Jos the Boss

read somewhere he was crap and kept heading it up in the air?

Mixed feelings with this win. Fantastic smash and grab against forest who dominated the entire second half and will feel rightly aggrieved with some of the decisions.

Fox was awful and got done numerous times. New defender was bad too heading straight up in the air. How forest failed to score more than twice I will never know. They were clearly better than us in the second half.

Still we won and lambert was superb. Excellent result and the type we will need if we want to do well.

He was solid enough. It's pretty difficult to tell after 90 minutes in a match we didn't control well at all. Especially as he hasn't been playing at Celtic and slotted into an entirely new defence other than Fonte. If he does a job until January then it's a good bit of business. If the unthinkable happens and we nab promotion we'll need a better quality of player, but it's too early to tell how well he'll cope with the Championship.

No doubt somebody will point to a couple of pieces of poor distribution but really, who in our defence doesn't knock it stray on occasion? Jos also seems capable of winning headers without climbing all over the opposition's attacker and risking the foul which I like. In summary: not a poor debut by any means, let's give him a chance.

He was alright, he's nice on the ball and likes the play it out from the back which is good. He looks like a tank too and had to contend with Miller for alot of the game, which I thought he did well.

Some of his heading was a bit up in the air, rather than away, but he didn't do much wrong. He'll get better with us as well, no doubts.

Hooiveld looked no worse then Seaborne. Decently mobile, ok in the air, a little uncertain when under physical pressure but vvery decent.

More importantly though I feel he has room to improve further... which is just as well as he needs to read runners in at the back post better.

An ok start for him.

Correct - straight up in the air on about 4 occasions.

We looked a bit poor defensively. Forest were sh1t first half, but still managed two goals. We were a bit more resolute (perhaps lucky) second half, but no surprise given we'd completely changed our back line from the previous game, bar Fonte

If you mean me then yes I was. Itchen north block 4 row h to be precise.

Missed the pleasures of block 4 upper today- how was our resident piece of bait for the away contingent, the fat, slightly f**ked-looking lad who's a carer in the disabled area? Always steps up when there's a big game. Top lad.

Not the best game to judge him on (coming in to a makeshift defence), but have to say I'm not sure he's better than what we've got already. Certainly no better than Seabourne. Hopefully he''ll settle in and develop, but I think middle of the defence will be a weak spot for us this season.

A bit off the pace but Miller and Derbyshire were such handfuls. Don't really get people calling him shocking, Jose just as fault for goals as Jos, straight through the defence. Fox was very poor, minus the cross for Lambert's 3rd - hopefully Harding is back for B'ham.

Cork at RB didn't really work so would like to see him back in CM next week, but I know that the changes were enforced.

He was ok. It's hard for a CB to come into a defence which has another debutant and a player out of position.

We did look nervy at the back, Fox seemed to give their players too much space down the flanks and hardly ever blocked a cross. They were good going forwards (second half especially) and players like Reid and Greening will always pick out the runners with good passes.

Thought we missed Cork in the midfield. We lost too much possession there which put extra pressure on the defence.

Agree with all of that. I do understand it is his first game and of course he needs time, but he didn't look like much of an improvement over Seaborne which is a shame.

This. I thought Fonte was at fault for the first goal - Miller seemed to push it too far forwards initially, thought Jose could have slid in to knab the ball but completely missed it, miller squared it and Derbyshire slotted it away

Thought he did ok, not spectacular, but ok. I'm sure once he's had time to bed in he will be a capable replacement for Jaidi or Seaborne. Having said that I thought both he & Fox were at fault for both goals, but with 3/4 of the defence playing together for the first time, these things happen.

He's not as good as Vidic (or Fonte) though. To be honest I was more concerned with Fox at LB.

He was better than Cork and Fonte. Of course being fan favourites you can't critisise them.

I think that is unfair. Cork was played out of position and I don't think he was better than Fonte at all tbh. In your world that means you will dismiss my opinion because he is a 'fan favourite.' In reality, Fonte was actually decent and I thought Jos was OK but dodgy at points.

Shocking - At fault for both goals

Agreed yes he was, I don't believe he will even feature over Martin next game. Distribution was appalling, Saints players didn't look like they wanted to pass to him. He didn't look at all comfortable on the ball, yes he was a big lump, won a few headers but a couple of times you would have thought his head was shaped liked a 50p piece. Quote me again if you like but bet he plays no more than another 3 times for Saints max and ****s off back to Celtic. The only very poor performance today. Bring back Jahidi

. Anyone who thinks he did well was watching a different game

Jos was better than Fonte? Really? Where were you sat?

Did I say he was better? No. What I was agreeing with is that sometimes fans favourites errors are glossed over and unfortunately with Jos it appears that some have been influenced on the basis of the opinion of Celtic fans. I prefer to make my own mind up.

Eeeek bring back Jaidi (soon) having got used to a big CB who heads the ball the way Jaidi does (ie back into the oppos half) I was shocked how awful Jos the boss was from his size I expected him to be good in the air.

Got caught totally flat footed for both Forest goals (though Fontes lack of a challenge and kelvin's impression of a stone statue didn't help)

Looks good with a ball at his feet very calm when in loads of space under no pressure. Not a great start IMO. Having said that one match in a make shift back four is to early to write him off.

to be fair the the guy - he was awful

shame i had hoped he was the CB we were all hoping for...

he was static, showed no pace and hardly won a header all afternoon

hurry back danny seaborne

and before any one moans - yes i was at the game and had perfect view of their 2 goals (i sit up high, level with the top of the 6 yard box)
