Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Can you guess the match that had this line-up: Southampton: Andrew McNeil, Craig Richards, Sean Rudd, Martin Cranie, Sebastian Wallis-Tayler, Lloyd James, Tim Sparv, Theo Walcott, Nathan Dyer, Leon Best (Feliciano Condesso, 83), David McGoldrick. Subs not used: Josh Dutton-Black, Ashlee Jones, Gareth Bale, Adam Lallana.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 FA Youth cup final or something like that
Crazy Diamond Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 FA Youth cup final or something like that That would be my guess as well.
sandwichsaint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Redknapp's team away at Mansfield in the Lge Cup? (wink thing)
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 September, 2011 Author Posted 5 September, 2011 Yes indeed FA Youth Cup Final First Leg. St Marys Stadium. 18 April 2005. http://www.footballforums.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-86048.html That team would do ok in the Prem today. Does anyone know what happened to some of the guys who didn't "make it" as such?
Shropshire Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Arguably the two best players in that lineup did not get on the pitch.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Ashley Jones and Josh Dutton black ?
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 That team would do ok in the Prem today. No it wouldn't! These are all miles away from Premier League standard... Andrew McNeil Craig Richards Sean Rudd Sebastian Wallis-Tayler Feliciano Condesso Josh Dutton-Black Ashlee Jones These are doing relatively well but doubt they will ever be Premier League standard... David McGoldrick Tim Sparv Martin Cranie Lloyd James These are the only ones currently in the Premier League... Theo Walcott Nathan Dyer Leon Best Gareth Bale And finally a player who will at some point be a Premier League player... Adam Lallana

The9 Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 You really are a bore. I found it far more insightful than some bloke posting cobblers about the team being Prem standard, when the defence at least looks decidedly non-League.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 You really are a bore. Why is that a bore? As The9 says above, it is of more use than your wild claims that the team is Premier League standard. What were you basing that on? Many of the players are currently playing at a very low level or have left the profession completely. Only four are currently playing in the Premier League, of the others only Lallana is likely to reach that level, so that is five out of sixteen.

Remind me not to bother posting again as I clearly don't have the first clue about football unlike you. When I saw that team, it struck me that the transfer fees generated by some of those players must have been quite substantial.

When I saw that team, it struck me that the transfer fees generated by some of those players must have been quite substantial. It wouldn't even do "okay", it would be terrible and massacred every week. Although Bale, Walcott, Best, Dyer and Lallana are good players, they can't make up for a number of non league players in the other positions.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Before you criticise me again for pointing this out, you were the one that made the wild and unjustified comment and this is a forum intended for debate and differing viewpoints. All I did was outline why I disagreed with you, I think you are in a tiny minority if you think that team would "do okay in the Premier League".
Doctoroncall Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Wasn't Dutton-Black one of the bad crowd we had along with Ranger as youth players? Out of all those and ignoring the obvious (Bale and Walcott), I think Tim Sparv and Leon Best CSDAJFU

You did get the answer to the original question wrong though. I can't believe no-one has picked you up on that.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Yep, was only a quick guess. I went to both games as well, but too long ago to remember who played in each of them off the time of my head!

Out of all those and ignoring the obvious (Bale and Walcott), I think Tim Sparv and Leon Best CSDAJFU I was reading a Toon forum the other day, and on the whole, they currently like Leon. As an aside, there are rumours going round today that Mr Pardew has walked
Saint_John Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Here is the team sheet from the PL Academy Final the year before. Note there is one player current on Saints books in that final
doddisalegend Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Here is the team sheet from the PL Academy Final the year before. Note there is one player current on Saints books in that final Is that Jonno quick in the sheff utd team?
alpine_saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 2005/06 FA Academy League Final MK middle son's first ever game. Was impressed with Lallana, and McGoldrick; could have sworn Dutton-Black played.
SNSUN Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Has there ever been a successful footballer called Sebastian? I doubt it. A bit like having a Rupert at a professional football club... Am I right in saying that Eddie Anaclet is also known as Eddie Odhiambo? There's a player whose name converts into a decent chant. EDIT: Juan Sebastian Veron, just thought of it. Pretty uncommon though.

If MLG's calling in life is to dredge up facts so that he can point out why things aren't literally true, fair play to him. But lets not pretend that this is anything but menial work requiring minimal skill and makes MLG little more than a glorified coolie or waste-handler. I can't remember the last time MLG actually said something insightful about the club or provided some analysis or explanation that made me think; but there are tons of other posters on here who, notwithstanding the occasional slip, do that on a routine basis. With silly money sloshing around as it is I think it wouldn't be far off the £100m mark. Bale would fetch the most.

The fact that we seem very adept at bringing through attacking talent is brilliant, as this is in all honesty where the big money moves happen. When you look at the riches that we have had available to us in respect to bringing through youth talent. you could add Bridge, Surman, Mills (Matt) to that list and you would have a very good team. Yes defensively the team you have pasted up there is pretty weak but wouldn't require too much strengthening to be a half decent force.
Doctoroncall Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Must you embarass me? :-D Coates (the new Liverpool CB) ;-)

Thank You for that. I know what I said wasn't literally true, but I'm glad to see you got my general point, which was basically what a great little team it was. I come on here to get away from pedants, so he has gone on my ignore list.
Saint_clark Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 I'm pretty sure a few of those aren't even playing football anymore (Richards, Rudd, Wallis-taylor and maybe Dutton-black).
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Has there ever been a successful footballer called Sebastian? I doubt it. A bit like having a Rupert at a professional football club... Am I right in saying that Eddie Anaclet is also known as Eddie Odhiambo? There's a player whose name converts into a decent chant. EDIT: Juan Sebastian Veron, just thought of it. Pretty uncommon though. There's also a Sebastian Kehl, a Sebastian Abreu and a Sebastian Squillaci
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Guess the match for this line-up then: Turner, Rodrigues, Peach, Holmes, Blyth, Steele, Gilchrist, Channon, Osgood, McCalliog, Stokes. or this one: Niemi, Bridge, Lundekvam, M Svensson, Baird, Telfer, A Svensson, Oakley, Marsden, Ormerod, Beattie.
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one should be a bit more tricky: Jones, Monk, Lundekvam, Richards, Bridge, Tessem, Marsden, Kachloul, Pahars, Davies, Beattie. Subs: Moss, Le Tissier, Draper, Benali, El Khalej.
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 1976 and 2003 FA Cup Finals. Well done!.... a bit easy though
doughnutman Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one should be a bit more tricky: Jones, Monk, Lundekvam, Richards, Bridge, Tessem, Marsden, Kachloul, Pahars, Davies, Beattie. Subs: Moss, Le Tissier, Draper, Benali, El Khalej. Last game at the Dell? Against Arsenal?
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one should be a bit more tricky: Jones, Monk, Lundekvam, Richards, Bridge, Tessem, Marsden, Kachloul, Pahars, Davies, Beattie. Subs: Moss, Le Tissier, Draper, Benali, El Khalej. Last game at the Dell in May 2001, 3-2 win against Arsenal.
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one should be worth a prize: Jones, Dodd, Benali, Marsden, Monkou, Lundekvam, Le Tissier, M Hughes, Beattie, Pahars (80' Beresford), Kachloul. Subs not used: D Hughes, Ostenstad, Hiley, Moss
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 September, 2011 Author Posted 5 September, 2011 Referring back to the match first posted about, the Ipswich goalie that day was called Shane Supple... what a great name for a goalie :-) Unfortunately, he didn't make it (from Wiki): Retirement from soccer On 20 August 2009, Ipswich Town announced that they had agreed to cancel Shane Supple's contract at the request of the player, allowing him to pursue a career outside professional soccer.[4] He said that he had "fallen out of love with the game" and wished to pursue a different career path. His desire to play Gaelic football with the Dublin county team was a major motivating factor.
Dazza82 Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one, Niemi, Telfer, Lundekvam, Higginbotham, Bernard, Prutton, Redknapp, Quashie, Le Saux, Camara, Ormerod.?

Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one, Niemi, Telfer, Lundekvam, Higginbotham, Bernard, Prutton, Redknapp, Quashie, Le Saux, Camara, Ormerod.? Saints vs. Man Utd, 14th of May 2005: Last game of Premier Leauge football at St. Mary's..... but soon to return
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 Saints 2-0 Everton? The Great Escape game? Well done, sir!
S-Clarke Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one, Niemi, Telfer, Lundekvam, Higginbotham, Bernard, Prutton, Redknapp, Quashie, Le Saux, Camara, Ormerod.? Bar Niemi, That was such a bad team really, no wonder we went down. I don't think Quashie plays football anymore either, and he was arguably our better player after Anti in that team.
saintmatt Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 I bet you were foaming at the gash when you saw you could correct that. massive lol!
Danish Saint Posted 5 September, 2011 Posted 5 September, 2011 This one should bring back some memories: Shilton, Mills, Dennis, Williams, Wright, Agboola, Holmes, Moran, Worthington, Armstrong, Wallace
