SB Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 This isn't a knee jerk reaction post, however the game today shows we lack a decent centre back, And need a prolific striker.. We can finacially out power most teams in the championship, so rather than fairily sniffing around players cut to the chase and sign them up. Failer to do so is not good enough and will show a lack of ambition. If Oxo wasn't sold then the situation could be slightly different.

Alain Perrin Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 This isn't a knee jerk reaction but Adkins should be shot for a result like that. Fact 1: Failure to 'show ambition' doesn't mean paying 6 million for strikers who aren't proven names. Fact 2: Whilst we might be able to outspend most teams in the Championship, even if we could, doesn't mean we should. Fact 3: Oxo wasn't sold. He wanted to leave. Fact 4: Look at the table, look at the points and shut the **** up.

If we had paid several millions for some of the players mentioned on here recently I for one would be well ****ed off. 6m for Rodrigues would be daylight robbery. We need a CB and striker but just because we apparently have some money why should we be ripped off.

Spudders Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 I wonder if today's game has made Adkins think about areas where the squad needs improvement? Or, if there maybe a small chance that the club are already aware of where we need to strengthen and are doing something about it behind the scenes? It's a difficult one this, hummmmmmmmmmm??????? Also, just another thought, but when you invest millions in the purchase a football club, bring in new players, pay wages, etc, does getting 12 million from the sale of a player count as profit, or is it getting a return on some of the money you've already put into the club? Again, another difficult one...................
SNSUN Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 Yes we need a CB and a striker, but not for gay money. Spend it wisely - there is a window in January. Let's ruin Coventry. Bring in Jutkiewicz and Crainie. Watch them burn. (No vendetta, just for shyts and giggles.)
Roger Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 The game today shows we lack a decent centre back. a) Did you not have this thought before the game today? b) If we'd drawn 0-0 would you suggest we DIDN'T need a new centre back? IF this 'isn't a knee jerk reaction' then don't say 'the game today shows....'. The game a week or so ago showed Bristol City to be better than Leicester. They aren't. We need two things. A new centre back and an end to this narrow minded one game mentality. But it comes down to value. We see 12m come in and want it spent, but the prices for many players out there puts me off completely. No id have still said we needed a centre back if we had drawn 0-0. I also think we need a striker with a bit of pace. However, think our manager is superb and we are very lucky to have him.

Hedgehog Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 If you listen to Talk Sport, Five live and such radio shows, near on everyone who rings in suggests that what their respective clubs need one more striker and one more CB to strenghthen their team. It is not just a Southampton thing. There are many teams competing for these players, i still think we will get our 2 desired players, but hopefully not at stupid money. Under Weststand Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 Would I like to see a couple of signings that would enhance the squad, yes! Would I like to see the wrong players brought in at the WRONG price then NO! NO & NO again. Are we that desperate for players? Once again no, even if the right deals can't be done in this window for the right price, then we will have another opportunity in January window. Also there will be opportunities for loans from the prem in the next week or two.
