lambert to newcastle in january

Why go there, they have not won anything in years

Neither have we. Difference being they are a globally recognised and respected (more so than in this country) club. They also remain in the top 30 clubs in terms of revenue despite the difficult years they've ecperienced and have phenomenal support. Anyone who denies that is either pig-ignorant or for some reason has a massive chip on their shoulder.

That said, it won't happen. There is no way Ashley will be spending any money on a 30 year-old.

AP is doing a great job up there 2 wins 2 draws after 6 months of losing top players and not being aloud to bring in decent replacements.

If there is a Lambert bid Newcastle can afford 5 mill but Ashley will never allow that hes recouping his money 1st, they have not spent the 35 mill made from Carroll, it would be a bid of like 3.5 mill and were say no.

Just to add hes better then the back up strikers they currently have Shola Best lets be honest i would have Lambo over them 2, can see why people would link Lambo away from us now hes scored 5/6 goals in this league so early in the season.

We have to be realistic. A two year contract at Newcastle on only £50k a week basic would set him up for life. Key is to set the fee at something closer to £10m than £5m and have 2 to 3 targets identified and ready to spend most of it on. Why £10m? Because losing Lambo may cost us promotion this year which is a multi million hit.

Id rather have lambert than £5m - he is integral to our team and its way of playing. Not saying he is worth more to other teams - but he is worth more to us.

Gotta agree with this. Our boys know Lambert's play so well, it'd be silly to disrupt that.

£5m isn't even that much in modern day football. Granted it's a lot for a 30 year old striker who's playing at his highest level so far, but it's not when you consider the ramifications it could have for the team. Plus, we tried to bring in a forward during the summer and we weren't able to - who's to say that wont happen again in January?

Having said this there's no way Newcastle are going to give us £5m for him anyway.

stranger things have happened

Maybe but I think theres far more chance of them staying up than us getting promoted. I wouldn't bank on it. I watched them at QPR on Monday, they are a poor side playing poor football but they have some good players like Cabaye, Coloccini and Ben Arfa and there will most definitely be 3 worse sides than them this season in the PL. They'll also surely have to sign a goal scorer in January but Ashley wouldn't sanction a move for a 30 year old player even if we offered him to them on a free. He sees the money on wages wasted as there is no sell on value. The same reason he was prepared to let their best player Barton leave on a free. He'd rather get rid than pay him £60k a week when he knows at the end of his contract he won't be able to sell him.

It's a total non-starter. If a PL side takes a punt on him it will be someone like Wigan, Stoke or Bolton.

Again be careful - if offered 5 mil and no transfer request from Lambert, taken from that 5 mil would be to cost of paying off his contract etc... I posted on the Pompey takeover thread, that often the contract value, is ignored by most fans when players are sold... obviously more important when you have a higher earner on say a 3 year remaining - if sold cheap to get the wages off the the books, the net from the sale can be miniscule... which I belioeve is why Pompey depsite selling players actually still saw their net debt increase...

Selling lambert in Jan would make no sense to anyone really - he woudl cost Newcastle more than in summer, and any player at saints might as well wait and see if playing in teh prem with us first and what tehy have in tehir existing contracts re wages on promotion is also a factor...

If Lambert continues this form into xmas, Newcastle wont be the only prem club after him

I am really pleased for RL that he's had such a great start to the season, I was a doubter,no point in not admitting it,but I think he has silenced all his critics (few that there were) with his adaptation to the new level. Perhaps all that talk of us signing a 5/6/7 million £ striker gee'd him up a bit, hope it works the same with Barnard. Perhaps Connolly helps RL though.

He looks lean and sharp this year - much more so than at any time for us.

I think he's raised his game and good on him.

He's a class player and I would be very sorry if he were to go.

Nearer home

Yep, just 175 miles down the road (compared with 240 from Southampton). Really don't think Newcastle being a bit nearer home that Southampton but still a bloody long way away would be a factor.

No way will RL go to Newcastle, and anyway Pardew will probably not be there much longer once the barcodes start playing some decent teams and get found out.

If Newcastle were to bid £5m for Lambert, I'd think we'd have to seriously consider it. However, I'll stick my neck out and say there's absolutely no way they'll be paying £5m for anyone, least of all a nearly-30-year-old striker who's only ever played 6 games in the Championship.

Cortese let our top scorer go to Pardew for 5m after what he did to L'Arse ?

I dont think so....

This. £6M plus was being talked about for Maynard and Rodriguez, and Rickie is much more important to us than either of those two would be. RL completely dictates the way we play, and while perhaps not reflected in the transfer market he's worth much, much more to us than £5M in the bank IMO.

So we got 12m for Chamberlain and couldnt tempt anyone here...so some of you want 5m and let our main goal scorer go.

Baffled.....for those who think he is not good enough...get a re-run of Qpr v Newcastle and watch Jay Bothroyd and Best's performance!

Absolutely without doubt THE most intelligent post in here for ages. (Agree with the QPR strinker comment totally)

FFS we couldn't sign a striker in the summer even for 6 million why on EARTH would we let one go who is scoring goals AND is an integral part of the team.

Promotion is worth 60 million. Rickie may not be Rooney/Pele but he is a critical cog in our TEAM at the moment. 5 mil in the bank or the chance of 60 mil at the end of the season? Jeez

Too many on here spend too long playing FM

All true but not really an issue as it's very (very) unlikely to happen. If AP had wanted Lambert I think he would have been in for him before now. This is just jurnos putting 2+2 together and getting 5 I reckon.

Couldnt agree more. Except that promotion is worth far,far more than 60 million, depending on how long one stay in the Pl, and including the parachute-payments.

Looking pragmatically on it, it would be plain foolish to sell Rickie for ANY price if we`re still in contention for promotion come January.
