No i've been blagged it isnt johnson its rodriguez. My mate was playing hardball. A lot of money apparently.

Ties in with the SSN news rumour...

Has your mate blagged you on the fact that he has signed or has your mate just read the SSN page and passed this on?

I'll reword that... Have we signed him and it's just waiting to be officially announced or it is still a rumour?

That is a great deal for the Hammers, he's a bloody good player on his day. If we didn't have Adam I would have taken Bentley like a shot.

Something to prove now too. That is BAD news for us, very...

Also Henry Lansbury.

You have a far higher regard for him than I do.

"On his day" is the key term, and from what I've seen of him those days are far too infrequent.

If he was half as good as he thinks he is, he might be worth having.

He's had no chances at Spurs and when he has come in he has played well.

Harry simply doesn't like him.

Sadly, you will now see how good he is at this level...regularly, is my assessment.

(You don't have to like someone or they don't have to be humble for them to be a good footballer).

Worth seeing again for the craic...

I'm not talking about liking him, LTC. I'm saying I don't rate him because he doesn't produce often enough, and I suspect a chunk of the reason is that he rates himself too highly to offer the kind of commitment necessary.

Does he have the talent? Yes. Does he have the commitment? Not in my view, and I suspect that's Harry's problem with him - too much of a floater.

I respect your opinion but I'm surprised you'd talk about him in the same breath as Lallana, who has both those qualities - and a chunk of humility to go along with them.

Not in the same breath - just that there's no point having two right-sided creative players (don't get me wrong, I would have Lallana over Bentley until hell freezes over)!

But I think every team in this league would be delighted to have a David Bentley.

I agree he is full of himself (find me a footballer who isn't these days), but I suspect Harry's problem is more that he can't make money out of him... oops did I say that out loud!?

I think that with something to prove, a former fringe England player with his talent, skill and vision will be a menace to teams (like us) at this level. Time will tell...

I am shocked if this is true. I would have seen Sam as more into character than this. Bentley is one of the most over-rated players on the planet - mainly by himself. Still good to see West Ham have wasted money which surely can only be to our advantage? Only one of the many rumours of any interest to us and that is J Rod. Lets hope our hard(ish) ball over the fee pays off.

I'm with you on this but LTC is right that he has oodles of skill.

I'm also with you that I wouldn't see him as Sam's kind of player.

However, Sam's the kind of manager who will either kill him or cure him, and if he cures him he's done a damned good deal.

I'm still glad we're not sniffing.
