spiritual home. Triffic.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 I think we should all go on their forums and offer Steve our support. We don't have to say we're Saints fans...
Avenue Saint Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 I think we should all go on their forums and offer Steve our support. We don't have to say we're Saints fans... I like this idea. No doubt some of the ****ers are already on here trying to mix it up under cover!
OVER THE HILL Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Dave Jones has been mentioned a few times, surely they can't have forgotten he was our manager once ?
Roger Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 For me cotterill is a complete loser. So many excuses which is the first sign of a loser. I feel very sorry for the guy who has to interview him. He is very rude to someone asking perfect fine questions. Adkins is a different class of human being.
St Marco Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 He comes across as a bit of a cry baby in his interviews. Like in that interview when he is asked about Hull's keeper not having much to do and if he would of liked to have seen Pompey test him a bit more. I think that was a pretty valid question. He then says basically what did their own keeper have to do and the interviewer then lists a couple of saves he made. Steve then replies whats your point thrn? Which the interviewer then again says the point is would you liked to have seen your side test their keeper a bit more. Which Steve huffs and says silly question or something like that. If i was the interviewer i'd have pointed out to him that his team had no shots on goal and had only 5 shots the entire game compared to Hull's 17 (7 on target). It was a fair question. If he only wants to be asked nice questions that make him look good then what is the point of speeking to the media after you lose? As someone mentioned above he is the total opposite of Adkins. Don't blame the Pompey fans if they are tired of him.

Yeah, havent heard this weeks episode but last week was a classic exchange - Int - do you think there is a discipline problem Steve ? Cot - What ? Have we had more bookings than anyone else then ? Int - Yes you have. Cot - Well that can happen..... ***** !
Sheaf Saint Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 And to think, not all that long ago there were a few on here touting him as a possible during one of our numerous searches for a new manager over the last few years. Sheeesh - how glad am I that didn't happen! He comes across as very negative with a complete inability to recognise his own short-comings.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 This one made me chuckle for ages!!! lol On paper, #Pompey's starting 11 is as good as any other team in the Championship, poor tactics & disipline is what needs addressing.
S-Clarke Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Not sure what the idiots expect. They're lucky to be in existence, being competitive in this league is a pipe dream for them.
pedg Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 For those that haven't heard it... http://audioboo.fm/boos/474263-steve-cotterill-speaks-to-bbc-radio-solent-following-pompey-s-1-0-defeat-to-hull-city for sure, you know, you know, for sure. Because we were even more atrocious in first half I can claim the second half as being better.
Huffton Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 So whats the real story with Kitson? That answer was clearly made up on the spot.

No one managing pompey is going to have much positivity I reckon................... Cotterill does come across as a cock though
pedg Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 So whats the real story with Kitson? That answer was clearly made up on the spot. Do you get ginger rats?
Jesus Reigned Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Cotterill's currently neck and neck with Poyet in the manager I hate the most stakes. His interview on The Football League show after the West Ham match was embarrassing; Lawrence's first yellow was for an appalling challenge that should have earned a straight red, and he tried to argue it wasn't even deserving of a yellow.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 sounded like he hurt his ribs, a very very painfull a rib injury. wish him well and hope it does hurt him to much sitting on his arse.
Dark Munster Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 He's doing a great job. Had a quick look at their most recent results: blimey, 1 win in the last 15 competitive matches! At this rate we'll have to give Stevie-boy the keys to Southampton in recognition of sterling service. You have to hand it to Chinny. He may have wasted a fortune last season in a futile effort to go up, but at least he was able to hand the parcel full of shit over to another sucker just in time. Unfortunately for Stevie-boy that the sucker could well be an expert in cement boots. No wonder each week Stevie-boy sounds more and more deranged on Solent.
Crazy Diamond Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 He did pretty damn well last season, for his sake I hope that counts for something this season. He is getting a bit desperate though, he defended his team last week and their disciplinary 'problem', yet a Hammers supporting friend of mine was at the game and said his team were a bunch of animals. He always manages to turn against the interviewer too. He will always find something. He's an awfully bitter chap.
Badger Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Cotterill was highly regarded 10 years ago when he left Cheltenham. As things stand I fully expect him to realise his full potential and gravitate to his correct level.Either Bournemouth or back at Cheltenham. His interviews - almost a excuse-a-thon- are entertaining, and confirms him as a knob.

According to Cotterrill there is no disciplinary problem, they are just unfortunate with referees, week after week. Interesting point about the interviewer and blaming every bastard bar himself. Reminded me of a comment about SC from his time at Burnley that towards the end he had a bit of a strained relationship with the local press and also had a gripe about the supporters not doing their bit and turning up or supporting the team...
pedg Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Rumour has it that given pompeys sterling efforts this year that for the rest of the season ref's will replace red cards with blue cards...

He had a bad relationship with Solent as soon as he took the job - in his first interview he said something along the lines of he knew they'd crucify him whatever he did. His reputation in recent years has been built upon winning League Two with Notts County - he only had a few games in which to do it, and in fairness he did a good job. That was the year I was at Bournemouth and the football Bompey and in particular Rochdale were playing, it wasn't an easy task for County but he did it. I'm beginning to wonder if he's out of his depth at the fishy few, but as I said previously, he did a good job last season. They could have easily gone down again but at times they were looking at the play-offs.

Crazy Diamond Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 Not really. Which part do you disagree with?

"Would you like to have tested the keeper more?" Surely the answer is yes, so it is a daft question. Might as well ask "would you have like to scored more goals?" Overall this is their level, when they are not paying players 80k a week and living beyond their means. At the minute, we are better than them.
Toomer Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Just hope he can hang in there till we go down there in December and hammer the last nail in his coffin.

Sheeesh - how glad am I that didn't happen! He comes across as very negative with a complete inability to recognise his own short-comings. This. I could (but won't) name a few posters who said they would have preferred an 'experienced' manager like Cotterill to the 'unproven' Adkins. Thank the Lord they are not a 'fan on the board' having a say in how Saints are run. As for the OP; Skates play Derby on October 29. I hope the Clot is still in charge way beyond then, at least until Christmas!!
eurosaint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Just hope he can hang in there till we go down there in December and hammer the last nail in his coffin. Can't see it, reckon uncle Avram will have been in place for a month or so before we take them on !!

Might as well ask "would you have like to scored more goals?" Yes it is a silly question but it is typical of the sort of banal question that managers and players get asked evey week.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Cotterill is the gift that keeps on giving. Lacks professionalism and blames everything and everyone for Pompey's problems. Just the sort of thick failure that somehow keeps on getting jobs in football. Hope Pompey can't afford to replace him.
Chin Strain Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Really? "Would you like to have tested the keeper more?" Surely the answer is yes, so it is a daft question. Might as well ask "would you have like to scored more goals?" Overall this is their level, when they are not paying players 80k a week and living beyond their means. At the minute, we are better than them. It does seem a ridiculous question, but Radio Solents job is to get across the facts of the game to those that weren't there. They're trying to make a point to the bestest fans in the world that their team is crap, and illicit a response from that clown to try and excuse it.
Doctoroncall Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Two home games coming up, Blackpool and Peterborough. If he loses those then he's on slippery ground what with the start of the sacking manager season starting in October.
LostBoys Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 He did well last year and has a paper thin squad this year which will inevitably give him increasing problems as time goes on. I think everyone is getting a bit fed up with blaming the referee after each game. A Pompey ST holder friend of mine thinks they have got away with a lot this year and all cards he has seen this year have been deserved. It wont last if they lose the next two home games he will be gone.
PhilippineSaint Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 Why when are the Skates playing Derby then??
Barry the Badger Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 To be fair I would like to see more managers pulling interviewers up on their idiotic questions. "would you have liked to see more end product from your team?" "would you have liked to see them make more chances?".
Chez Posted 18 September, 2011 Posted 18 September, 2011 To be fair I would like to see more managers pulling interviewers up on their idiotic questions. "would you have liked to see more end product from your team?" "would you have liked to see them make more chances?". but "you produced nothing, why not? Have you an excuse or are you out of your depth?" doesn't go down well and that is the question being asked here in a polite way
