I really hope this is a case of the Echo over-dramatising and he is not in as serious a condition as they suggest, if that is the case then horrible horrible news

I think the phrase "potentially life threatening" implies they are not overstating the seriousness of the incident. You can add "serious head injuries" to that.

Awful thing to happen, but what was he doing out at 3am? Drowning his sorrows after realising he's lost his place in the team?

That has nothing to do with it, no game for 9 days can't see the lad being drunk, there is to much of this sort of thing going on now, hope he makes a full recovery.

Scary stuff.

Just driven up London Road on my way to Waitrose and saw all the tape and police milling around. First thoughts were some sort of robbery, but having seen this thread it's obvious it's related to this incident.

Hope the lad pulls through OK.

Jesus. Horrible news. Get well soon Dan.

(FYI - there's nothing in that story that says it was the bouncers. People need to be careful what they say without substantiation.)

I'm pretty sure there's been a rewrite since the earlier version which was when it was just "a man", as opposed to someone we're familiar with, which mentioned the bouncers.

I could see him being quite drunk, but that's neither here nor there.

Best wishes to Dan, that's terrible news

You would suggest a head injury of that magnitude will stop him from heading a ball for quite a while, so could be career threatening if not life threatening

Bloody hell, that's awful news. Best wishes to Dan for a full recovery.

9 Months ago, a mate of mine was thrown down some steps by bouncers. He still sufferes double vision, headaches & is unable to drive, the tragic thing is he was totally innocent & was just walking past a scuffle.

Sadly I fear DS will not play again this season.

My thoughts are with his family and I hope that he makes a complete recovery.

As for the Echo scum and their totally insensitive reporting in the last couple of paragraphs, well, it really does beggar belief. They truly are the gutter press.

When the Echo reported on a friend of mine who was involved in a massive car accident on the M27 about three years ago, they used exactly the same wording - 'fighting for life' and 'serious head injuries'. They weren't being over-dramatic either. He was in a coma for two weeks, spent the next two months in hospital, has had all kinds of rehab treatment, and still to this day he is unable to return to work full-time and probably never will.

I certainly hope that Dan Seaborne's condition is not as serious as my friend's was, but if it is then we should prepare for the eventuality that he will never play again.

Best wishes and get well soon Dan. My sympathy is with your family and friends at this time.

It could easily be life threatening, my mum is on intensive care in Southampton at the moment and the bloke next to her is in a serious condition because he fell off a ladder trying to get into his own house as he'd locked himself out. Only fell a few feet and landed on his head. My old neighbour fell over and cracked his head on a curb stone and it was touch and go for about 3 weeks.

*If* it is the bouncers, I hope it's on CCTV and the thick lunk goes down.

Get well soon Dan

That echo report says nothing about bouncers being involved.

It did before a rewrite which added the bit about police appealing for witnesses and the scene this morning.

#Saintsfc defender Dan Seaborne now described as in "serious but stable" condition in hospital. Reports of an attack outside Junk nightclub

Glad to hear it's not as bad as 'life threatening'

The Echo report last two paragraphs are disgracefully insensitive and totally inappropriate. I've asked they be removed. Get back and well soon Dan.

Wholeheartedly agree.

This is terrible for the lad. Serious head injuries for a centre back could mean that his career is over. I just hope there is no brain damage and any bone damage eventually repairs and he can get back to playing in the fullness of time. May God be with you Dan.

Echo have now removed the reference to 'an assault on the Championship' in the last paras. What sort of cretin sub ed let through in the first place?

I am reliably informed that they don't have sub eds.

My first thoughts are with Dan Seaborne and I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery.

My 2nd thought are why, after the Barnard incident, players insist on frequenting night-clubs in city centres.

I think in this day and age with wages what they are, any aspiring professional should keep well away and the club should enforce that bann and it should be in their contract.

My 3rd thought was the Echo were incredibly insensitive with their reporting on this.

I can see what you're saying, but I think it's an unrealistic expectation. These are young men. Most young men like to go out on the sauce from time to time. No night out should end like this; it shouldn't happen to anyone. It's unfortunate that it was him, it would be unfortunate whoever it was.

Best wishes to the lad.

Hope they get the people responsible too - no excuses for incidents like this.

What's the point, they'll only get a slap on the wrist. There is no true justice anymore.
