Thedelldays Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Seriously. Every game we have played so far the opposing fans have been raving about him. Obviously we knew he was cracking all along But how goos is he?? Once Parker etc have been sold, would he be the best player in the league? I think he is such a great player and one of those you would pay just to see him play

SaintRobbie Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 I think he has talent, but is sensibly nurturing it at Saints. If we do not promote this season we will have a great deal of interest from other clubs, but we need not sell and that is the key. Another Oxy-moron Chamberlain to sell on if he seeks his opportunity before club loyalty. We'd certainly get enough from his sale next season, given the way he is developing his reputation, to finance an even stronger push on promotion next season were we to fail this time. Legod Third Coming Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Years ago on this forum I said he was like a young Steve Gerrard and was laughed at... Probably rightly, because he has so much more natural skill than Stevie G. I think he's the best midfielder for skill I've seen bar possibly the fat bloke. Saint Charlie Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Superb player. If he can improve his shooting slightly then he could be an England player IMO. He will be in the Prem next season with or without us, and rightly so.

Jez Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 I rewound it and laughed a lot at the highlights for the Leicester game yesterday for our first game, when Lallana turned the defender inside out and he had no idea what he was going to do, and just ended up falling over in confusion. Shows how good Lallana is!

Of course I did, even named my boy after him, but Lallana's close control is as good, if not better, and this is the important bit and I'll put it in capitals so you'll understand, IMHO. Golden Balls Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Fantastic player and will do well in the PL. However he needs to improve 2 things, his shooting. And knowing when to pull the trigger. He often takes one touch too many.
Sour Mash Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Love watching the lad play, absolute class, but I keep banging on that he often takes one touch too many, tries to beat his man for the 2nd or 3rd time, when he needs to be more direct - have that shot, put in an early cross or pass. CWD Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 His only weakness (imo) is his finishing, which can be erratic - sometimes breathtaking, sometimes woeful. If he can sort this out he'll be England quality. I've never seen a player retain possesion like he does. He makes terrible passes seem superb. The Dalai Lallana is the new Le God! Dig Dig Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Yesterdays first goal makes me laugh when he confuses the right back so much he ends up on his arse! Yea that was quality, a few more full backs will end up in the same position this season as well. As has been said before, he has everything apart from blistering pace but he has so much skill and comfort in possesion he doesn't need it. If he can improve his finishing in the times where he just needs to put his laces through it then he could be be right up there with saints legends of the past
Avenue Saint Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 He is a special player who no amount of money can compensate for what he individually brings to our club! Priceless? Absolutely. Opinions find themselves travelling, we need to all collectively agree that he can never be considered for sale full stop. So don't talk about values, don't go there full stop. Matt le tissier however, in my opinion will never be equalled in terms of worth by any other saints player I may see. That's my opinion. Once in a lifetime player, that I was blessed enough to watch in my own time. Lallana, is the heart if this football club and has potential to be a legend, as good as le tiss? He's 23 now and yes he may be one of the best prem players in years to come but no he will never be as good as le tiss.

St_Tel49 Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Very good player but to say his close control is better than mattys is complete rubbish. View from the top must be on top of millbrook towers to think that. No it is not complete rubbish because he is certainly at least on a par with Mattie for close control. He has the quickest feet that I have seen on a saints player. I think that we MUST get promoted this season because it simply would not be fair to keep him out of the premiership for yet another season and I don't want to lose him! LostBoys Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Only criticism of him is his powder puff side footed shooting. I only saw the highlights on TV but it looked as though he shot straight at Schmeichel every time
sfc4prem Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 He's needs to work on his finishing. He often tries to place it but ends up shooting straight at the keeper. Golden Balls Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Why cant Adam become as good as Le Tissier,is no one else allowed to touch the legend. Because it's such a big ask. You do realise how good that man was in the top division? I think he can be mentioned in the same breath and especially if he shows the same loyalty. He can be this generations MLT, but as good as? We'll see.
yorkie Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 He has to convert more chances. He just isn't clinical enough. But we have others to do that job so he needs to pass if he can't finish. He is more about creating the opportunity than finishing. He does score goals but he is miles ahead of most. Technically gifted with quick feet and excellent close control. If we look like being in the mix he won't go as I expect there to be a clause in his contract regards salary.
The Cat Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Personally I don't mind him taking more touches and trying to beat a player an extra time. If he was slightly more direct, had a touch extra pace and could shoot better he'd already be in the Premiership and not playing for us! I agree with VFTT about his touch, he hardly ever miscontrols a pass and has that sublime ability to bring a spinning ball down out of the air with ease which even lots of top level players struggle to do. As for becoming as good as Matty, well it's hard to say right now. Obviously Lallana does a lot more work on the pitch than MLT ever did and their touch and skill levels are pretty similar. However he doesn't have the same ability to strike powerful shots into the top corner or ping in crazily accurate passes and crosses from distance as Matty did. Whatever the comparisons, I just feel blessed to have been able to watch both of them play week in week out for the team I support.
ericb Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Why cant Adam become as good as Le Tissier,is no one else allowed to touch the legend. Because he's not even close to being as good, Le Tiss was doing it from the age of 18 at a far higher standard and was arguably one of the best players in the world during his peak. My only guess would be that you're not old enough to have seen him play live, because if you had you'd realise the difference in standard between le tiss and not just our team, but most in the premiership now. The bloke was unbelievable [nod to the video] and is for me the best i think i'll probably ever be lucky enough to see in the red and white. ericb Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Yes i am old enough all i was saying was isn't he allowed to BECOME as good as Matt thats all. Everyone's allowed to and it's a bit confrontational and well (and i mean this in the best possible way) "internet argument stupid" to say otherwise! I'd just be very surprised if he did reach that level though since he just doesn't look as good at the same age, his vision is way off being the same, his touch is far away from being as good and his ability to place a ball on pretty much anything (goal, head of slightly disabled looking striker) isn't close. Still a class player mind and i really hope he stays the distance with us, but more Ken Monkou (in levels of talent) than Matt Le Tiss. Mind you i do tend to think there's a really insane habit on here for people to caught up in the "he's/we/they're the best ever/****" syndrome. Reality is we're most likely to see a lot of middle ground because of our standing in the football world (even if that is a little boring to accept)

As a complete player he's clearly not as good as Matt and unless he plays at the highest level he'll never be able to be compared to him. However, his 1st touch is sublime and his feet are faster than Matt's were. As I said, his close control is the best I've seen.

Saint Without a Halo Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 Out of our recent crop of Walcott, Bale, Oxo, Matt Mills, Surman, Best, Cranie, McGoldrick, Blackstock, Gillett, Fish Mills (all of who have gone on to forge good or reasonable careers in the top 2 divisions) I have no doubt that Adam Llanana will this season go on to prove he is at least up there with the first three and streets ahead of the rest. He could ultimately be the pick of the bunch and what an accolade that would be! Not many other teams can put together a list of such success! What a great youth system we really have. (and I am not even counting Kenwyne Jones who joined us as an unknown relative youngster)
