Poll: Do we need another forward?

If we do get somone in then fair enough if we dont I would still be very happy with our squad, I think we have some outstanding players and I like the way we are trying to play.

The nice thing with our squad is that they pretty much know each others game due to little disruption, DC is really playing very well but not sure he will be as good next year, esp if we do manage to reach the prem. So then do we get somone in with the potential to slowly bring into the team - for next year, have we somone in the acedemy who may fill the position? Who knows

Yes. Modern football is a squad game, and if you look at the league cup tie against Swindon, despite the two make shifts scoring, we do need an out and out striker. Lambert and Connolly are doing a great job, Connolly continues top surprise me, but I'll eat my bum if he can last 50+ games this season. Barnard is yet to play of course, but it's his current absence through injury that highlights our need for another striker. I believe when he comes back that he'll do a very good job for us, but with his court case to come his future is still uncertain.

Some people may think not, after all, we can change the formation and play a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-5-1 to accommodate a lone striker, but I think a loan striker would boost our options within the squad, and I suspect it's something Adkins has already thought about. It depends who we can get too, I expect there are some great loan strikers to be had now that the Premier League teams have picked their 25 man squads - and even if we didn't need another striker, us bringing one in on loan would stop other nPC teams bringing that player in on loan.

I still think our striking department lacks any young talent. Our youngest first team striker is Barnard, at 27 he's at his peak. Unless we have a great striker waiting in the youth team, I feel investment in this department will need to be made next year, especially if we're building a team for the future.

We can get by with what we have, for sure we have enough quality with what we have to ride the season out, but anything remotely like an injury crisis up top, and we could rue not having a back up striker. Just my opinion though, I'd like to see a new striker brought in on loan.

In answer to the OP, yes I think we do need another striker.

RL - unrealistic to expect 46 games

DC - unbelievably optimistic to expect him to go without injury for that long, plus even if fit he is 34

LB - currently injured, and then theres his court case

Forte - no, I don't see him being up to this league

This means pushing AL further forward perhaps, or relying on Guly.

Question isn't whether we need a forward but what kind of forward.

Our transfer targets have been quite confusing, at least on the surface.

For all the talk about pace, we've been linked with players -Rodriguez, Sharp, Waghorn- who are more like Lambert than your nippy forward who plays on the shoulder of the last defender. Notwithstanding our links to Baldock (which seem legit), nobody knows whether we were ever seriously interested in Beckford, Ebanks-Blake, Maynard - players that would give us pace.

Do we need one? No!!

Would we like another one to compliment what we have? Yes please!!

As this thread has already descended into plsstaking from post #2 onwards, I'll add that I'm quite happy to compliment our current strikers if they feel it would help.

I think he should be given a chance from the bench at least. I know we only have 5 subs now but I think his two league cup appearances should have earn't him at least a chance to come off the bench. He could be our new Nicky Banger :)

I think Nick Blackman from Blackburn would be a good loan signing for a few months until LB is back or until January. Saw him play a few times in the SPL for Motherwell on loan, and although it's not a very good standard in the league he looked a cut above. Plays like Maynard, except he's not as polished yet. Will be a good player in the future.

Definately no poll here.

However, I don't think it's an absolute necessety to get in a striker. Unless one of the forwards goes down with a long term injury I can see Lambert, Connolly, Barnard & Guily being just fine to manage the workload and if it's pace off the bench you want then we have Forte.

In saying that, you can never have too many good players...

Of course we don't "need" one. We can perfectly well turn out a decent 11 without brining in new players. It's a question of whether it's worth forking out a 6 figure sum on someone. If it's an over-priced primadonna of dubious ability then no. If it's a young up-coming player who'd improve the team and we can afford them then obviously. It all depends on the deal. Given the fact that neither Lambert or Conolly cost anything like what the players we're being linked with are said to be worth and both seem eminently capable of doing a job in this division I'd be keeping my chequebook in my pocket.

Lol

It makes me smile every time someone writes 'compliment' on here when they mean 'complement'. I have this mental image of us buying a new striker whose only job is to stand there saying things like, "Oh, good shot Rickie!" or "I say! Jolly good try, David old chap!"

But then, I'm easily amused.
