Forest build up thread

Quit Utd as assistant to join Boro as a manager. Quit Boro to join England. Pretty sure he quit one of his overseas jobs. Not sure if it was the German one or the Dutch one though.

Left Twente to go to Wolfsburg, where he was sacked. To be fair to him, the men behind the scenes at Wolfsburg had more of a say in the team than him and he struggled. As for Twente, it's a place the same of Cambridge and he won the title ahead of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. Not too shabby.

Larry Lloyd on Talksport this evening (Ex Forest & England) confirming the NF club committee is undermining the manager and saying "You've got to spend a million to stand still" and going on to state "the performances are not what we expect".

They've brought in Andy Reid and Ishmal Miller, but is far from happy with whats happening.

It could be a good time to play Forest next Saturday.

This will be interesting. I have a niggling doubt about Adkins against experienced managers, Maclaren is no fool (particularly if he leaves his umbrella behind). We should win easily… but I am in two minds on placing a bet to win on this after Sven confirmed my niggling doubt last Saturday!

sven was that 'experienced' that we totally dominated the second half against leicester, i don't think you need to worry about na after that performance albeit a loss.

RICHARDSON------FONTE------HOOIVELD------FOX

GULY------SCHNEIDERLIN------CORK-------LALLANA

----------------LAMBERT------CONNOLLY----------

Subs: Bart, Harding, Seaborne, Hammond, De Ridder

Schneiderlin ahead of Hammond because I think Cork can do Hammond's job of tracking runs and breaking up play, and Schneiderlin is great creatively and can pick out an excellent pass. My main worry about this match is that Forest have Ishmael Miller up front for them now - he's a tricky bastard. Will be an interesting game! I reckon a 2-2 draw.

He didnt cause us any problems in pre season

The next 3 games are a big opportunity for us, we can put some real pressure on the other teams around us if we continue to play the "high tempo pass and move" football that we've shown so far this season..

We have 2 home games (and we have not dropped a point at home since Jan) followed by burnley away (howe always tries to play "mind games" with us but ends up losing).

While the other teams around us have more tricky games imo and I can see them dropping points :-

Seaweed - 2 tricky away games (bristol city & leicester) followed by the cloggers from Leeds at home (9 a side at the end ?)

Derby - 2 away games (local derbys) against coventry & forest followed by Millwall with their two lines of four in a defensive 4-4-2.

Boro - 2 away games (burnley & palace) followed by Ipswich at home.

W/ham - Cheats at home, followed by millwall away (2 very defensive sides) then a certain 3 points against P/boro.

Palace - Leeds away; Boro at home and Donny away.

Almost the team I would go with but put Martin back in due to his familiarity with the team and Morgan in for Hammond. I doubt Nigel would throw Hooiveld straight in but could see him coming on as a sub, also Morgan has been better for me then Hamster on the basis of the last few games, Hammond has been much better this year but is living off his performance v Leeds.

There is no way any of our fans should be thinking ''we should win this game easily''. What are we, real madrid or something? We've just been promoted and everyone expects us to be thrashing everyone for some reason. (teams like Forest who were in the top 6 last year ffs)

Winning most weeks for the last few years at a lower level, doesn't mean you will do it at a higher level. I'm pretty sure we'll loose more games this year than last year, as the oppo is at a totally different level. I have a feeling quite a few of our fans will struggle to adjust to this.

I think you're wrong.

First, a number of teams in this division have nothing like our resources. Chances are we have players earning considerably more than most of those at Blackpool, for example.

Second, of those teams that are equally matched with us financially (which I would suggest are West Ham, Leicester, Ipswich and Brighton), we have already proven that we are effectively a match for two of them (three if you think back to May).

Third, we boast quite possibly the league's best player (in Lallana) and players who have proven capability at this level - Davis, Fonte, Connolly, Cork - to name four.

Because we have been promoted from a lower division does not make us inferior - Norwich proved this conclusively last season and it's worth remembering that of the teams in the top flight - Man Citeh, Norwich, Fulham and Newcastle all arrived there from a spell in League One.

The key to winning most football matches at whatever level is first and foremost the confidence and belief among the players.

I predict we will win a high number of games, and will be promoted - or failing that fall just short. Where I do agree with you is that we should not expect to win any game easily - and in truth there's no such thing. Anyone who wins anything worked for it. On the pitch and the training ground.

Will be interesting to see how we respond to defeat, I am hoping that we do in a positive way, and that we do not lose are way. This is a big test, and I think we will bounce back with a very good win.

We won our last game.

Had an interesting chat with a mate of mine today who is a ST holder with BHA. After the predictable p1$$ taking about me getting a crick in my neck looking up the table at them he freel admitted, without any prompting from me, that they were extremely fortunate to be top at the moment (I told him it wouldn't last). He admitted they were VERY lucky to beat Doncaster after attempting to murder half their team (did you see those fouls ?), that if the Blackpool game had gone another 10 minutes they would have lost it and that despite beating Peterborough 2-0 they were far from convincing. Another mate who is a Portsmouth fan and ST holder also told me today that both teams were p1$$ poor during their game with BHA. So, what do our resident nesting seagulls have to say about all that ? Sensible replies only please. I thank you.

Davis

Richardson

Fonte

Martin

Fox

De Ridder

Morgan

Cork

Lallana

Lambert

Connolly

Certain impacts from the Leicester game can't be ignored.

Whilst I would not take issue with your selection there, I will be surprised if NA does not start with Hooiveld who is left footed ahead of Martin.

Guly was annomous at Leicester (IMO), and Fox was excellent when he came on, as was De Ridder. Perhaps a bit harsh on Harding and i'd be happy with either really. I think Guly's goal against Milwall gave him an extra chance, but De Ridder deserves a chance from the start as he's looked threatening in every appearance he's made.

That's Guly as frustrating as hell...... but just when he's getting on your tits he'll conjure up something from nothing.

Think Harding has shown poor positioning most the season TBF. Not always punished, but it's left us too open at times and IMO it's a matter of time (and defeats) before Fox makes the LB slot his own.

Step up Mr Harding.. welcome to the top spot of Saints latest "whipping boy"

Fox is better than Harding, and Guly is not a right winger.

HTH

The thing is I've seen Fox play for about 15mins, so I'm holding fire on how much better he is (I imagine at the price we'd payed for him he should be better). Guly isn't a winger you're right but we not really playing with traditional style wingers at the moment anyway, I prefer Guly off Lambert myself.

Well hopefully how much a player costs isn't Nigels first consideration when he picks the team.

I didn't say it was, however it is an clear indication that he is highly valued by the management. Championship clubs simply don't spend that amount on players they intend to be back up fullbacks, nor would Fox have joined if that were the case.

Again I would have hoped he would have been told it was a squad game and he'd have to prove himself if he wanted to play...

Adkins clearly wanted Fox a lot and believes he'll suit our game better than other targets and better than Harding/Dickson. I'm happy to go along with that, Fox has looked good when I've seen him for other teams at least. Also like having a decent left-footed set piece taker - makes us very dangerous from any angle.

By all accounts he was excellent when he came on at Leicester. I think Adkins wants us to have pacy/attacking wing backs long-term, which is why we're also linked with Clyne. Dan has been great for us, but I think Adkins is looking for more ''explosive'' pacy players. It'll make us an amazingly dangerous team on the break.

Do not be fooled by wages at Blackpool. Last time in this division they spent 160% of income on wages. I do not believe Kevin Phillips and Barry Ferguson are on less than any of our players.

Fox looked good precisely because Harding had done a good job wearing Pantsil down. I haven't seen Fox enough to draw any firm conclusions; but he seems to have a better cross on him than Harding who tends to check back or come inside. Don't know if Fox is necessarily quicker than Harding though.

Really? I thought it was widely known that they had a £10k a week limit in the Premiership? If that is true, they can't be on more now and I imagine we have players on well above 10K...

The Ref on Saturday is due to be Iain Williamson from Berkshire.

Not one of my favorites. He was the joke ref from the Sea-weed home game last season where he failed to see the trip on Adam, gave a penalty for a drive and generally allowed monkeyboy's team to get away with all sorts of south american 1970's tactics.

2010/11 v Sea-weed (H) Drew 0-0

2008/09 v Forest (H) Lost 0-2

2007/08 v Blackpool (H) Won 1-0

2006/07 v Brum (H) Won 4-3 & v Cardiff (H) Drew 2-2

2005/06 v southend (a) CC Won 0-3 ; Leeds (H) Lost 3-4; Watford (H) Lost 1-3

Is this the mid week Brum game when we raced into the lead to be pegged back and then hun on to win at the end and the infamous Leeds game where we were 3-0 up with less than 20 minutes to go?
