S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Leon Clarke had a fight with PDC in the tunnel, not surprising considering how bad Clarke is and how much of a nut PDC is. Is he on loan from QPR, or did they just sign him perm?
Micky Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Sounds like things may be in the pipeline though. It's a pipeline ffs, there's always something in it. What would be the point of having a pipeline otherwise....!!!!
beavis17 Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Is he on loan from QPR, or did they just sign him perm? Think QPR agreed to cancel his contract by mutual consent and then he joined Swindon on a free.

bpsaint Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Just got back, enjoyable game to watch at times. We bossed the first half, some of our passing was a real joy to watch, had a great spell of about 30 consecutive passes that we came close to scoring from. Took the foot off the gas 2nd half and nearly let them back into it which was disappointing. Honourable mention to Lee Holmes, had a good game tonight, would like to see him try and force his way into the first team, there's no doubt he's a gifted player but the poor bloke keeps getting injured. musesaint Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 To be honest we looked a class or five above Swindon when we wanted to - the rest of the time we coasted Nice to go to Swindon and see us play reasonably well - the last two games we had there in the last two years rank amongst our most dire performances in ages - I felt cleansed tonight Lee Holmes did indeed look quality at times

Disaster for Swindon though, he'll be owed a big bag of cash and they don't really have it... If he punched Clarke, he could be sacked without a payoff, its gross miscondcut. The same thing happened with Magilton when the QPR players stuck together after he headbutted Buzsaky. Sousa was also sacked without a payoff as well. kpturner Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Apparently there was a huge punch up in the Swindon players bar afterwards also - they closed it early as a result.
Crazy Diamond Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 Swindon Town fans react: "The scoreline flattered us, Southampton should have had more, they had Mike Tyson up front he was ****ing huge" "I thought Southampton were there for the taking... If the defence had pushed their line further forward it would have closed down the midfield and put them under more pressure... Didn't think we played too badly overall and were beaten by a far better team on the night" "Saints were very impressive and totally controlled the game, we were chasing but just couldnt get hold of the ball" "Don't think saints needed any help but their second goal came from a cross by a player who looked a good yard off side" "Saints will beat a lot more teams in the championship with more comfort than tonight. Yes they were a much better side than us but they didn't look so confident after we scored, I was worried before ko we were in for a thumping and still think the extra game tonight has done us more good than harm" "Absolutely no shame in losing tonight" "We deserved to lose by at least 2 goals, I don't question that" "First half outclassed and chasing shadows. Southampton were good but we made it easy for them, weak midfield and Kennedy too easily losing his man for the cross that led to the first goal. Smith was at fault for the second goal"

Gingeletiss Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 Having just seen the goals on SSN a few minutes ago, I have to say how honest Rickie was, with respect to his goal. The keeper clearly caught him, and Rickie stumbled, but kept his feet and scored, he could of gone down and the keeper would of been red carded. So well done Rickie. Lighthouse Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 In one of the on-line papers Di Canio is having a go at Harding - Why? In the first half Martin was trying to be a smart arse, pushing the ball away to stop them taking a quick throw in. He got booked then, just before half time, slap head who scored their goal did pretty much the same thing before a free kick. The ref ignored it for some reason, until a few Saints players protested and he got booked. The bloke was clearly frustrated and less than a minute later went in with a pretty rash challenge which certainly deserved a second yellow. The refs only response was to blow for half time for some reason. In the aftermath of all this Harding and PDC ended up having a go at each other as they headed off the pitch. In those situations, as a striker, I'd always prefer to score the open goal than take a relative chance with a penalty. The ref might not always give it, for a start. I guess the match situation might come into it as well - if it had been the 10th minute, a red card for the keeper is much more beneficial than in the 92nd minute when the team's already got the lead. The refs only response was to blow for half time for some reason. In the aftermath of all this Harding and PDC ended up having a go at each other as they headed off the pitch. This. Also according to Merrington, there were further incidences of biased refereeing. For example, in the early stages their player landed a heavy tackle and got no punishment. Our player minutes later did something very similar and got booked. Then another of their players landed a similar tackle and got away with it. Merrington's opinion was that they were very similar, so why was one punished and not the other? Then followed the kicking the ball away incidents you describe, where Martin was booked and then subsequently they did the same and the referee walked away. As you say, it was only when there was a chorus of derision from our fans and the words from Harding in his shell-like that the referee deigned to yellow card their player. As Merrington said, refereeing consistency should be applied to both teams equally.
supersonic Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 The ref last night was appalling, I remember in the first 10 minutes, Clarke got put through for the ref to blow up for offside, he then looked towards the linesman who has his flag down and then felt he had to put it up because the ref had made the decision. This along with the blatant removal of all authority with the Swindon player's sending off at half time was completely embarrassing. Otherwise we played well, Martin looked a bit shakey on the ball, but he played well defensively. We seemed to take out foot off the gas in the second half and Swindon grew in confidence. Guly looked uninterested and Harding didn't have his best game. But Cork, Schneiderlin and Lallana showed their class. Was pleasantly surprised with Forte. He held the ball up well and made a few good runs, he held the line well and, I know he got a bit of luck from the keeper, but scored
