Saints V Birmingham - Build Up

They seem to have a few forums but no mention of us that I've found. Either they're not very bothered by us (quite likely) or they are more interested in the match they have to play before us (even more likely)

It does appear they're a bit more focused on the Braga game right now, understandable, but I did stumble across this quote which should warm the cockles of most Saints fans:

"We will not beat Southampton, by all accounts they were class against Leicester the other week, and if it wasn't for Schmichael, Southampton would have got 5 or 6..."

I thought Birmingham played well, but they did put a lot of effort in chasing the game and looked tired at the end, physical side who will make it tough for us. Redmond looked good so whoever plays right back will have to stick tight to him. We got mentioned a number of times and commentator even said Adkins will be pleased the brum had put that much effort in.

Nice one - lots of effort put in and a loss to prepare for us on Sunday - lets hope they are tired but that we are not complacent...

Lad flying over from Germany to UK for the week & making the effort to get to SMS on Sunday. I am SO fecking Jealous, would love to be at a game but marooned here with my crutches for sometime yet.

Tough game, looking forward to it, hope we get Cork back into CM but the defence has had a week longer to train together and shouldn't leave quite so many gaps as they did against Forest

From what I saw of their game last night they look a decent outfit, passed the ball around quite well and tried to attack Braga, but they were chasing shadows for a lot of the game too which has hopefully worn them out a bit. As has already been mentioned, we'll have to defend a lot better than we did against Forest otherwise I could see a first defeat at SMS on the cards.

Still, I fancy us to take this one against a what I reckon will be a jaded and tired looking Birmingham side. By Sunday it will be their 3rd game in 7 days, and our 1st in 8. A start like we had against Leeds and Ipswich is key, run them into the ground first half and nick a couple of goals, then see the 2nd half out comfortably. COYR!

Time to unleash de-Ridder

Good shout, I reckon tricky players like DeRidder, Guly and Lallana will cause them problems, in particular mercanry hoofers like Carr!

to run them ragged in the last 30 mins if we happen to be still not winning.

Can only see a win for us on Sunday! COYR

Love the confidence! The Brummies put in a decent shift last night and them scoring a goal was an absolute blessing, as it gave them hope and made them fight until the very end.

When the third Braga goal went in, the whole ground went totally silent (only a handful of Braga fans)... everyone looked absolutely gutted, Hughton looked like he was gonna cry!

Brum was gutted, deflated and exhausted. There season has started poorly considering the expectations, and Carson Yeung has been refused permission to visit the UK, so the off the field issues remain in distress.

This should work in our favour, not that we need to rely on external circumstances. Houghton is a good coach in my opinion, but I believe Adkins is better!

If we can keep tighter at the back this week, we should be up for it.

I predict a 4-2 Saints win!

COYR!

With King and maybe Zigic Playing, I'm a bit concered Fonte and Hooiveld might get a bit out muscled and we lose too many headers.

If we can cope with that, I think we can win especially if FR and DH (who I think has been brilliant for us most of the time, and is our best Left back) are back, and get

Cork back in the middle with Deano. 3-1

Zigic is injured.

Wood will start for them.

I think this will be a tough game for us but we keep grinding out results even when things don't go our own way so have some confidence that we will win. The bookies are also confident, they have us down as 8/11 favourites for the game which is very short in my opinion. I would be laying us against a side like Birmingham if I were a neutral but as I'm staunch Saints I'm looking forward to continuing our 100% St Marys record this season!! COYR!

Brum still have some good players. Amazed they still have Ridgewell, wish we did.

Wish they were away tonight, then we'd have a great chance. Still, we have a chance, just need to be on top form. They're in transition so will be inconsistent but they showed against Millwall what they're capable of. If the defence and Kelvin play as they did against Forest we could be in for a long afternoon.

Really want to see some pace and finally a start for De Ridder. At the moment our starting 11 doesn't feel as balanced or fast as when we had Chamberlain.

I'd rest Connolly. I know many now think he's brilliant etc., but to me he's a good finisher without pace and the team will be better off certain games changing it round.

Why? We've not played midweek, he is joint second highest goalscorer in this division and still a quality player, you'd rest him for what reason??

Battle plans in place .... volunteered to cook Sunday Roast ..... to make sure we have it at lunch time not 5 o'clockish and end up helping out whilst match is in progress (also doing the cooking early keeps me out of kitchen afterwards for washing up etc .... beer time for me). A bottle of wine with dinner will set me up nicely too!!

Just got some 5am SAINT beer from Sainsburys ... never heard of it before but has a red and white label ... works for me so far!!

COYR ... still doesn't make up for it not being on the tellybox but Uncle Dave will be my host for the afternoon!!
