Thanks for sharing that Considering they're our next visitors to SMS, I'd have thought it was of interest to most tbf. If it's not of interest to you, don't look at the thread or comment. ribbo Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 it was always going to be difficult for him to replace direct Davies, especially with the board inplace at forest, hopefully he'll go back abroad and start winning trophies again and not do a Peter Taylor. More English coaches/players/managers need to go abroad.
saintbletch Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Unhappy with lack of support in transfer window apparently. Great timing for us to play them with this going on. COYR. Saw him after they just lost 4-1 to West Ham at home. He seemed at a loss to explain what he thought had gone wrong. He settled on the fact that they couldn't defend very well and said that the board now had to show some ambition and buy him some new players as his current lot weren't good enough. I thought at the time that he must be planning a lot of activity in the transfer window and that if he didn't he would have alienated his current squad. Looks like he's alienated his current squad. Legod Third Coming Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Hahahaha! Did anyone watch their cup game when they should have lost?? Going into extra time he comes out with this board with magnets on and starts moving them around to show the players the tactics he wants... The man is a clown, first rate. I hope he stays at Forrest for this weekend mind!

Legod Third Coming Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 I can't wait for Adkins to do this so you realise the use of tactics boards is quite widespread in football... No, no, I get it. It was the way he brought it out to this huddle of players who had run ragged for 95 minutes and were then looking at another 30, and the looks of complete bemusement on their faces... While the Oppo manager went around motivating his players, putting an arm around some, whispering in the ears of others and doing what we used to call 'football management'... Greenridge Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Seems the Board haven't supported him in transfer dealings the same way they didn't support Davies before him.
Frank's cousin Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Seems the Board haven't supported him in transfer dealings the same way they didn't support Davies before him. Well... maybe they cant afford it and refuse to due a Leicester/Pompey and risk everything in a mountain of debt? Although I can undersatnd its frustrtaing for any manager... tehir job is to get the best from what they have and build a solid team spirit that is always worth a few points... I always get a bit ****ed off with managers (and fans) to be honest that constantly bleet of teh lack of big spending - that is life for many clubs that dont want to cheat. Its actually, in some ways refreshing to see some clubs live by financial restrictions, rather than see the Leicester Pompey approach which never leads to long term stability or success... Doctoroncall Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Seems the Board haven't supported him in transfer dealings the same way they didn't support Davies before him. He's brought in five players and shifted seven. He seems to be a manager than is inflexible with working with what he's got and doesn't know how to fix things. dellboypete Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Seems the Board haven't supported him in transfer dealings the same way they didn't support Davies before him. This seems to be the crux of the problem. There is a long article on the back page of the Times today about it. Davies was sacked because he kept complaining about the lack of investent and its seems mcclaren will go the same way. It says that in the current transfer window nine players have left while two came in for a total of £"m.They also put in a bid for max gradel - half of what leeds valued him. I actually rate mclaren very highly as a coach, but clearly his management skills leave something to be desired.

SaintRobbie Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 To be honest this has just made my mind up as I've never been sure that Adkins is at his best against experienced managers, yet. So, it'll now be a Saints win!! Bet on…!

Its actually' date=' in some ways refreshing to see some clubs live by financial restrictions, rather than see the Leicester Pompey approach which never leads to long term stability or success...[/quote'] Forest have always been a little behind the times financially, I remember in the mid-90s everyone else was floating on the stock exchange to raise funds (for the club as well as the directors ) and they had an archaic committee structure that meant they couldn't do anything of the sort - the influx of top european talent came in funded by the new money in football (Forest had Roy, Silenzi and van Hooijdonk at various points nevertheless) and they went from being competitive in the Prem to getting relegated practically overnight. They've changed the structure now, but that small-town club mentality hasn't really left them despite the two European Cup wins from over 30 years ago and they've never been a big-spending club - maybe McClaren was expecting another Steve Gibson backing him ? If they don't...... Personally I agree with you I 'd rather people didn't gamble with my club.
