Why don't we grow our own Jay Rodriguez or Martyn Waghorn? What's Sinclair like? It's been a year since AOC, we must be due another wonderkid any day now.

Jake Sinclair is the real deal. Cant wait for him to break through, although I reckon he will be handled carefully.

Sinclair is quality, but keep an eye on Ward-Prowse. I don't think it's long before he's the next big thing, he's incredibly gifted. a CM with great technique.

I don't like to say Stephens because we nicked him from Plymouth, but he will be first choice RB before long. Class act.

The one Arsene is after as well O.o Wenger really loves his little feeder club doesn't he? Tosser.

Well I hope he's learned his lesson that our players don't come cheap - nay they nearly get you the sack. Oxo is about ten years away from being his best - that means he is not going to be a complete player until the early 2020's, the Arsenal fans will have to learn that. Getting back to the Premiership is both a good thing and a bad thing - it means we can keep our own talented youngsters from the big boys but they will get little game time.

Aarran Racine is a name I've been seemingly hearing for a long time, what's he like?

Cause they never want to stay more than one season (Adam excepted). Much easier just to get back to the PL and steal other clubs promising youngsters....

Tall, commanding, confident and reasonably mobile. Will certainly be able to make a pro career for himself.... but he is becoming a little old to make a breakthrough.

  • 4 weeks later...

About 9 months ago didn't they have a bit of a hard turf out of some of those lads who were hailed as the next best thing since the invention of fire only 2 years ago? I thought at the time our academy is taking things very seriously again.

It will be very interesting when Fifa eventually force the number of home grown players in a team on the top leagues in Europe, just as long as they don't have the get out of being able to graze clubs like ours at will......................... or is that what is behind the big Man City plans announced last week?

In fairness we have in our academy side, this year, 5 or 6 players who are VERY good and all have a good chance of making the first team, maybe even towards the end of this year.

Jack Stephens - Defender (signed from Plymouth last year)

Luke Shaw - Left-back (made the bench v PNE)

Corby Moore - Midfielder

James Ward-Prowse - Midfielder (like Shaw made the bench v PNE and was last season playing for England a year above his age-group)

Jake Sinclair - Forward (younger brother of Scott, seems to be on a scoring run at the moment)

Also, Lloyd Isgrove - Winger (I know not academy, more development squad, but this lad is class. Although small in build, he's quick, agile, can put in a cross and can dribble. Has given the fullbacks complete run arounds everytime I've seen him play

Hope that helps

This is a similar scenario to the one that Lawrie Mc Menemy had in the early 80's. Of course he signed up a lot of Engalnd /and former internationals. Mick Channon was already an regular international, but it really started with the earlier signing of Alan Ball (first time) and teenage Steve Williams found himself playing alongside his schoolboy hero (from Arsenal). Other youth team players like Hebberd, Waldron, and Graham Baker found themselves in a side with Charlie George and England CH Dave Watson. We'd already had the hot shot duo of Boyer and MacDougall, then came the legendary signing of Keegan, and Steve Moran (then only 19) scored 18 goals in his fírst season playing inside forward beside Keegan and Channon.

The signing of England keeper Peter Shilton and full back Mick Mills became part of the famous FIVE England captains squad we had in those days, and the youngsters kept coming.... Mark Wright, David Puckett, and Reuben Agboola.

The additional signings of Joe Jordan, David Armstrong only continued the formula as Lawrie Mac. signed more experienced players at the same time as he continued introducing more youngsters like Danny Wallace and George Lawrence.

APOLOGIES FOR THE NOSTALGIA, but the point is these youngsters gained enormous confidence from playing alongside these legendary names and certainly played well above themselves in order to keep their places.

Now that we have seen Saints as the best side in L1 ...and now top of the CCC, even at this level the confidence must be sky-high and the clubs mindset is so fixed that new players coming in will really benefit from playing alongside the more experienced. Of course we're not talking about international players in the first team squad, but I expect to see more than a few of these lads coming into the squad before long and getting themselves accustomed to first team football alongside some of the best players OUTSIDE of the Prem.

We've seen the likes of Walcott, Bale and Alex OC making the big time - even at 16 -17 years old. Don't think there aren't more to come.
