Colinjb Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 ....No, not Blackpool, but Phil Brown's Preston in the next round of the league cup. Winable, would be nice to get some premiership opposition in the round after.
Rut Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 Home to Preston in the League Cup, Rd 3 (they won 2-0 at Charlton tonight). Surely a great chance to get to the last 16 and then from there - who knows? Before anyone goes off on one it is possible to have a Cup run and get promoted in the same season. Good teams win games - whatever competition they happen to be playing in.
Golden Balls Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 Beat them and get a nice draw after that, then win that and we can start dreaming. For now, there are still over 30 teams left in it.
buctootim Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 Given a favourable draw and a little luck its winnable cup as most of the premiership sides dont take it too seriously. I quite fancy being in Europe again

CFSFC Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 Still the big teams will be tough to beat... home again in the last 16 and like we say anything is possible. I bet you Brum ans enjoyed beating arsenal more than they did staying up the year before.
SuperMikey Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 I'm torn between wanting a good cup run and concentrating on the league. If our promotion ambitions start to wain, I would be happy to concentrate on getting as far in the cup as possible.

doddisalegend Posted 13 September, 2011 Share Posted 13 September, 2011 We've done pretty well in the cups since the take over long may it continue, Cups are a nice break from the league. Wonder if Chappers will get a run out and what sort of reception he will get from the Preston fans?
Jack Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 We should be looking to tear them a new one IMO. The papers are saying that Charlton and Preston both made lots of changes for the game last night. Our reserves should be too much for theirs
Benali Saint Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 Got my ticket for the game. I reckon Chaplow will be up for this one. But I think Phil Brown will be too as he wanted the job before Adkins got it

Patrick Bateman Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 I think we'll get to the semis now, possibly, but I think Liverpool will win it - not being in Europe, they'll go all out for the League or FA Cup this year surely?

But I think Phil Brown will be too as he wanted the job before Adkins got it I think his beef is with Darren Ferguson not PNE. I reckon he'll want to prove a point against P'boro. VectisSaint Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 I think its clear that NA knows how to work the cups. It is not as much of a distraction as for some other teams because of the depth of the squad. NA knows he can play several different players and rest some of the recognised 1st XI while still putting out a team strong enough to deal with anything teams from the Football League can throw at us. It also gives some of the players a welcome competitive game wihtout really having to put out the kids. It might be different if we draw a top PL team but otherwise I don't think its incompatible to have a decent League Cup run and continue to battle for promotion. Nexstar Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 Shouldn't be too difficult to beat them. About time we got a decent team away in the cup
holepuncture Posted 14 September, 2011 Share Posted 14 September, 2011 I reckon Chaplow will be up for this one. But I think Phil Brown will be too as he wanted the job before Adkins got it I fogot about old Brown greasing himself up for the Saints job! I remember him last year giving live interviews (before an SMS match) to the Solent whoring himself to whoever would listen... he clearly didnt get Corteses policy on the media! I can imagine a Cortese & Tangerine duo would have ended in disaster, and it reminds me how lucky we are to have Nige! Saints to field the development side with some first team benchers/fringers, progress through to the final 16, for a nice big plum tie against a plastic PL giant!
