I thought George Burley was the man for Saints. I actually punched the air when it was announced on SSN.

Yep, I go along with this as my moment of weakness; I did something similar, and also remember being seriously f**king relieved when Burley stayed at the club after Wilde & Crouch ousted Lowe.

Who knew....

No mention of your : "We must rest our best players for the run-in, as our only hope is the play-offs" thread then ??

:)

I think the "Saints Go Wilde" disease affected a great many posters on here ( and on previous forums) me included.... Thought it was all a new beginning but little did I think it would be a beginning downwards!!

Also that Idiakez would boss the midfield and drive us to the promised land !

Remember at the Dell, shouting at BT as he stood waiting to take a free kick. I basically shouted that he was useless & he should let someone else take the freekick (TBF he had been garbage up to then) ...... he strolled up & placed in the top corner & then went on an amazing goal scoring run that season.

Nope, I stand by that comment to this day. No-one could have predicted our run in would be P15, W13, D1, L1

Easy to take the p*ss in hindsight.

After being told that Adkins was the bookmakers favourite for the Saints job, I promptly told a mate "he's not big enough"

Never have I been more happy to be completely wrong

'We'll regret not spending 4.5m on Andy Reid'.

If only we'd have signed Mido....

Yeah the plan was to get Reid and Dawson wasn't it? Would have taken Dawson though, could have been a nice little earner.

Surely, by that rationale, no-one could have predicted that Huddersfield's run in would have been as good as it was? All we were doing was trying to usurp them, our run was amazing but all it served to do was keep us ahead of them.

Anyway, back on topic. Me; "Chris Baird, you will never be a centre-back".

It's ironic that one of the few who have been conclusively proven to have gotten it wrong steadfastly refuses to accept it, even on a thread dedicated to doing so in a light-hearted and irreverent fashion.

And you wonder why so few people have any time for you...

Why the F**k have we appointed Strachan. He's a joke, done nothing at Coventry

and my current faux pas...

We need to replace Lambert, he isnt cut out for the Championship, not quick enough. League 1 is his level.

I seem to remember that at our lowest ebb, when things were really getting tight to the wire, almost coming out in favour of a certain LLS's attempts at a takeover...!!!

Yikes - just think what might have been...

Quickly quashed when Chorley and Um Pahars outed him - Barry the Briefcase was the icing on the cake there!

How many on here now would care to admit that they thought HelpmeRhonda was a girl and would drink chilled Remy with her under the Toomers!!

another cracker was when someone claimed martin o'neil was just waiting for the call to be our manager..and had a flat in winchester or something

To be fair, he was definitely interviewed, he was stuck in traffic outside my flat during interview week when i was out for a smoke.

People took p*ss when you said it tbf.

For me: Hammond isn't good enough, Jake Tompson looks a class act, Walcott can't finish 1 on 1's

At youth level, Jake Thomson was a class act. Don't know what happened to him really.

Oh, feel free to take the p*ss out of it at leisure. I know that is the purpose of this thread, though I note that the idea of the thread was to actually admit things, not to point the finger at others.

I still think my suggestion was a reasonable strategy at that time.

If you care to check back, I ripped the p*ss there and then (along with many others!) so nothing to do with 'hindsight' !

Anyway I have no desire to hijack this thread but just thought that, as this was one of your most priceless gems you had an opportunity to admit that you made an arse of yourself !

Ah well, never mind....

To be fair to Alps, while I hadn't quite given up all hope things were looking pretty grim. Udders couldn't lose and we had a heck of a lot of work to do. I was also looking to the playoffs.

That wasn't his point though !

He said that we should hold our best players back, settle for the play offs, and then bring back the 'big guns' !

Fortunately Adkins was not of the same view !

Just started a thread suggesting we sign Tamas Priskin. This seems to have been met with universal derision. This would be my first ever 'you know nothing about football' moment as my opinions have been, up until that point, perfect.

Apart from the time I thought Ian Branfoot would be a welcome change from Chris Nicholl. And the time I suggested Andreas Jakobsson might turn out to be the new Svensson. And he was, he defended just like Anders....

Posted

I too thought Jake Thompson would be a star......

He can hardly ever get on the pitch for Exeter and they

play like Saints under the Grand Dutch Masters we had....

I also suggested that Rupert and Jonah would make something of themselves in the financial world when they stopped messin with the mighty Saint..

After the friendly against West Ham i waxed lyrical about our young side.

The 9 months ahead proved me wrong, the dutch werent up to much.

Playoffs if we're lucky was another gem after the Hartlepool draw.

It's rather ironic that, on the one thread he could legitimately dominate, he takes a while to arrive and then goes missing.

Mind you, he does hate any "look back with hindsight at what you said" threads - even fun ones. With good reason.

So here's another cracker from half time on Saturday:

I have a bad feeling our season is about to go off the rails....hope I am wrong.

So lining up for a whinge that "our season is going off the rails" if we fail to win a record 13th home game on the trot on Sunday.

Adkins out.

Don't bother, he won't admit he was wrong.

As he usually is.

"Henri Camara will make all the difference."

Well, he nearly did.

And after seeing us narrowly lose v Birmingham at the start of the Poortvliet 'era.'

"Based on that, we'll be alright!"

The more you think about this, the more you remember being wrong.

Indeed, this whole thread could be dedicated to some of his utter nonsense from the past year or two alone. I actually went and had a read back of a few threads from summer last year, just to see what idiocy I had come out with in comparison. Quite interesting reading really; just before the start of the season last year I was wondering if Alex Chamberlain could fill the void left by Michail Antonio.....:scared:

.... thought Lowe comming back might save us financially, Wilde in partnership as the people's champion... bets of both worlds....ahrrrr.. still think hindsight when the pain has gone might see him as a lesser evil than many - would not have bankrupted us had he not been ousted, ad naturally we have far better now... but it could as we have seen at many othetr clubs been so much worse... but for ML and NC.

.... That Redflapps was a ****...oh sorry, thats actually true is it not?

After Derby away with the kids "we'll be fine this season".

As for the fat mountain dweller it would be easier to find something the prize useless pr ick has got right instead of all the things he's got wrong, the play offs post being the best IMHO.

I wonder if any of the "administration is no solution" brigade will stick their hands up ???

I was extremely worried about the sceptre of administration. Not so much that we would go out of business, that concept never really registered as a genuine concern. More to the point, who we would get as potential owners; there was a feeling on here of "anyone is better than Lowe", and we had a lucky escape with the Pinnacle debacle. Thankfully we ended up getting fantastic owners after going through all the motions.
