Burnley Away build up

Saint Garrett

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

You should contact COLSLAW the Saints supporters group up our way. We are travelling up M1 tomorrow taking a couple car loads (& sharing petrol costs). Could always do a M1/Bedford Pick-up!

Our group discussion list is here, if you want to check it out...

Do you lot drive to most games from the Watford area? Drive back that way for midweek home games?

A winnable fixture if ever there was one. Howe's Burnley are unimpressive and I believe we have the stronger team. Three points please!
I don't think their first 11 look too bad at all. Recent results have not been great for them and we should be too strong for them based on our current form, but I fancy a draw tomorrow.

Let's hope we can keep that **** Charlie Austin from scoring against us again.

This. One of those players that really gets on my tits. Like Kevin Phillips...or Michael Chopra...or Shane Long. Pikeys the lot of them.

Obviously given our form compared to Burnley's at the moment we should win, but I think it'll be close. So a narrow 1-2 win for me, getting out of the car park quickly and being home within an hour so I can get ****ed up and celebrate.

Lovely.

Yes we do mate.

We have a mixture of Season ticket holders and non-Seasons.

Also travel away too. We are taking 10 to Burnley and 13 to Diveby County too.

we tend to rotate the driving or share-petrol costs for non-drivers.

Where do you love Buddy.

Sent you a PM, but guessing you might not have got it. Live in Northwood mate, so other side of Watford to most of you I guess. I'll sign up for that Yahoo group to keep an eye on any potential options etc.

SCOUT Phil Smith looks at the threat posed by Championship leaders Southampton at Turf Moor tomorrow.

A 4-1 victory over Birmingham City, their 13th successive home league win, saw Southampton move to the top of the Championship. Burnley have collected 14 points from a possible 33 at Turf Moor since March.

The Saints boast a record of 25 from a possible 36 away from St Mary’s. They are currently in blistering form having enjoyed six wins from seven in the league this season.

The lack of a holding midfielder in the visitors 4-4-2 is likely to be an area Eddie Howe looks to exploit. Jack Cork and Dean Hammond will be involved in penetrating runs centrally. Cork will come short to receive the ball. He will look to release Rickie Lambert and David Connolly in depth. Southampton will utilise space behind the defensive line in their offensive transition. Expect across the face runs from the pair.

Lambert has broken the magical 20-goal barrier in each of his previous three seasons. The former Rochdale man has eight to his name already this term, including a recent hat-trick against Nottingham Forest.

Connolly will operate slightly behind Lambert. He will look to feed him. Brian Easton and Kieran Trippier must close inside to eliminate this threat.

Adam Lallana will give width and attack Trippier. Expect inside diagonals when Lambert drops into midfield. With four goals and five assists to his name already this campaign, Burnley will need to keep a close eye on the Saints Academy graduate.

Offensive transitions will see the team move quickly to offer support. Danny Fox and Frazer Richardson will provide width from behind and deliver the ball into the box. The cross will be attacked diagonally. Richardson has three assists to his name, including two against Birmingham City on Sunday.

Guly Do Prado is not a natural winger. He prefers to act as a third midfielder between the lines. He will look to release Connolly and Lambert with penetration through the defensive line.

Lateral free-kicks taken inswinging by Fox. Four players will attack the ball diagonally. Expect a late run from one player towards the penalty spot. Competent handling will be crucial from Lee Grant. Lambert will look to pounce on any second ball at the far post.

as that's what I'l be doing tomorrow for the game as I'm going by coach for it which should be "fun" especially if we win but can see it be very

quiet if we lose but we'l see!

Half decent analysis though

Time for a Dalek visit.

With 18 points already earnt, do you still think Saints will come 17th in the Championship as you predicted?

- In 2010/11 Barnsley came 17th with 56 points from 46 games.

- In 2011/12 Saints have 18 points from 7 games.

In order to Saints to only achieve 56 points, that would see something like this from the remaining 39 league games...

Played 39

Win 8

Draw 14

Lose 17

I'd love to know where all those defeats are going to come from! ;) This league really isn't that great.

Sorry to bring some bad news but the referee (Anthony Taylor) comes from Manchester, isn't that a bit close to Burnley ?

He has done 2 Saints games

2007/08 Lost v QPR (H) 2-3 (we scored in the first & last min and Safri was sent off for a kick at one of their players),

2008/09 Lost v wolves (a) 0-3 (shocking performance - 3 down after 19 mins)

He has done 2 burnley games both WINS for them (2008/09 a v sheff utd 3-2 & 2007/08 H v v PLYMOUTH 1-0)

A good start and all those points should help us in the difficult times ahead. We are only in September and we are on course for consolidation,so yes, i stick with my prediction.

Having a look at the Burnley message boards they mostly seem to be expecting a thrashing (usually a sure sign of a saints loss).

Found this little snippet from a burnley fan which is a bit wierd (makes you wonder were this stuff comes from?)

re: Jack Cork on Burnley.Nice comments from a great player and someone who's always come across well in interviews. I've heard on the grapevine that all may not be well regarding Southampton's finances though and that the proverbial may soon hit the fan.

I hear all our financial worries get run by Burnley fans first, then we get told.

They are the ones that need to worry about their finances. Parachute payments, yet still can't keep hold of Fox or sign Cork....

I remember a similar post from a Palace fan. ''They're screwed, they're closing down the academy!!!'' bla bla...

LOL, surely he should factor in that we bif £5m for one of their players before the window closed... not sure we'd have done that if we were skint... Then again, it never stopped Pompey...

Surprised so many think we'll win. They're a good side regardless of results so far. I won't be distraught if we lose, so long as we compete. Can't win them all and it's a tough game. Draw would be great. Pretty likely Rodriguez will score.

They're not a good side - they look lightweight as f**k. If anything, they have shades of us in 2008/09 - a young side that's pleasing on the eye without being truly clinical but full of defensive soft spots. Am sure Rodriguez will come good at some point; but he's been pretty poor this season.

Turf Moor's always a tough place to go to -and so I'm not taking anything for granted; but I would say they are the weakest team we've played this season - bar perhaps Barnsley.

Why? on their own forums a burnley fan pointed out that they've only conceded 1 more goal than us but we've scored 3 times as many goals as them doesn't point to Rodriguez being that prolific. More likely that **** Austin will score given his past record against us.

I can see us winning this one Nigel will get the better of Howe.

Hope those travelling up today have a spare wheel with them.

We are doomed today. A flaccid 2 or 3 - 1 to Burnley.

Nothing to do with form or potential, it's just we ALWAYS play like that when Eric travels back from here to watch.

You'll recognise him easily. He'll be the one who misses all the goals due to bathroom trips after consuming every available pint of Real Ale within a mile of the ground.

Looking forwards to sending him abusive texts so he'll drop his phone a couple of times and miss some more.

Will enjoy DM.

Oh if we find a way to stop their main threat (ie Eric) then the result will come down to Ohio's trips to have a smoke
