Anyone hear Bournemouth's fans forum on Solent tonight ?

According to Tony Husband's twitter Mitchell told unhappy fans that they should go and watch Southampton

Was asked to retract comment by upset little Cherries but Husband doesnt say wether he did or not !!

What a grade A cock ! Thats like Cortese telling us to support the skates !

He may have in effect 'saved' them but they would be better of getting rid, while they have that small attitude they will never progress to their potential.

A 'them and us' attitude will only ever be damaging. Personally my fingers are crossed that they'll get over their current traumas.

Did he retract the comment ?

Don't know, only heard a bit on way to the gym. He was all over the place, saying that they had 1.4mil in the bank but that didn't want to over spend and see the club back in the sh!t.

He did indeed apologise, though this was not accepted by the woman he said it to. To be honest, the woman came across as very annoying and acted like some of the billy big b*llcks fans that used to hang around on our old forums. She properly milked it and had people cheering behind her and they then talked over his answers.

They need to remember where they are, where they WERE, and who they are. Having worked at the Club, I can tell you for a fact their fans are a strange bunch. If you listen to the programme on iPlayer, you will even hear a fan of 40 years say that his own fans are fickle - a claim which no one disputed. They had a kit launch the season before last, with first team players in store, and two fans turned up. Ridiculous. That was when they were near to the top of League Two.

Advice that should be given to a lot of fans in general, not just the Cherries.

Sorry, it fooled me as well, as it is labelled as "BBC Radio Solent Cherries Fans Forum Live from Dean Court". Blame the BBC!

I would guess it will be put on the local BBC website at some point tomorrow.

Whichever way you look at it, that is a shocking thing for a chairman to say.

Maybe he is trying to get back in favour with Nasty Nic - he will claim that any improvement in our average attendances are down to thousands of hacked off cherries rather than because of the fantastic football we are serving up!

Then maybe Nic will let him off his bar bill and maybe even invite him up to watch some decent football in a decent ground with a decent atmosphere!!

Or maybe he is just a total prat!!

Mitchell came across as a yob and I'm just glad we got proper businessmen running our club. The story from a local down there is that they call him Edward the 7th, something to do with the amount of times his companies have gone to the wall owing loads of local businesses and subbies money, all a rumour of course. Also, on Solent news this morning they wouldn't read out a tweet from a Burnley player as it being too sensitive, Mitchell made all sorts of disparaging remarks about some departed players. If managers lose the dressing room then this Chairman has certainly gone a long way to losing the fans.

Losing a half decent manager, losing a lot of matches and selling all your half decent players will also help with this.

It's an intresting one. Yes the guy is an arse (I listened to some of it last night) but some people need to remember where bournemouth were before he came in.

They have very nearly been closed down about 3 times and since he has been there they have been promoted (Vey nearly twice) and now have financially stability. Wouldnt want him anywhere near my club, but few fans could argue against the fact they are in a better position now than before he took over.

I think a lot of the problem is, as he did with this transfer window, he says barely 24 hours before the window shuts that nobody will be leaving or arriving at Dean Court then before the ink is dry on that story someone has gone, in this case Feeney.

Once is excusable but this is at least the third time he has done it....and that doesnt include the Eddie Howe debacle.

He's Bompey's Rupey Baby.

Simple. Needs a strong PR person to deal with the media.

Seems like he has strong business principles...but a complete misreading of how his paying public feels. It was fun to listen to though...reminded me of our old Forum and Shareholder meetings with Rupey..

To be fair, I'm not sure we'll be able to fit all the Cherries fans into SMS when we promote back into the Premiership, but of course quite a few will start to come again when we do, just like they always used to. :)

...there's always a few poor misguided souls ;)

Being a Bmth fan - I just can't imagine cheering for a town / city you're not from, it would just be weird. But it's just gloryhunting really, for people with no moral fibre..we all have too many people in both Bmth amd Soton with Chelski/United shirts on.

Mitchell - god knows what will happen. Yes, we have some money in the bank, but there has to be a balance, after all the football side of things is what its all about.

With Steve Lovell retiring, we only have Cooper and Pugh left from the team last year. You and Brighton going well...a year is a very long time in football :scared:

When you get time listen to the whole programme, he may come across as a clown but fundamently he talks sense. ie live within your means!

Yes, but he was very unprofessional about it. He seemed to lose his rag with the supporters and undermined his manager somewhat.

I've just listened to the whole broadcast! Feking amusing!

That woman 'Sarah'. I have a picture of her in my head which is probably very close to the truth. She sounds like a jumped-up little b-tch!

Ok, so telling your fans to go and support a bigger, better and more prominent club is probably not the wisest thing to do but I have a lot of sympathy for Mitchell. Why is it that some people just can not understand that if the money is not there then it can not be spent? Why should he get all the flak for actually sorting out the club's long-term future even if it does mean slipping down the league? It beggars belief, it really does and just goes to show that a lot of fans (of all clubs) are just plain thick as two short planks. It is also really, really rude to slag off a man who has worked tirelessly without pay to help the club. I guess ultimately it comes down to an issue of class - or perceived injustice. Here is a wealthy man, done alright for himself and these pond-life fans think they are entitled to all his money. It is a wonder anyone would actually want to take a huge financial punt on a lower league club at all.

Good to see you are still about Simon :)

Mitchell isn't that bad, he has never been on the front cover of one of their match day programmes AFAIK, now that is unforgiveable.

Why have people got such a hang up about NC being on the cover of the programme for the first game of a new season? I don't get it.

What it said to me was "here we are at the start of an exciting new season, everyone is on the bus and pulling in the same direction and we are unified and I (NC) am leading us forward."

I liked it. Made me feel proud.

Did it sound anything like this from years ago?

Ratner:- We sell bracelets that will last about as long as a prawn sandwich from M&S (This bankrupted the jewelry chain)

LOL. What a muppet that guy is. He is right about clubs living within their means, but all he is going to do is alienate the fanbase, equalling less bums on seats, which means less ££££ in the future. The simple fool

Sarcasm I think!

Yep still keeping the chin up!..

..trying to ignore the patronising smug posts like the one above. I think the downright abuse that Pompey get is easier to deal with, rather than the sarcasm ;)

God knows what will happen with Mitchell. He needs to get us just a couple more players...and a PR man!

It is trune about his 7 firms, his six previous ones have gone bust. Another rumour is he has also trademarked eight construction. This has come from someone very involved in Dorchester Town his preious football club.

Quote in the Sunday Mirror today (in the Notts County-Bournemouth match report) says the Bournemouth chairman had told fans "[if they didn't like the way the club was being run] to go support fierce local rivals Southampton." LOL

Yeah, LOL, "fierce local rivals"...there go my sides...:chortle:

Agree with that - he didn't do himself any favours by being so defensive and constantly referring to Bournemouth as 'you'. If he can't manage to do that then he'd be better off not doing events like that in the future.

A (small) part of me does sympathise with him in terms of departures. It seems (from a distance) like there has been a mass exodus of players following Howe out of the door and Mitchell + Bradbury have been left to take the flak.

The bloke is an absolute Arse!

He is, but his fundamental message is right although the Bournemouth fan base don't want to hear it. I think that the problem is that their relative success of the last couple of years has led them to believe that, as a club, they are much better than they actually are. The truth is that they do not have the size of fan base that will sustain the kind of expenditure that they want. Mitchell, arse though he may be, knows that they have to stay viable by letting their best players go - hopefully for decent fees. Cherries fans really have to ask themselves - do they want a burst of glory then no club? or bounce about in leagues one and two but with a club that is financially viable? If I were a Cherries fan I know what I would opt for. Whether I would want Mitchell as chairman is another question - but at least he has restored some financial stability. They really do need to remember where they were not so very long ago.

I love these Fans Forums - just hilarious listening to some fans getting so worked up about different things. You can hear the anger that WE HAVEN'T SPENT THE MONEY, AND WHY HAVEN'T WE SPENT THE MONEY BECAUSE SPENDING MONEY IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IN FOOTBALL AND IF WE DON'T SPEND THE MONEY THEN WE ARE A DISGRACE, AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE I TELL YOU.....:@)

I feel a little bit sorry for Eddie Mitchell, but only a little bit. He doesn't deserve to get so much grief for Cherries fans, but at the end of the day he was the one who decided to use the local paper to mouth off about Saints originally, and so he's made himself a target. He has to live with that.

Whatever your views are about Nicola Cortese, the one thing you have to say is that his use of the media has been first class since he came to the club.

I don't doubt Eddie Mitchell's desire to get things right at Bournemouth, but he needs to have a good look at himself - when he said on the forum that he wasn't the man to talk about figures when he is the chairman, you are asking for trouble.

mmmmm South coast club? I think NC struggled in the early days with the press but he's getting better at it all the time
