georgeweahscousin Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 I did a bit of research, some of it a little bit easier than others, but eventually tracked them all down.... http://wp.me/p1mFFL-ao
saints-cris Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Was actually wondering this myself the other day.. nice one. Mad how some are flying so high, and the others probably barely making £50 a game.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 I did a bit of research, some of it a little bit easier than others, but eventually tracked them all down.... http://wp.me/p1mFFL-ao Best one to date - good work
SaintAndy14 Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 A very interesting read - thank you and well done!
Sour Mash Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 (edited) Good read that. What was interesting is our players have either done fairly well in the top two divisions or completely faded out of professional football with very little in-between. Edited 9 September, 2011 by Sour Mash
St.Jeweller Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Isn't that Lallana celebrating a goal at portman road !!!!!!
Saint Stimp Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Wonder what the score would be if they had a rematch..
CHAZZA 92 Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Josh Dutton Black only playing one div above me!! Crazy stuff
Huntingdon Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Thanks for all the work you put in, very interesting read
Super_Saint Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Great read, interesting to see how far they made it. "Shane Supple – Retired. Now a Gaelic Football professional." - Isn't Gaelic an amateur sport? Strange move if it is.
The9 Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Great read, interesting to see how far they made it. "Shane Supple – Retired. Now a Gaelic Football professional." - Isn't Gaelic an amateur sport? Strange move if it is. I remember reading that Shane Supple specifically walked away from football because he'd had enough of it and it wasn't what he expected it to be. You have to admire that really... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/i/ipswich_town/8211586.stm "deep down my heart is not in the game any more and I'm not going to go into work every day trying to convince myself that it is, so it's the right time for me to walk away. "I suppose you could say that I have fallen out of love with the game and when that happens I've always said to myself that I wouldn't hang around."" Excellent article by the way.
egg Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Cracking article - thanks. The ones that got away were Sparv and Kritchell. Sparv oozed class whenever I saw him. Kritchell had bags of ability but injury ruined a promising career. Who was in charge when we let Sparv go? Whoever it was should be shot.
pingwing Posted 9 September, 2011 Posted 9 September, 2011 Great read, interesting to see how far they made it. "Shane Supple – Retired. Now a Gaelic Football professional." - Isn't Gaelic an amateur sport? Strange move if it is. Yep, one of the key bits to all of the gaa sports is that its strictly amateur. Means its even more rubbish to watch than the rules making limited sense and all the players being very aggressive drunks...
alpine_saint Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Galling to see what has happened to Dyer and Best, especially Best, who was sh*t in the Derby playoffs.
georgeweahscousin Posted 10 September, 2011 Author Posted 10 September, 2011 Thanks for all the feedback and noticing my Gaelic Football cock up! I have rectified it.
The Majestic Channon Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Thanks for all the feedback and noticing my Gaelic Football cock up! I have rectified it. One more, Halmstad is in Sweden not norway (-:
pingwing Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Oh I remember the other one I meant to point out, under the Leon Best entry you have ended with the sentence "He has represented Eire at senior level" but Irish is not used to describe Irish football for neither the North (obviously) or the Southern team (never sure why but the word Eire is just not used in that context as it tends to represent the idea of an all Ireland state opposed to the separation of states). So really it should say "He represented the Republic of Ireland at senior level" (especially as he's not Irish born too) Interesting read though
dronskisaint Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Enjoyed reading that - thanks! Couple of them have ended up at a local (to me) non-league team - Lowestoft Town who also have Boncho (sp?) Guenchev's son playing for them..there has always been a strong link between the two even back when I used to play...Laurie Sivell, Terry Butcher and Richard Money were players who went the other way back then.
saints-cris Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 We should have slaughtered them looking back at those sides
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Good informative article and well researched too. Amazing no one from the Ipswich squad "made" it big time. Thanks for sharing it. As you seem to be hot on research how about trying to find Lee Powell (little Welsh winger from the 1990s) for me - I have looked everywhere.
georgeweahscousin Posted 10 September, 2011 Author Posted 10 September, 2011 All I can find so far is that he played for Ton Pentre AFC in the League of Wales in the 1997/97 season.
derry Posted 10 September, 2011 Posted 10 September, 2011 Yep, one of the key bits to all of the gaa sports is that its strictly amateur. Means its even more rubbish to watch than the rules making limited sense and all the players being very aggressive drunks... Apart from being correct about the amateur part the rest of the post shows a complete lack of understanding of two great sports.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 11 September, 2011 Posted 11 September, 2011 All I can find so far is that he played for Ton Pentre AFC in the League of Wales in the 1997/97 season. Yes thats as far as I got - keep your ears open for me
rooney Posted 12 September, 2011 Posted 12 September, 2011 The matches were televised and I was wondering, only the other day, where everybody was since.Thank you for a well researched and interesting article.
