Emergency Loan

There two categories of Loan. Standard loans that must be agreed during the normal transfer window and Emergency loans, which can be agreed outside the transfer window subject to certain limitations.

There has been speculation about a striker on emergency loan, but unless LB becomes unavailable, does anyone know if this would be permitted by the regulations? It seems more likely that despite the well-discussed attempts at signing a striker we will continue with what we have but 3 recognised strikers (excluding Guly) does feel a bit short of ideal.

On the CB, we had already taken Hooiveld on loan before the los of Dan Seaborne, so surely another left-sided CB is an absolute necessity until Dan is fit again. Odd thing is, we seem to have plenty of cover - Martin, Jaidi and Hooiveld - but not another first choice CB, which seems a good example of a situation that the Emergency Loan is designed for.

It's not an 'emergency loan'. You can get loads in anytime during the loan window which i THINK opens a week after the transfer window closes (tomorrow?). I think they have changed the rules from the time where we had to get Kasey Keller in on loan in 2005 where that was a loan outside of the transfer window.

I might be wrong though. I would have thought we could do with another striker who is happy to not be first choice and possibly a centre back.

I don't think the term emergency loan actually means anything.

You can sign any player you want on a short-term 93 day loan when the window opens, I think the limitations come into affect when the transfer windows are shut and you need to make a quick move due to having no goal keepers etc.

But the emergency loan window has been used to make permanent signings in recent years, i.e a 3 month loan with a view to a permanent £2m in January.

As S-Clarke and Saint Garett have said, you don't need to be in a crisis to bring in an emergency loan. You could have a fully fit and available squad and still bring players in during the emergency loan window between tomorrow and some point in November. For example last year Richard Chaplow was an "emergency loan".

I think Professor is confusing it with when clubs in the past have brought in for example a keeper on loan due to an injury crisis outside of the loan or transfer window (as Man City did with Fulop). In these cases they are given special dispensation due to a lack of goalkeepers.

...and as above with Kasey Keller.

Well technically it is an emergency loan, but as others have said that's just a name and as you imply there is no restriction or need to prove you have an emergency.

My understanding is that the main real difference between a standard loan and an emergency one is that a standard one can be for up to 120 odd days and and emergency only up to 90 odd days. So sign a loan player in the main transfer window, and the loan can be up to January window. Sign one in the emergency loan window and you have to do some careful counting.
