Swindon Town Build-Up

Is it just me, or does anyone else not really care about this noddy cup?

I think we have a chance of getting quite far in it this season, considering the third round draw. However the most important thing is to keep up the winning mentality in the squad to maintain our league form imo.

Would love to see Stephens get a game tonight.

OK sorry, would love to hear about Stephens getting a game on Saintsplayer tonight

Uh oh, it's not a League game. Will Saintsplayer have commentary? Solent often doesn't work online overseas

Stephens will probably get torn a new one, didn't play well against Kettering pre season.

For anyone local wanting to get tickets tonight they are not selling tickets to saints fans until 5:30 (which doesnt make sense to me and the girls on the box office didnt know either as we only had 750 sent down to Southampton last week)

Yes, tried to but some yesterday to save queueing tonight but was told the same. Will be an "away" ticket office donw the end of the Arkells stand near the stratton bank end, it will be the one with the big queue with 10 mins to kick-off

From looking at the U21's squad playing as we speak it's clear that Dean, Ward Prowse, Hoskins, Reeves (if none of them are on the bench) and possibly others may have travelled tonight.

Stephens though has not.

Bart, Butters, Martin, Dean, Reeves, De Ridder, Morgan, Chaplow, Holmes, Lambert and Guly is my guess.

Harlee Dean isn't starting, he has tweeted that he is on the bench.

I actually quite like this cup as it does give those not currently in the first team a chance to play competitive football. This only works of course for teams (like us) who have 2 decent performers in each position.

Our current back up team of:

Bart

Butters, Jaidi, Martin, Dickson/Fox

De Ridder, Schniederlin, Chaplow, Holmes

Barnard, Forte

Is actually not a bad team and probably would survive relegation from the Champ. I know some of those are injured for tonight, but the point stands, we are pretty competitive and would expect to win with that team.

Had a few messages with my Swindon mate at lunchtime, he was very critical and said they were dreadful 2nd half at Shrewsbury on Saturday and have now lost 4 league games already this season. They will be a threat from set pieces which is a worry as that is the area we look most vulnerable at at Leicester on Saturday.

The fans are starting to lose faith and get on their teams back, however they did have a good win away at Bristol City last week so we can’t be complacent and should give them respect not playing too many youngsters.

Get through this and beat Charlton/Preston at home then being in the 4th round will start to generate a bit of excitement, especially if a few more prem teams go out before then.

They said 6pm on Friday, hope that hasn't changed as we have made arrangements to get there between 5.30 and 6

are we deliberately trying to lose then???

I'm not sure anyone if football cares about it.

Don't suppose we'd have to much of a problem shifting 30 odd thousand tickets for a day out at Wembley though, should our reserve team get that far!!

As somebody else mentioned, it is a good chance to get fringe players a full run out, and even stake a claim for 1st team duty. Our "2nd" X1 isn't too shabby to be honest, and without a game like tonights to keep there interest up they could quite easily get a bit rusty. We certainly seem to have more strength in depth now, compared to The JPT where we had to use most of the optimum starting X1.

A good chance to get the winning mentality back on track, especially with a blank weekend coming up.

Was thinking of going to this but am somewhere else atm so will be giving it a miss and can save my money/ST for another game or something!

Can see us win tonight (No Disrespect To Swindon!) and either play Charlton/Preston in Rnd 3-(Could also become a potential Banana Skin like someone on here said as well but hopefully Not!)!

Am going to go for 3-0/3-1 Saints at least if not more with Lambert/Guly, Holmes, Martin for Saints!

Will either watch/listen to Final Score if Solent aren't commentating on it tonight but will definatley listen to it if they are!

COYR :D!!!

psh....not really....but if we get past Swindon we've got an easy home tie against Charlton/Preston...and then we're only one game away from the 1/4 finals...so with a bit of luck we might make a decent run of it. It'd be a nice way to sort of announce our presence as a top level c/ship/low-level Prem team and might put us on the map a bit.
