Just wondering as to whether any inhabitants of The Lounge, plenty of whom are quite politicised, are actually members of political parties or NGOs?

I was a member of the Labour Party until Blair took us to war and had been since I was 14. Now I'm a member of The Green Party but, oddly, understand where UKIP are coming from regarding EU membership, which is a concern for an avowed Europhile!

nope..and im sure it would be frowned upon given my *cough* job and all that goes with it

Many moons ago, when I was planning to swap over to, what was then called "Comms Techs" who often worked out of Cheltenham, I was advised that membership of a political party and Greenpeace would be deemed incompatible with the job.

So you could fight for democracy but couldn't belong to a political party that represented democracy.

I know what you mean...easier to remain "impartial".....otherwise with what I do, people would go digging and digging etc etc

Labour Party!

Are you content with that dweeb Milliband as leader? Can you really ever see him as PM? I can't. To me he is the most feeble, slimy careerist loser that the Labour party have ever chosen to lead them. He is an utter drip. What happened to the real men who used to lead the Labour movement? I mean, even Brown - the worst PM this country has ever, ever had - at least he had substance. It was horse manure substance, but at least he was a Big Man. Milliband should still be breast feeding.

There is no doubt in my mind that David Miliband would have been the next PM. Cameron bullies Ed in the HOC exchanges even when it's on a subject that Labour should have the upper hand. There has been so much to pick up on that the Tories have screwed up (already) yet it's been almost ignored by Labour.

He won't be Labour leader at the next election.

Very interesting that Dr Who is a labour supporter. For the record, I am not a member of any party but at the moment it is the Tory party who I feel are the best choice to lead the country after the Labour c*ck up post Blair.

Bring a Bottle Party member for 29 years now. Don't think they'd ha e survived without my input and copious contributions.I did actually join CND for a year in my teens.

Done a bit of paid work for Labour and know some of the lot under Brown and in opposition; but definitely not a member. What I will say is that scratch under the surface of the leadership and you'll find more committed, down-to-earth people in the party -people who go to the football and like to banter than you'll ever find in the Tory party. Whatever you say about Labour -much of which is true, you're kidding yourselves if you think the Tories are the solution.

I was a member of the Liberal Democrats, but no longer. May re-join at some point soon. I did look at joining CLEAR recently, which I may still do. For those who don't know, CLEAR is a party pushing for drug law reform.
