SNSUN Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 I have an email account of about 7 years standing with Yahoo, which I've just found out has been hacked, as the few contacts I had in my address book have been getting emails from "me" with links to, I assume, dodgy websites. Where do I go from here? Do I abandon the account, or simply change my password?
saint_stevo Posted 17 September, 2011 Posted 17 September, 2011 with yahoo you can check the recent locations you logged in.......worth a look. Had the same a while back and my account had been logged in from columbia and usa! Change the password, make it strong

Actually there is a good xkcd cartoon about password strength: http://xkcd.com/936/ Basically with the computing power now available its easier for hackers to get you password via a brute force attack rather than using dictionaries so you are actually better off having a longer password that is easier to remember than a shorter one with numbers replacing letters etc.
