Jermaine Beckford

Seeing as we've had a 100000 page thread for every striker we've been linked with, we might as well have one for this guy.

I would be delighted if I'm honest. This is a guy that scored a decent amount of goals in the premiership last year, scoring at places like Stamford Bridge and Anfield. (I'm stunned that Everton want to offload him). He's got pace in behind which is what we're crying out for, and he's worked with Adkins (albeit for a short period).

If this comes off, I think it'll be a huge statement. Proven in the premiership, unlike Jay R, Maynard, Sharp etc..

Attitude aside, I'd agree (Nigel will have to micro-manage his tantrums).

Perfect type of striker for us. Got to imagine he'd link up well with Lambert too.

When you consider the prices of the other strikers we've been linked with:-

CMS 3.5m

Sharp 3.5m

Maynard 6m

Rodriguez 6m

Baldock 2m

3m would be a relative steal.

This, great post. This is the main reason why he'd be my first choice out of all of them. Especially as he has Prem experience (and did well). Just hope he's available on a modest wage.

6th time lucky ? You'd have thought we could have nailed one by now ?

How is CMS and Sharp getting on this season ?

I don't like him. Bad attitude and not much more than a poacher. Rickie outscored him easily two seasons ago.

Not really having a pop at you but unless you know him then none of us can comment on his attitude - it might be good or it might not. I'd rather concentrate on whether he's a good player and will trust Adkins and Cortese to make their mind up about his attitude.

Dear oh dear...get real people...please.

About what? It's been reported in the press and now from a fairly reliable source on twitter. Everton have massive financial problems and are desperate to sell. He's had one quite good season at PL level but mostly has been a Football league striker... Sounds perfectly plausible to me.

Why du think it unlikely, out of interest?

I think what Adkins has shown, and what Paul Lambert has shown, is team spirit can take you far

There's nothing worse than having a bad apple who wants to be the main man - Puncheon is a prime example, and if you ask Leeds & Everton fans about Beckford, he's very similar to Punch

I think it is highly unlikely that Beckford would want to drop down a level, so really can't see this happening.

However, I would absolutely love it if he did come here.

As others have said, proven in the prem which is more than any of the other strikers we've been linked with. Plus at a much better price (if the 3m is correct). In fact, if we we really did get knocked back with a 4.5m bid for JayRod and Everton are willing to sell us Beckford for 3m then we could offer him (JB) a 1m signing on fee to get him here and still save 500k; plus get a better player to boot!

There are no reliable sources on twitter, and beckford is not going to sign for us unless he has an injury we dont know about.

I think we clearly have an interest though - http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12040_7112467,00.html

Fair enough, but I trust sky as much as I trust twitter. I cant see this happening, and tbh I have to agree with the posters above likening him with puncheon. In the highly unlikely event that we signed beckford, I would hope that Nigel and NC had set out their stall to him. He's a cocky git, that doesnt seem to fit with our current team-spirit ethos. Just cant see this happening.

Fourth_Official Fourth Official

@

@S13SFC they bid 3m which was rejected and laughed at, we would want around 6m

Seems to think they want £6 million which could be why he isn't the number one target. Maybe we still think we can get Rodriguez for less?

Fourth_Official are a couple of die-hard Everton fans. I reckon he won't be happy with it if Moyes sold Beckford to us for less than 6m, but I think 4-5m is more realistic and they'd probably sell for that IMO.

Adkins has previously worked with Beckford and helped develop him, I can see this working out ok. Definitely not another Puncheon, majority of footballers have big egos, some can't control them, others can (managers).

Beckford is not coming..... please can we have a sense of reality

ffs

I agree he probably won't join us and I'm not convinced we're even interested but it's not an unrealistic suggestion. I need to end this post on a disagreeable note that indicates I know more than you....how would I do that?.....wait I've got it....FFS!

Other than the little tantrum which he had whilst at Leeds when we played them (and later apologised for) does anyone know where the 'bad attitude' tag comes from with him?

I've seen it a million times before when players come off and throw a mini hissy fit. Tevez has done it before but would people say he has a bad attitude?! It just shows passion and willingness to succeed. Chanelled correctly it can lead to great players and IMO NA gets the best out of players. As players grow up and get older the majority of them settle down and learn to control their attitudes, look at Anelka... He is hardly what he used to be.

I trust NA and NC with this one and know a player of his skill would tear up this division alongside RL. I think our only stumbling blocks would be if he is prepared to drop a division (he has played quite a few at Prem level) and his wage which is no doubt a lot higher than we would offer.

Those two reasons lead me to think it won't happen but it would be one hell of a coup if we pulled it off!

it would be surprising if there is any truth in a Beckford bid. To play him in the team, Adkins would have to drop a proven Prem and international striker who has scored in each of our 4 league games so far. Can't believe he would do that and that if he signs a striker it will be someone who could act as cover for both RL and DC but not a replacement. We all know where the replacement is needed and the higher the quality there, the better.

What are you on about? So the links with Sharp, Rodriguez etc and the multi million pound bids mean that we've only been in the market for covers for RL and DC? That's ridiculous. NA has made it clear that he's wanted a proven NPC striker as close to a marquee signing as we're going to get.

(At any rate, the whole idea of covers and replacements itself is rather outdated. Its a squad game)

ffs, leicester

Leicester are going back to Bristol City with yet another improved offer (their 4th) for Maynard. According to other reports I've read, they're also after Andy Johnson. Sven sounds pretty upbeat that he'll get Maynard this time. Also; I've just read that Charlton are interested in taking Lee Barnard on loan!

Disagree. The club have made it clear that they will only sign players who will better the team. That has happened with the signings of cork and fox. They have come in and pushed chaplow and dickson, both recent signings, down the order and in dickson case probably out the door. Adkins also dumped mills in spectacular fashion which given the history between them was surprising.

Personally I don't think any player is safe if somebody better becomes available.

The bid for Maynard is 5.5 million rising to 6 with add-ons apparently. Where did you read about Barnard?

Salary, ego, doesn't want drop from Prem, would expect start thereby would not fit with squad ethic, we wouldn't pay the £4-5m for him. Just for starters - is that enough?

I'm assuming that this is all in your opinion, and that the above post contains absolutely ZERO fact, so it was a complete waste of your time posting it really wasn't it?
