Dr Who? Posted 6 September, 2011 Share Posted 6 September, 2011 I do not understanding the thinking behind tonights game and the ticketing prices. I was offered 2 tickets for free to go to tonights game, and even free I could not be bothered. I get up at 6am and travel into London for work, and I did not want to hang around, go to a game that we will win in the end but without doing anything special. Then I would travel home and get in after midnight, to get up at 6am again. England games just do not hold the interest for me that club games do, I would travel down for a home game for Saints, but not for England. Out of interest I looked on the FA Website and found that the cheapest tickets were £55, now come on with people struggling for money, and also losing faith in the Enland football team in general, I really think they need to take a look at their ticketing policy for these games. I know they will not look at travelling all over the country as it is the national home and they have a stadium to pay for, but I think that they would sell out if they did so. I have switch on the TV to watch tonight, but did not on Friday, only to see what I feared and many empty seats in the crowd. If the FA are not going to offer cheaper tickets for a sell out, then at least give the left over tickets to schools in London? I just cannot see the sense in it all, as it all comes down to supply and demand surely, like every other business!!!
Hatch Posted 6 September, 2011 Share Posted 6 September, 2011 You made the right decision to turn down those tickets.

rallyboy Posted 6 September, 2011 Share Posted 6 September, 2011 the last world cup was the final straw for me. Every two/four years I would have my shirt on in front of the telly, national anthem etc - we would have 'a golden generation' or 'a great chance of winning'.......and then it all turns to sh)t. There are only so many times that it turns to sh)t before it dawns on you that it is never going to happen because we aren't good enough. I won't be fooled into thinking we can compete again. Describing the international set up as a load of lazy overpaid sex offenders going through the motions might be considered a bit harsh - but I would rather watch a Hollyoaks boxed set than England v Wales, in fact I would rather chuck £55 out of the front window. Seriously though, whose fault is that? Why is there such a disparity between expectation and actual results? We haven't been genuine favourites for a major tournament since 1996, and even then only because we played every game at Wembley. Yet the press go completely overboard about our chances. Why. Because they want to build up the team to the nth degree before they bring it crashing back down to earth. And all in an effort to maximise their newspaper sales by creating a massive national scandal. Every tournament we slump out of has a whipping boy. From Turnip Taylor in the World Cup 94 quali failure, the press has vilified Beckham, Keegan, Sven, Hoddle, Rooney, Mclaren and now finally Capello. Spot a trend?! No rational thought whatsoever, just a need to have a hate and blame figure to plaster all over the front and back pages to boost circulation. You blame the England setup for the way you feel; but we are not that good a side and we should not expect to win or get to the semi final of every tournament we play in. 1/4 finals is a good achievement for us. Perhaps England fans should blame the press, and dare I say it their naievity for the way they feel about the national team? I know I gave up my expectation of winning anything years ago. scotty Posted 6 September, 2011 Share Posted 6 September, 2011 I saw the empty seat. RIP Was hoping it was Gareth 'backward pass' Barry. All seriousness, sad news. Yeh, and the guy was only 44. Very sad indeed. I couldnt quite work out from the bbc article, did he have a heart attack near a fight and then injure his head falling down, or did he get in a fight with some other Wales fans and have a heart attack during it? They seem pretty sure there werent any England fans involved.

dubai_phil Posted 7 September, 2011 Share Posted 7 September, 2011 RIP to the Welsh fan, sad story TBH I couldn't even be bothered to try and find even a score feed. We watched a DVD then channel hopping found that the cricket had finally started. Now THAT was entertainment and shows how an England Sports team CAN perform. No egos, just hard work and team ethic matched with an incredibly high confidence level (well apart from Bopara) Kraken talks about "teams expecting to win" but even after India had scored what looked like a mammoth total, the English players just came out and splatted them away - THEY clearly expected to win, not sure how many of those die hard nutters in fancy dress in the crowd expected them to though? It's also sad that future Mrs D_P had gone up to the computer room to listen to the Polish friendly against Germany. First goals they've scored against the Krauts for 31 years, he Wahooo's as they scored were almost as loud as me & Eric when we listened to the Plymouth game last season - her mobile was going nuts with the txts from all her pals watching it online. Seems THEY still manage to have some pride in their football team. Personally I think the sooner that the "Golden Generation" of Terry Cashley Lampard move on the better. Fans can relate to the way that the cricket lads have worked so hard to improve and the way they conduct themselves. Such a long way from the "Having an England Cap is good for my Marketing Value" attitude of the footballers. Cook - technique problems works hard with the coaches sorts it - has improved tremendously. John Terry - can ANYONE honestly tell me he has Improved in the past 4 years?
