I think if the Swindon game taught us anything it's that we just can't make it stick up front without Rickie. Forte and Guly's hold up play is awful and DC is a midget. Barnard is hardly a target man either. I'd take a put on Beatts. He's on a free with a decent payoff from Rangers to boot so I doubt he'd demand extortionate wages.

He will regain his scoring touch at st mary's just like Skacel did for Hearts.

Hopefully he will also lose two stone and gain three yards of pace.

I wouldn't take him. I don't think he would fit the style of play that we are trying to play. He never had a great first touch and that is obviously importantto NA. Also, we need pace up front and I don't think he's got that anymore.

if he's not good enough for a top 2 spl club ;)

yes, provided his wage demands were realistic & he was willing to join the squad I'd give him a chance.

If we assume he'd cost circa £1m then that's a decent saving to add to his salary, maybe a 1 year deal would balance the books with the benefit of relative low risk as we could let him go. He'd have a lot to prove in that time though.

If he doesn't sign up with a new club straight away, why couldn't he train with the club?

How does a 30 something lazy cokehead fit into our 'young and hungry with something to prove' ethos?

Take him on trial. If he can prove he's still got it then sign him up. If not, let him go with a 'thanks for the past mate, but we've moved on'. Win Win.

Nutshell

Beattie is better than Lambert and Barnard. IMHO

You're confusing the word is with was.

Would still take a punt on him though, i'm sure we would be at the top of his list for new clubs.

How come a 27 year old defender who played 9 times for Celtic last season is clearly sh ite in a sh ite team and unwelcome here, whilst a 33 year old striker who played 7 times for Rangers without scoring should be snapped up immediately?

Not anymore he isn't, you'd be surprised to see him these days. Total failure in the SPL for rangers, and in the premiership for Blackpool.

He's on the downward slide now.

I did not know he was a cokehead. I do not mix in those circles.

Have not been a fan of having him back.

But....if he's a free agent and keen to come, there's no downside risk is there? (assuming salary demands are reasonable).

Perhaps just let him train with us or maybe a pay-as-you play deal or conceivably a signing for 3 months until the next transfer window?

Beattie wouldn't be on the bus - he'd want a chauffeur driven limo.

Billy big b*ll*x and a disruptive influence on the most together squad we've ever had.

Adkins would be mad to even consider him.

Plus the fact that he's completely finished - did nothing at Everton, Stoke, Blackpool or Rangers.

In one thread people moan about signing a centre half who can't make the first team in the SPL..

the next thread people ask us to sign someone released from a team in SPL who failed even more.

But who has a good history with us.

Irrefutable logic. Michael Svensson to start next game then, David Peach on the bench.

Le tiss too? Maybe its I long for the days of 2003?

We can't sign any decent players, let alone BT.

If we couldn't even sign Gorkss what makes everyone think we could sign BT, this clubs a joke.

Ambition, what ambition?

Well if you don't think we have any ambition then fook off and support Crawley Town or Man Citeh.

Seems like Blakey was stood outside St Marys all night last night in his Saints bobble hat waiting for the SKY cameras so he could dance around in the background making faces. Seems disappointed it never happened.

Pay-as-you-play are a myth. Never happen, unless it's for a 40 year old who's about to drop down dead any second.

Or Jonathon Woodgate at Stoke.

I'd imagine BT will be getting himself back down to Southampton whilst he finds himself a new club. As far as I know he has still got some good connections within the club. If I was him I'd be getting on the phone and asking if he could train with Saints. This would be win-win. Beattie gets to benefit from our facilities and getting himself fit and Adkins gets a chance to assess him first hand. Could be a useful player to have around if he proves himself to be hungry enough for it.

Given his wife's family still live down here and he has young children I imagine you're right, he may well be down here a lot in the near future and it would indeed make sense for him to train at Saints. So if he then proves he has some fitness and some desire to play, why shouldn't he earn a short term contract? The main question would be how much, or rather how little, he'd accept in wages.... or will he seek yet another big pay day with someone like Leicester or West Ham.

Here he'd be useful back up for Rickie, but I doubt he'd be first choice nowadays, so his wages would reflect that .. and that may be hard for him to accept.
