RonManager Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Much talk of the need to have another CB and also uncertainty of FR at RB. How's about moving him into the centre? He's a big tall lump and (for a CB) fast.
Saint_clark Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 How many years of playing people out of position and playing crap, and now we want to go back to it?
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Don't think this thread will last too long...... We don't need to play square pegs in round holes anymore, the days of that are long gone.
Evil Monkey Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Or Forte? He's struggling to get in the team as a winger.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 No thank-you After seeing as a few times now I can see how full-backs are absolutely key to the Adkins system that he wants to play in this league. Fox looks very assured on the ball and I wouldn't be surprised to see another right-back come in to be fair. But as for Richardson in the middle, not for me. Badger Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 As we are currently looking to find a left footed CB to play alongside Fonte, I don't think playing a right footed right back, out of position, in that place is a particularly good idea frankly. VectisSaint Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Quite honestly if you feel like having to play someone out of position at CB then Butterfield would be a better choice, at least he is a bit taller than Richardson and has far more experience. But the issue is we don't need to play someone out of position at CB, Seaborne and Martin are perfectly adequate, and are proper CBs. The issue is that they are adequate, we need someone better than adequate, especially now that Jaidi is injured. It was always a risk with Jaidi, most people could see he only probably had one more season at this level, his experience alone was worth the new contract. But he needs replacing and that needs to be done at least gradually this season, so either Seaborne or Martin needs to step up, or we need a better option. Clearly NA thinks we need a better option for the short to medium term, hence his attempts to sign a replacement. Playing an existing player out of position is not what we need, and would only be done in a real emergency (and only then if the loan window were shut). Legod Third Coming Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 What about Cork? He played there for us before and it would allow Morgan to play in the team.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Butterfield is a better full-back than Richardson - for me he is our biggest weak link right now.

patred44 Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 the easiest solution if we don't want a repeat of that 1st half performance is for us to get our finger out and get a center back in.. but we've only had since the 1st June to do that! SNSUN Posted 29 August, 2011 Share Posted 29 August, 2011 Can't Morgan also play centre back? I seem to remember reading about it when he signed. Chris Baird was a rarity, moving into the centre and doing well. I don't think Richardson's even that good in the position he's supposed to be good in. As has been said, Butterfield is the better right back imo.

david in sweden Posted 29 August, 2011 Share Posted 29 August, 2011 all this chatter about a CB.... *!#??**! We need a " Jahdi-clone " . A tough, tall, ball-winning S.O.B. who is built like a brick outhouse and can play in front of the more-cultured Fonte at the back.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 29 August, 2011 Share Posted 29 August, 2011 What about Cork? He played there for us before and it would allow Morgan to play in the team. Not a bad shout that. Cork played CB for us before and did pretty well if I recall correctly - and that was as a relatively raw youngster. The point you raise regarding the advantages of finding a starting place for Morgan Schneiderlin (far too good for the bench IMO) is equally valid. The drawback of course is that we would miss out on Jack Cork's excellent attacking midfield play. Nevertheless, this option is a real possibility should we fail to sign a quality CB to play alongside Fonte.
eurosaint Posted 29 August, 2011 Share Posted 29 August, 2011 The clear priority is to sign a quality CB ! The alternatives (as proposed on here!) should be last resort and only used during matches as emergency solutions !

We need to build up a combination of tough CB's who can carry it over to the Prem. next season.. ala ....Ken Monkou, Dean Richards, Claus Lundekvam, and Michael Svensson.
