Photo Driving Licence Expired.

Hello, a lady at work has just noticed that the photo on her licence has expired, looked on the DVLA website and they state that a reminder should have been sent with a form but she never received one.

The photo expired about 3 months ago now and will need to go to the post office and get the appropriate form.

They also want 20 quid to renew it but thats a moan for another post.

Question here is, is she still legal to drive?

I've still got my paper license, albeit it's in four pieces where its torn along the creases. And yet that is valid until I'm 70 I believe. So as far as I'm aware, I'm under no obligation to renew it, no photos needing updating. OK, it's inconvenient requiring my passport as identification for some things, but better then having to renew the license from time to time.

What is far more stupid and another stealthy way to make money for the Government, is the requirement for infants to have their own passports and then having to renew them at 5 years old. Photos of a baby are not really identifiable as the same person 3 or 4 years later and it used to be the case that children could be added to the parents' passports without the need for photos of them.

I'm also clinging onto my paper driving licence to avoid yet another Labour introduced stealth tax...

(caveat: sticking my neck out somewhat there as I've no idea when the photo licences were introduced. Could be a nasty Tory idea for all I know but, hey, I've got a Labour bashing reputation to uphold so fingers crossed)

erm....I still only have the paper only version of my driving license!

So do I, and with an address that I have not resided in for over probably 30 years...! I rent cars every month during the course of my job and have to present my licence every time - never had a problem yet - touch wood.

As I said earlier, I got done for this. Someone hit me (NOT my fault) and I had moved house and given birth within the previous 3 months. The police let the other driver go (he was a soldier - uniforms together eh) even though he was clearly at fault (witnesses statements). I had to produce my licence and I hadn't got round to changing my address.

I got a fine - he got away scot free :(
