Minsk Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Now that we are 5 games into the season, and the transfer window has closed, where do you see Saints finishing this season? 1. Automatic Promotion (Top 2) 2. Play-offs (3-6) 3. Top Half (7-12) 4. Mid to Bottom (13-17) 5. Flirting with relegation (18-21) 6. Relegated (22-24) Before the season started I said 7th-12th, and that is where I still think we will finish.
surrey1saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 (edited) 2,3 or 4. Playoffs to 17th. Edited 1 September, 2011 by surrey1saint
The9 Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Around 5th place, which is what I said when we signed De Ridder. Can't say Fox or Hooiveld have changed my opinion much, though some of our performances revised it upwards for a little while...
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I will stick with my prediction of play offs. Think there was only a couple of other like minded posters in the poll before the season started.
speed demon Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I think we're better than mid table - I would have said play-offs.
Colinjb Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 3. For me. Would be delighted with that in our first season back in the Championship.
revolution saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 7th - 12th which I think is pretty good.
alpine_saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 1. Automatic Promotion (Top 2) 2. Play-offs (3-6) 3. Top Half (7-12) 4. Mid to Bottom (13-17) 5. Flirting with relegation (18-21) 6. Relegated (22-24) As has been said on here, we are a couple of injuries away from a real problem. Would also be happy with this.
Vershinin Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Top 4. One of my best mates is a hammers fan and on some of their forums, they reckon its between Saints, Hammers and Brighton for top 2. They feel that other teams lack the spirit/skill and have no ****ing idea what they are doing. I see no reason why we can't finish in the top 4. I think a lot of teams will be quite close at the end, all taking points off each other throughout the season. How we play against the likes of West Ham, Brighton, Leicester, Boro, Birmingham will define our season. Do well, i think we've got a good chance of going up. Not do so well, 6th place.
West End Saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I think we are good enough to win it however it is a very tough league & West Ham & Liecester have spent big on good players so I think play offs. Still think this is most competative league in Europe & can see it being very tight from middle to top but IF we can keep playing the way we are we must have a chance I know it is a big ask to keep your form all season but Brighton did it last season until guaranteed promotion.
Junior Mullet Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Playoffs. We have got the best attacking unit in the league and the best attacking individual in Lallana. Our only achilles heal is the LCB slot.
sussexsaint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Playoffs having flirted with auto slots all season. We have a very very good team.
Saint Garrett Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 WHU have got to win the league IMO or Allardyce has done a bad job. Leicester will be up there obviously, I think they will use our game as a bit of a springboard. Other than that though I'm not sure. I think we might jsut scrape into the playoffs but we will have to see.
Foxstone Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Reckon we will be automatic promotion with West Ham... Leicester/Boro/Burnley/Brighton for play offs
OldNick Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 lets hope we get some new players in the Jan window. My head says 7-12 my heart top 4. Poyet has yet again played the transfer window well. Brighton WHU , Leicester are threats
Son of Bob Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 My prediction pre-season was 8th to 10th and I still stand by that. For the sake of the 'poll' I guess that makes me a 7th to 12th.
St Marco Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 With the squad we got and the money we have spent adding to it this summer (Ridder 500k - Fox 1.8m - Cork £1m ish) we should be higher rather then lower. I think we have a top 6 team by far and expect us to be in the playoffs. In terms of improving in the window though i think we have slipped down quite a bit, as Nick mentions above Brighton have added some quality to their side as have West Ham and Leicester. If we had got Gorkks we would of had a very strong side and maybe could of competed for the 2 auto slots. But who knows maybe we will get in someone on loan that could make a difference.
Brussels Saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Still play-offs for me. As Alps mentions though, I think a long injury to Lambert, Lallana or Fonte, would see us drop to 7-12.
westofshannonsaint Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I'd be happy with 7th/fighting for a playoff spot. playoff's are achievable.
SNSUN Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 My cup's half full - I think we have the quality to finish in the play-offs. We will certainly be fighting for it. Ask again on February 1st though, I feel January will be an interesting month...
martyg1950 Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Top 2, based on the potential of this squad and the performance demonstrated so far.
gammon cheeks Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 if we stay clear on injurys to connolly and llanna and add a quality striker , i can see us getting automatic promotion
Aardvark Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I have it on good authority that we are going to finish 17th. So I've put my house on it.
david in sweden Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Around 5th place, which is what I said when we signed De Ridder. Can't say Fox or Hooiveld have changed my opinion much, though some of our performances revised it upwards for a little while... Wow!... you really are a prophet ...The 9. Hooiveld was signed LAST NIGHT, and De Ridder has had a couple of quite good games, whilst Fox has been sub..(twice)? surely the time to judge them would be after they've played a dozen or so games and settled in a bit. I think the current squad...(even without; Jay Rod, Beckford, and Uncle Tom Cobley)..is good enough to go for automatic promotion. Although we will undoubtedly sign some more after the New Year.

Errr, that would be why I didn't think they've changed my opinion much. I haven't seen Fox kick a ball for us yet, nor obviously Hooiveld, and De Ridder has looked amazing half the times I've seen him and a little out of position up front the others, but enough to make a judgement on him as an attacking player - if not defensively. He looks potentially excellent. Also, the whole point of this thread is to make predictions, so I'm not quite sure why the specific criticism of me.
S-Clarke Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 In and around the play-offs. Between 5th -9th IMO. Automatic promotion is going to be very difficult, be realistic. Anyone expecting that is going to have a very frustrating season, we really shouldn't pin all our hopes on that - we've just been promoted to this league! We can give it a go to get up, no doubt about that, and I expect us to compete, but what Norwich did was a freak thing in a weaker league - It'll be hard for us to do it. Will be interesting to see where we are in January, that window could be important.
sotonian Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 With so many evenly based teams, it's difficult to predict, but I think were better than half the teams in this league, so I'll go for top 10, we may just scrape into the play offs
1976_Child Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 with this squad and the fact that we failed to get Messi in the window, I've got to say rock bottom. With Messi we would ave finished top, defo.
Dalek2003 Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 Around 17th, but comfortable ie not in the relegation battle.
doddisalegend Posted 1 September, 2011 Posted 1 September, 2011 I said mid to top half before the season started. After the start we've had I'm starting to think play offs. Who knows? so far the champ teams we've played haven't been as good as I thought they would be.
