Beattie released from Rangers....

I'd imagine BT will be getting himself back down to Southampton whilst he finds himself a new club. As far as I know he has still got some good connections within the club. If I was him I'd be getting on the phone and asking if he could train with Saints. This would be win-win. Beattie gets to benefit from our facilities and getting himself fit and Adkins gets a chance to assess him first hand. Could be a useful player to have around if he proves himself to be hungry enough for it.

You might not be to far off the mark with this, lets just get the international break out of the way and see what happens.

I'd say give him a go, if pay and play contracts are a myth then give him a flat wage and a scoring / appearance bonus :) but then i think all players should be on that type of contract !!!

for those who think he'd be a waste isnt a certain overage Mr Phillips doing quite well at Blackpool??

We can't sign any decent players, let alone BT.

If we couldn't even sign Gorkss what makes everyone think we could sign BT, this clubs a joke.

Ambition, what ambition?

So we "can't" (debatable) sign an unwanted Championship clogger but we can sign a sought after England U21 player, a Dutch top flight team's player of the season and a highly rated player for circa 2m and that proves we're a joke? I think you're the joke you divvy bellend.

I wouldn't take him. I don't think he would fit the style of play that we are trying to play. He never had a great first touch and that is obviously importantto NA. Also, we need pace up front and I don't think he's got that anymore.

Lambert has no pace but he is a brilliant target man. Swindon proved we need cover for him and JB on loan would be a good shout.

Blakey Eh - Think he must be the miserable Bus Inspector from "On The Buses" !

I think you have just blown his idiotic ramblings out of the water there Benji !

Hopefully NA might have a loan earmarked for this position but if not, I also think JB would be a good shout on a PAYP deal.

I agree with this - it makes sense for both parties. All depends on his attitude and wage demands. His wage expectations shouldn't be too high - he must have made an absolute mint and the pay off from Rangers would mean an average wage wouldn't be too much of a disappointment to him.

Heart says could be worth a shout, brain says probably not.

So much would depend on Beattie's attitude and his appetite for the game.

33 isn't too old for someone with integrity, passion, drive and commitment (Connoly is older), but it is ancient if they're just looking for a pay day in the sun!

Nah hes a big headed ***t.... Met him in town, asked if he would think about joining... he just replied, nah mate, saints are f*cking ****.

he is this..had a few run ins down town with him in the past..he is easily one of the biggest cocks from the saints team when he was here..and we had a few..

saints are far better than the team he now plays for......

getting him sounds good........in reality, cant see it being a good thing long term

I watched him play for Blackpool at Fulham last season, and he was terrible

I think we had the best years of BT, but he's completely past it now - awful first touch, really slow etc etc

I hear what FF is saying when he makes a slight comparison between BT and Lambert, but IMO Lambert is different class

when we were down town years ago...

he pushed in the queue at the orange rooms (or was it called simons wine bar at the time..cant remember)....when everyone in the queue kicked off..he told everyone to fuk off and remember who he is.........couple of the lads I was with went for him and MLT and Chris Marsden tried cooling the situation....

after calling him a ***** etc he was shouting at everyone that we should be greatful that he plays for saints as he was the reason we at least stayed up etc..

we reminded him that he was not that good and that he did not even play for england whilst emile heskey did...

he is a complete cock...

I've always been in the 'no' camp with this

However if he's free and has the right attitude (that he is back up to Rickie) then I can't see where we would lose.

Some have mentioned his ego, I've also witnessed it in town. But if he genuinely wants to be here, maybe he'll be grateful for the chance and wont want to ruin it.

Give him a trial! Might knock his arrogance out of him. Perhaps Adkins can ask him if he'd like his autograph!!

If he's able to compete with Connolly and Lambert then take him back! I think if Adkins rated him to be fair, BT would be welcomed back at SMS. He'd need a pay cut though! He did us proud, then gave us a good pay day and a laugh at Everton's expense when he turned crap!

Yes get Beatts at the club

Same old beattie always scoring

Hes a far better bet than donkey heskie

You mean donkey Heskey who's still starting regularly for a well-established Prem side and scored on the weekend, as opposed to scraping occasional appearances for a one-season flash in the pan Prem team that got relegated and then getting released by an SPL team ?

If he is the target man on the end of the move he doesnt need a great touch he just needs to find the back of the net!

You do have a point with the pace though!

Weird one this. I'd love him back, but this isn't 2003 and we don't have Marsden or Bridge either. I think I would have said "yes" to him if we were still in League 1, but now it'd be a no.

He's not going to get any better (and he was awful for Blackpool if you watched any of their matches) and he's probably not got anything to prove, or at least I presume he would feel like that.

Plus, can't see him being a great influence on some of our other players ...

Jeez

Again so many muppets have no understanding of Sports Psychology and why we are ebing successful at the moment.

Beattie is poison. He is a self centered egotistical has been. The only club in this region that type of player is now welcome is at poopey.

Have none of those advocating "bringing him in" listened to a word that NA or any of the players have said in the past 12 months.

Want to sign a Celtic reject but want to hang themselves because we bought a Celtic player with CL Experience.

Christ. I'd rather have Puncheon back.

Wouldn't mind the club letting him train to get his fitness back up.

He did great things for us but that was in the past, Beattie's time has come and gone, he'll be remembered fondly here for his goals and we should help him out where we can but he's past it at this level, wouldn't be impressed at any attempt to sign him.

I don't know James Beattie personally, but it's not as if you can actually derive too much from what Nige says. For a start, he says the same things all the time, and they are normally cliches to the point of being meaningless.

e have done it before !!!

"In the 2007–08 season, Connolly played just five games, three of them in the league. In the 2008–09 season, Connolly did not make a single appearance. He was released on 28 May 2009.[7]

After being released by Sunderland in the summer of 2009 he became a free agent. On 8 October 2009, Connolly signed a deal with League One side Southampton, lasting until the end of the 2009–10 season but capable of being extended by a further year if he hits an undisclosed number of appearances" Wiki

Why is beattie poison? Do you have something to bak that view up? I have met him a few times an he always seemed like quite a nice guy.

I hate this assumption by fans that we think we "know" players and are willing to slag them off, criticise them based on an assumption that we are correct in our interpretation of their attitude. Recently we've seen it with Puncheon, Beckford and now Beattie. All we can judge them on is what they do on the pitch - it's up to the manager to make the call over whether they "fit" or not.

I love how people are conveniently forgetting his record at Sheff Utd which was just over 1 goal every 2 games. This was only 2 years ago. Let him train with us, it will become clear very quickly if he is still motivated. If he's motivated, he'll be more than good enough to provide backup/competition for Rickie as our target man. If he is not, no harm done. Nige will tell him he's not in our plans and we move on.

A few incidents in Dock Gate 4 have spread by word-of-mouth.

Only time I met him, he was great.

I have also met him on a night out, whilst I was hammered on a stag do. He happily posed for photos with the Stag (who is a Pompey fan). He was a good laugh.

We honestly probably got the best of him last time around.........not a good idea to go back.......if a striker at Rangers can't score goals against the sort of inept defences they play every week he is hardly likely to cut it in the Championship.

Best just to keep the relatively pleasant memories rather than risk a second time around!

A striker not being able to score against certain teams doesn't reflect the whole picture. You have to look at the class of player you are playing with as well as against. You drop any really good player into a poor side against an inept defence it doesn't mean they will score loads of goals, as the quality of ball and positioning of your team mates has a massive impact on that. At Southampton he would be playing with players in my opinion that are better at setting him up for chances and giving him more outlets in general all round play.
