That team would do ok in the Prem today.

No it wouldn't! :D

These are all miles away from Premier League standard...

Andrew McNeil

Craig Richards

Sean Rudd

Sebastian Wallis-Tayler

Feliciano Condesso

Josh Dutton-Black

Ashlee Jones

These are doing relatively well but doubt they will ever be Premier League standard...

David McGoldrick

Tim Sparv

Martin Cranie

Lloyd James

These are the only ones currently in the Premier League...

Theo Walcott

Nathan Dyer

Leon Best

Gareth Bale

And finally a player who will at some point be a Premier League player...

Adam Lallana

I bet you were foaming at the gash when you saw you could correct that.

You really are a bore.

You really are a bore.

Why is that a bore? As The9 says above, it is of more use than your wild claims that the team is Premier League standard. What were you basing that on? Many of the players are currently playing at a very low level or have left the profession completely. Only four are currently playing in the Premier League, of the others only Lallana is likely to reach that level, so that is five out of sixteen.

**** me, all I said is that it would do "ok". Remind me not to bother posting again as I clearly don't have the first clue about football unlike you.

When I saw that team, it struck me that the transfer fees generated by some of those players must have been quite substantial.

It wouldn't even do "okay", it would be terrible and massacred every week. Although Bale, Walcott, Best, Dyer and Lallana are good players, they can't make up for a number of non league players in the other positions.

Before you criticise me again for pointing this out, you were the one that made the wild and unjustified comment and this is a forum intended for debate and differing viewpoints. All I did was outline why I disagreed with you, I think you are in a tiny minority if you think that team would "do okay in the Premier League".

You did get the answer to the original question wrong though. I can't believe no-one has picked you up on that.

Wasn't Dutton-Black one of the bad crowd we had along with Ranger as youth players?

Out of all those and ignoring the obvious (Bale and Walcott), I think Tim Sparv and Leon Best CSDAJFU

I was reading a Toon forum the other day, and on the whole, they currently like Leon. As an aside, there are rumours going round today that Mr Pardew has walked

Has there ever been a successful footballer called Sebastian? I doubt it. A bit like having a Rupert at a professional football club...

Am I right in saying that Eddie Anaclet is also known as Eddie Odhiambo? There's a player whose name converts into a decent chant.

EDIT: Juan Sebastian Veron, just thought of it. Pretty uncommon though.

I wouldn't worry about it - I understand the gist of your point. If MLG's calling in life is to dredge up facts so that he can point out why things aren't literally true, fair play to him. But lets not pretend that this is anything but menial work requiring minimal skill and makes MLG little more than a glorified coolie or waste-handler. I can't remember the last time MLG actually said something insightful about the club or provided some analysis or explanation that made me think; but there are tons of other posters on here who, notwithstanding the occasional slip, do that on a routine basis.

Hmmm I wonder what that team would cost to buy now. With silly money sloshing around as it is I think it wouldn't be far off the £100m mark. Bale would fetch the most.

Yes indeed

FA Youth Cup Final First Leg. St Marys Stadium. 18 April 2005. http://www.footballforums.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-86048.html

That team would do ok in the Prem today.

Does anyone know what happened to some of the guys who didn't "make it" as such?

The fact that we seem very adept at bringing through attacking talent is brilliant, as this is in all honesty where the big money moves happen.

When you look at the riches that we have had available to us in respect to bringing through youth talent. you could add Bridge, Surman, Mills (Matt) to that list and you would have a very good team.

Yes defensively the team you have pasted up there is pretty weak but wouldn't require too much strengthening to be a half decent force.

Thank You for that. I know what I said wasn't literally true, but I'm glad to see you got my general point, which was basically what a great little team it was. I come on here to get away from pedants, so he has gone on my ignore list.

There's also a Sebastian Kehl, a Sebastian Abreu and a Sebastian Squillaci :)

Referring back to the match first posted about, the Ipswich goalie that day was called Shane Supple... what a great name for a goalie :-)

Unfortunately, he didn't make it (from Wiki):

Retirement from soccer

On 20 August 2009, Ipswich Town announced that they had agreed to cancel Shane Supple's contract at the request of the player, allowing him to pursue a career outside professional soccer.[4] He said that he had "fallen out of love with the game" and wished to pursue a different career path. His desire to play Gaelic football with the Dublin county team was a major motivating factor.

This one,

Niemi, Telfer, Lundekvam, Higginbotham, Bernard, Prutton, Redknapp, Quashie, Le Saux, Camara, Ormerod.?

Bar Niemi, That was such a bad team really, no wonder we went down.

I don't think Quashie plays football anymore either, and he was arguably our better player after Anti in that team.
