Everton bid for Lallana

I have it from someone who was sat with Brian Howard last night, that he got one of two offers of loans. One from Barnsley and a precautionary one from us, after Everton made a last ditch bid for Llalana. For those that know the area, Howard is a regular in the Totton&Eling club, especially on deadline day, and that was where he took the call from his agent last night. Obviously it came to noothing and the Toffees were prob panic bidding after losing Arteta, and no doubt it was a straight No from Cortese, but thats what happened!

Lets just hope his head isn't turned in January. I'm pretty sure the club wouldn't sell so it's really up to Adam. One thing which would help is if we're still challenging for promotion. I'm sure he'd love to play in the prem for us first and foremost. But there is only so long a player of his calibre can wait

Phil Jagielka.

Joleon Lescott.

Jags had had a season in the Prem with Sheff Utd and performed very well and stood out - that wasn't Moyes signing a 'good Championship player' as he had at least a full season of Prem experience. Hadn't Lescott played in the Prem too with Wolves (although that may have been the season he was injured)?

You can't be more definitive than that.

If an Everton fan said something about Everton's supposed transfer behaviour, well, it must be true.

Moyes certainly knows a good championship player when he sees one.

He knows the foreign market well and is not very good when it comes to strikers bizarrely.

Everton are in the doo doo financial. They have sold their training ground for £9m which went straight to the bank who have capped their overdraft at £25m (that sounds familiar) and have only brought in two loans this year, an Argentinian attacker which Sven rejected at Leicester when on trial there and a winger Drenthe from Real Madrid.

Most of the Everton fans I know (OK that isn't many) are happy with the £10m deal for Arteta, who hasn't been the same since coming back from his long term injury and at £75k a week have got the highest eaner off the books. Incidently, Arteta has taken a £10k pay cut to go to Arsenal.

I'm glad Lallana is staying and hope we can keep hold of him even when Saints are in the PL.

If Cortese and/or Adkins withheld news of this supposed approach from Lallana, here's hoping he doesn't get the hump that they didn't run it by him. Assuming that's what happened of course.

I'm sure he would have known (even via agents and other conduits) and also sure NA and NC would realise he would at some point find out, so can't believe they would have hidden it from him.

Big story for me if we, or he, or both turned Everton down, as I think Lallana makes us tick.

I also have it on good authority that Everton, Newcastle and Fulham approached Lallana in December/January just before he signed his new contract with the view of offering him a contract whn his old deal expired.

He thought enough of them enquiries by signing his new Saints contract days later.

He is a Bournemouth fan so most of this thread is probably ********

IF he leaves, its going to be to a club bigger than Everton.

I have always wondered why the think they are so "big". Its to do with that Scouse self-pity thing again, I reckon.

I think they are a big club

It's that age old argument - what makes a "big" club? Is it amount of honours won, size of club, size of crowds, amount of revenue / turnover, etc etc. Everton have won honours, but all of them well in the past, and they don't look like they are anywhere near breaking into the top 4 or 5. If Lallana has ambitions to be a top, top player, then he would be looking for champo league footie, and that means manure, chelsk, manc, @rse, potentially liverpool & spuds.

Everton are mid table prem side and if they're not careful, they could turn into a lower prem side.

Ask Rooney why he left them at the tender age of 17/18.

As for Adam, at some stage he will want prem footy. Here's hoping it will be with us in the very near future.

Quite, Everton were one of the Big Five in the 80s, but that was when they were winning things. By 1994 they were struggling to stay in the Premier League, they don't have a worldwide fanbase like other "Big Five" members Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal and to a lesser extent Spurs, and they've won sod all in the last 30 years. They are probably a smaller club than Chelsea, Man City, Villa and Newcastle now, on a par with someone like Sunderland who get much bigger crowds though they're slightly less successful. Probably still bigger than Fulham and definitely Bolton and Wigan though. I have no idea what my criteria for this is...

Bill Kenwright was always banging on about how skint they were a couple of years ago and they haven't attracted any investment since. In fact their Academy, with the likes of Rodwell and now Barkley is probably keeping them afloat.

It would be a surprise to see Everton relegated, but they've had a few goes, and bigger clubs have gone down.

Quite odd that he used to wear Everton replica shirts when he was 14/15 then..

My friends went to school with him and played football with him and have always said he was a saints fan. I believe he has even said the same

I take it you have photographic evidence of him at 14 wearing an Everton shirt?

I am told Adam would have been told if it was true. He knows nothing. How did Brian Howard know then?

How did Brian Howard know about Brian Howard or about Adam Lallana ?

Either way the answer is that sometimes the approached club dismisses it out of hand and sometimes they tell the player.

He didn't hear about it,but other players did? Possible, but surely unlikely?

Sounds unlikely to me too, where was it said other players heard about it ? There's always a bit of Chinese whispers with these kind of things anyway, Lallana would know if he had or hadn't heard directly, whilst others may have only heard something from someone who heard something from someone which may or may not have been true...

I should think any kid who likes football or footbal shirts has a variety of different club shirts. I had an Everton one myself when they were good, and a Chelsea away kit when they weren't. I don't support either.

Thats because your clealry not a real fan, before the age of 25 I had never worn anything but a saints replica kit, unless of course it was a side I was playing for which may or may not explain the picture of me in primary school wearing a liverpool shirt.

Lol it teams think we would consider selling lallana!

Look how long it took to agree on ox sale, the big teams would've taken note of what it takes to prise away talent from "new" saints now!

If the big teams think they could buy our best player then good luck to them. This is where having someone like the don running the ship allows me to rest easy...

I also collect football shirts. FWIW I wasn't a Saints fan til I was 18, after my home town club went bankrupt.

I used to be an Everton fan until 1992 when I realised that I'm from Southampton and should be a Saints fan. There are pictures of me in an Everton shirt with an Everton mug. All of this doesn't matter of course as I slipped through the net. Thank christ, as those pictures would have come back to bite me if I did make it.
