Great read, interesting to see how far they made it.

"Shane Supple – Retired. Now a Gaelic Football professional." - Isn't Gaelic an amateur sport? Strange move if it is.

I remember reading that Shane Supple specifically walked away from football because he'd had enough of it and it wasn't what he expected it to be. You have to admire that really...

"deep down my heart is not in the game any more and I'm not going to go into work every day trying to convince myself that it is, so it's the right time for me to walk away. "I suppose you could say that I have fallen out of love with the game and when that happens I've always said to myself that I wouldn't hang around.""

Excellent article by the way.

Cracking article - thanks.

The ones that got away were Sparv and Kritchell.

Sparv oozed class whenever I saw him. Kritchell had bags of ability but injury ruined a promising career.

Who was in charge when we let Sparv go? Whoever it was should be shot.

Yep, one of the key bits to all of the gaa sports is that its strictly amateur. Means its even more rubbish to watch than the rules making limited sense and all the players being very aggressive drunks...

Oh I remember the other one I meant to point out, under the Leon Best entry you have ended with the sentence "He has represented Eire at senior level" but Irish is not used to describe Irish football for neither the North (obviously) or the Southern team (never sure why but the word Eire is just not used in that context as it tends to represent the idea of an all Ireland state opposed to the separation of states). So really it should say "He represented the Republic of Ireland at senior level" (especially as he's not Irish born too)

Interesting read though :)

Enjoyed reading that - thanks!

Couple of them have ended up at a local (to me) non-league team - Lowestoft Town who also have Boncho (sp?) Guenchev's son playing for them..there has always been a strong link between the two even back when I used to play...Laurie Sivell, Terry Butcher and Richard Money were players who went the other way back then.

Apart from being correct about the amateur part the rest of the post shows a complete lack of understanding of two great sports.
