Which striker could you realistically see us getting on the Bus next week?

For me, here's a few wishful/realistic signings;

Fuller (Stoke) - Due to Crouch & Jerome coming in.

Jackson (Norwich) - Never starts for Norwich.

Eccleston (Liverpool) - As they have Carroll, Bellamy, Suarez & Kuyt.

Not sure - just hope to be surprised - but a decent sriker could really help a top 6 push after our great start and to be fair to pay 6m for Maynard at this stage of his contract woud have been crazy. And Jay-Rod obviously wants (like Adam L) to stay at his home club.....(Kids might be at a local school, all his family there,etc......)

i also agree with Eccestone comming in, and yes Barnard will come back and tear a new one into pretty much every club he plays but we lack that pace up front.

We may lack pace upfront, but Lambert and Connolly have scored eight goals between them in all comps so far, and Lallana and Guly have been popping up with goals too.

I could well be wrong, but is it not just emergency loans that we can sign next week? And if that's the case, I can't see us getting anyone. I could well be wrong on this though?

Only emergency indeed so it will be because someone is injured, also Sibley said it's a 93 day loan we can have if we bring anyone in.

The problem with bringing in a loan from a premiership club is you have to agree to pay almost all of his wages which is where we come unstuck.

What about if Barnard ends up in jail? With Connolly's injury record, as brilliant as he is when fit, I'd say the chances of us getting a striker loan are very high. Jackson at Norwich and Pacheco at Liverpool (if some hasn't already nabbed him) would seem the obvious choices.

Why "obvious"? You've just plucked two names out of the hat, surely?

They are two that are well down the pecking order at their clubs and the latter was loaned to Norwich last season. Eccleston is another but I can't remember him really going great guns at Charlton although this was prior to Powell completely overhauling their entire squad. Peterborough, Hull and Carlisle seem to have first call on Man U's top youngsters. Harry Kane at Spurs could be on although it means dealing with Saggy but then he likes our Nigel. City let their fringe strikers out over the last 48 hours.

Emergency loans have nothing to do with players being injured. Anyone in the Football League can make them regardless of the health of their current squad. You are reading too much into the word "emergency".

You are confusing the Football League emergency loan window, with when a team outside the window (full transfer and loan window) is allowed in the case of an injured goalkeeper to bring in a keeper on loan. For example when Man City were given dispensation to sign keeper Marton Fulop outside of the transfer window (the Premier League doesn't have a separate incoming player loan window).

I'd like to see us get some promising youngster, who would not be first choice, and know that, but want to prove himself, and get a season long loan organised with a view to a permanent deal thing thrown in too, so then he will have a season to ingratiate himself with the squad, and could be a long term replacement (in a perfect world) for Connolly for our promotion push next season.

Max of 93 day loan outside the main window.

It will be interesting to see what affect the 25man squad announcements have. Last season it made no difference, i think only Michael Kightly was omitted. There was talk yesterday that it might affect the premiership teams more this season which is why spurs let Bentley, Jenas etc.. go out on loan. Would be nice to get a forward in on loan that would improve our team. I think Man City will have a few that will not make the 25 but i don't think they will have a forward missing now they sold/loaned out 3 recently.

This question would be better answered on Friday at 5pm when we know what the Premiership 25 man squads are, but while Simeon Jackson would be the best shout, I expect he'll make their 25. Delfouneso is supposed to have loads of talent too. We do need a striker though, especially if we can get a young one "with a view to a permanent" if they're successful. Connolly is doing well, and even though his injury problems seem behind him, he's 34 and I wonder if he'll get through a season. Barnard faces an uncertain future too in the court, so a lot of pressure is heaped on Lambert's shoulders.

Would I take Beatts on a free? Yes, if the wages were right, but I still think he'll get a quick deal to Swansea or somewhere at the bottom of the Premiership. Blackburn again perhaps.

EDIT: The other Norwich striker that I don't think will make the 25 is Chris Martin, another who could definitely DAJFU.

Won't get any PL youngsters, as they can keep them in addition to their 25 limit. We used to use loans from the nPC, but I can't see anybody loaning us anybody we would want now. And I would expect any PL manager to want some kind of assurance from us about game time, and I'm not sure Nigel would give them that at the moment. I'm not even sure we could offer bench time at the moment with the new limit. So, personally, I'm not expecting anybody.

Delfouneso's attitude is very poor. As soon as he played a few times for Villa, he thought he had made it. I can't see him wanting to drop out of the prem or take any sort of wage cut. I think he has the potential to be another Puncheon, albeit on much higher wages.

Chris Martin is a good shout actually, if he get's frozen at Norwich, he is eaxctly the kind of young player with potential who could do a job here. If Afobe is nowhere near the team at Arsenal (which I imagine he isn't), he's another one who could do a decent job for us. It's that or 3-4 carling cup games for him otherwise.

I agree with some above, if we do get a loan, I would like it to be a young, hungry player, keen to make a name here and with the potential to progress.

The likes A. Johnson I don't think would fit in with the mentality that Adkins is trying to foster in the club

Stoke have been thwarted in their bid to sign Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku on loan because of Premier League rules.

Belgian Lukaku, 18, arrived at Stamford Bridge from Anderlecht in early August and made his Chelsea debut on Saturday.

But Premier League rule M 7.1 says: "A temporary transfer to a club may not take place in the transfer window in which the transferor club acquired the player's registration."

Saturday December 3rd from today then... but there isn't another league match for Saints until Sep 10th, so a player signed on Sep 9th would leave a gap of only 20 days in mid/late December (albeit a busy period and for us a time in which we visit Fratton) during which they weren't available to us before we could re-sign them on Jan 1st 2012.

Not really a concern.

Most of the players who didn't make the 25s were known a while in advance so teams were lining up to get them on loan. Bellamy and Woodgate didn't make it at Man City and Spurs respectively, although the latter was still injured.
