Dean Hammond. In Praise Of.

Well, one thing is for sure and that is Cork was missed in midfield yesterday. Now either that is because Hammond or Morgan are not as good or perhaps the combination whatever that is works better when Cork is in it. Chaplow seems to be used now as an enforcer later on in the game which seems to work. Deano is doing a good job, however as soon as Cork is back at CM either Hammond or Morgan will be displaced.

Played very well again yesterday, top performance. My only slight gripe with him yesterday was needlessly being offside a couple of times (one he was a couple of yards off, the other he was on the right wing so could see he was off). However, in his midfield role he was brilliant.

On yesterdays showing, Morgan is going back to the bench. Hammond is playing like a true captain, and has done now since the turn of the year - really pulling us along.

Morgan is a good player, but I expected more from him as he has a job on to get in this team.

All the above pretty much spot on deano was superb, and Morgan for much of the game just not there also a very sloppy sideways pass got intercepted for the first goal that is now 3 goals he has cost us this season alone (including preseason ) corky must be back in the middle pronto as he has been outstanding there this season .I would also say chaplow again did really well when he came on ,he is a better team player than Morgan . Hammond has been superb since Chaplow came in. Morgan is one of those players where he looks awesome when we're winning and knocking the ball around, but not a leader and bypasses the game a bit when we need to dig in. Another top performance by Hammond though. Wouldn't be surprised to see us revert to Cork and Hammond in CM once Frazer is back fit.

In the program Jonno Quick named Hammond as the clubs 'best trainer.' He has certainly put the effort in to step up, all credit to him. He was one of the key men who stood up to be counted at the back end of last season and he has carried that through to this, hope his form continues.

Hammond's position was under threat, the competition has made him raise his game. At the moment Cork and Hammond are the first pick central mdfield. Well done.

For those with long memories he's beginning to remind me of Nick Holmes, and that's a big compliment

agree, has played better this season than I expected.

Has he raised his game?? To me he was very good last season and people just underestimated that quality and how effective it could be at this level. I think he's jusg carried on that good form and not be worried about the tougher fixtures.

Very accurate.....NA makes him captain and first on the team sheet for a reason.....

Star man.....

At the match v Forest and thought Hammond was great until he was moved to right midfield where he was poor; when the ball was passed to him out wide he didn't seem to know what to do with it, and he was offside when he had a clear look across the line - bit like BWP. Hammond is a centre-midfielder. And we need Cork there too, not right back.

are we not dropping hammond this season as the weak link...?

he is not skipper by accident

Quite Jamie. I don't understand what everyone is saying. Hammond is not a leader, offers nothing, he can't tackle, pass and is too slow for this league. His poor first touch will get found out as this level, you Mark my words.

I know what you are saying and agree he did not look as comfortable, but he was not moved to a conventional right midfield position - it was the right side of a diamond which Adkins has employed on more than one occasion successfully. I would suggest the whole midfield never looks quite right as a diamond - I don't think they really 'get it'.
