Leicester 3 - Saints 2 Post Match Fred

On my way home, just some points:

Awful first half performance, defenders seemed all over the place.

3rd Leicester goal shouldn't have counted, Bamba was all over Lambert.

Much better performance in the second half.

Lallana best player on the pitch, really should have scored in the final minutes, decided to take a extra touch though.

Probably the worse performance I've seen from Lambert.

I wish Connolly was 5 years younger.

Shame the run has come to an end but it had to happen eventually, second half sounded fantastic, we were battering them, denied by Schmeichel as far as I can tell. At least we went down fighting. Just because we lost today does not mean it is all down to not having signed a decent CB, it sounds like the 1st goal was down to Fonte and the third to Lambert, don't recall too many saying they should be replaced. Sure we need another CB, and idiot can see that, but we already had 4 decent ones, just a shame the one who should be starting picked up an injury in pre-season. Clear that it will be Jaidi's last season and makes sense to bring in another CB to blend into the team. In some ways still more concerned about the striker situation, not because we haven't scored enough goals, but we are very thin on effective options up front if we were to lose Lambert or Connolly. Still its quite clear that NA knows these 2 positions need strengthening for the long term and I expect we will see new arrivals before too long.

Well done Saints, great start, run over, now lets start a new one.

Sorry how does it reflect badly on Adkins? Should he not have picked Fonte then? Are we assuming he didn't say keep it tight early on?! Once they're on the pitch it's down to players to cut out individual errors.

Least we can forget the 'never change a winning team' garbage.

We were getting no control from the midfield for long periods of the first half, something that had been a mainstay of our play in the first 4 games. In the second half we changed things around and did get control over the midfield. That would indicate that stamina was not an issue, leaving tactics as the main issue. I would have expected some instructions off the bench to reduce their control in the first half, but that never came until he could get them in at half time.

I am not talking about individual errors or plays that led to goals, but the fact their midfield were dominating, giving them opportunities that the law of averages find difficult to nullify. You can blame a lot on Seaborne, but without that pressure from their midfield, most of that would not have materialised.

Sounds like we threw the kitchen sink at them second half and deserved a draw. Shame to see th 100% and unbeaten record go, but in some ways may help us pressure-wise. We know we're good enough to be in the frame for promotion this season. Brighton and Poyet will no doubt be cocky as hell about being top and unbeaten...

Hey were still 2nd if we win 3/4 before we lose again were still be there or top.

Lets not forget this season is about getting a decent finish and maybe get playoffs at the best, but with the 4 in 4 wins we now seem to think as fans, its promotion or playoffs anything less is unacceptable.

Will wait for a detailed account from someone at the game, however it sounds like two things did for us - poor defending (surprise, surprise) and Adkins not pulling his finger out and making the Guly / De Ridder and Harding / Fox subs early enough to make enough of a difference.

I find it tough to question adkins decisions when the guy is a bloody legend and does nearly everthing right.

1st half did sound like the goals conceded were poorly timed 1st after 3 mins, 2nd just as we were edging back into the game and their third came just as we pulled one back and on the brink of half time. Says a lot about the determination and mental toughness of the side that they still came out second half and nearly pulled it back bar brilliant goalkeeping, most teams would have let their heads drop and just tried to keep the score down.

Is it any wonder we are a better side when Morgan is in it?

I would like to see him start every game. He's too bloody good to be on the bench.

Morgan is class should be in the team imo, but tbf hammond has been great, think morgan will start vs forest.

First half was horrific. Seaborne, Harding & Guly were shocking. Fonte was his usual self, outstanding. Cork Brilliant. De Ridder looks special. Kasper earnt his signing on fee today alone, incredible display. Quite how we come away with nothing is beyond me, despite a torrid first half. A fantastic effort by the lads and the happiest I have ever been walking away from an away loss. Up the Saints.

All of those who reckon that Fox impressed enough to claim a start at LB, appear to have forgotten the great goal that Harding scored to put us back in the match when we were two down. Easier to impress as a fresh pair of legs coming on late when you are battering the opposition than to shine earlier on when everybody elses' legs are as fresh and you are under the cosh.

You are forgetting that 3,000 fans watched him play ****.

May sound stupid but kind of glad we lost to Leicester rather than someone like Barnsley. Also a defeat will help keep expectations realistic rather than all getting carried away.

However, must say it was a brilliant second half performance by the sounds of it and plenty to be positive about - Lallana sounded awesome, could've scored more had it not been Schmeichel in goal and Adkins and Crosby are able to recognise problems and are not afraid to make changes. Disappointed but feel more positive after this game.

Just saw the goals on Sky. 1st took a telling deflection into path of Vessel, 2nd was speculative shot, but probably given too much room in centre outside penalty box, and 3rd was a diabolical decision by ref when Lambo was being fouled. Can't really see that 2 of the 3 were down to particularly bad defending, might concede the second should have been closed down by MF. Given Harding scored the goal that got us back in the game, bit harsh to suggest that Adkins should have subbed him earlier. In fact the subs seem to have been well timed. I think De Ridler (thanks to Paul Merson for a good laugh) replacing Guly was the more important change, Guly sounds a bit ineffective at the moment.

On the minibus home...

Thought 1st half we just didn't seem normal. Although the 3rd goal was a blatant foul!

2nd half we were on top the whole time. We had 2 shots brilliantly blocked and 2 shots brilliantly saved. Not sure if Connolly hit the post or if the keeper saved it. Then in the dying seconds Lallana chose to take too many touches when he had a great sight of goal. So that's 6 great chances on top of our 2 goals.

Thought De Ridder was awesome and now deserves a start. Guly was far too casual.

Lambert was nowhere near his best today.

Cork slotted in very well at RB.

Overall we deserved at least a point. On another day would have got all 3.

Saints fan were quality!

Leicester fans were embarrassing when they kept doing that Man City celebration. Gave us all a good laugh!!! Bless 'em.

Question? Was Seaborne poor? Was he at fault for the goals? Can someone tell me what he did wrong?

Sounds as if Vassell and Schlupp tore him a new one at times, too much pace for him. He has the turning circle of a bus, so any quick or tricky striker will have him done for pace/technique. I don't quite get Seaborne, he's not tall, strong or dominant enough to be a big bruising centre back, but he's not good enough on the deck or quick enough to look after players like Vassell and Schlupp who - to quote our ex-manager Alan Pardew - 'raped' him at times.

An Everton fan just called 606 and said he ended up at the game and that there was some great football, largely from Saints. He highlighted Cork and said that some of our play put their big spending to shame. Said Schmeichel made several class saves for them.

Just thought I would mention.

As positive as you can be after a loss. We started slow and paid the price, and got punished for our mistakes. Just as we came back into the game the third goal went in which was a foul. Even the Leicester players were embarrassed to celebrate. Second half performance was fantastic, and with some more incisive finishing we could have even had all 3pts. There will be games like this and we must react to our first defeat in a positive way and not dwell on it. 4 days to strengthen the squad and get a win at Swindon, then we work hard in anticipation for our next game.

Should have won that, simple as.

Let down by a Fonte F*** up followed by Seaborn back to his usual (appalling) self and some ref decisions that boarder lined on flat out cheating.

It should have been 4-3, a number of offsides were given against us that made minimal sense and too many fouls went completely unnoticed. Worse still Seaborn was destroyed by Leicester's front line.

Schmeichle was man of the match for keeping their TERRIBLE defending to just 2 conceded.

At very least we've shown with a few little tweaks we can compete (at worst) or even destroy (At best) any team in the league right now, and Adkins has the common sense to make most the right moves when he can (couldn't have subbed Harding before half time or Do Prado). We'll learn from this and come back even stronger (and hopefully selling Seaborn for some peanuts)

Proud of them, still playing great football, in the overall evolution of the side it is time for Fox and De Ridder to come in for Harding and Guly, despite today's welcome goal from Harding. I'm sure NA will get a new centre half in before the next league game.

Nice to see we've gone up a division and the refs have actually got WORSE. How that is never a foul on Lambert I will never know, ref deserves to banned/fined for that. Bar about half-a-dozen of them in England, they should largely be sacked and replaced with ex-pros from the lower divisions/Scandinavian officials until they can use their common sense and put their egos away.

Just back from the game. Terribly sloppy for the first 20 minutes and they were deservedly up by 2. Got one back and then there was one of the worst refereeing decisions i'veever seen. From a corner their player tried to mount Lambert and rather than usgetting a freekick the ball cannoned off Lambert into the net as he fell to the ground. Second half we were immense. Only a couple of good saves from their keeper stopped us getting at least a deserved draw. Mom the match for me was cork. Brilliant in midfield and then once moved to right back was equally amazing.

Just goes to show how important it is to start well, only heard the game on solent, but we didn't appear to start well and got punished. If only we started the first half the way we finished the second.

Wierdly deflated considering 12pts from 5 games is way above my pre-season expectations.

Southampton were the best side I'd seem down the KP for a long time. Brilliant football game.

Lallana gave him a lesson. The skill for the first was worth of a higher level.

Having said that, we did beat the best footballing team we have played for many a long time. If they manage to bring in another striker and a centre back I'd put a lot of money on them getting automatic promotion. They were excellent

Southampton are a very good side and will be up there come May. They reminded me very much of Norwich last season with their style of play. Good on the ball, good at the physical stuff.

Poor defensively in 1st half...slow to wake up.

2nd half brilliant.....18 months ago we would have crumbled, heads would have gone down and that would have the end of it.....how different this team is, playing likely want to and thought they could win in the 2nd half.

On the 2nd half performance we should be top 6 at end of season, but poor defending as in the 1st half we will end up mid table.

The wheels on the bus haven't come off....the tyres are little deflated but Nigel will blow them up over the next fortnight.

Just got back and thought we were very unlucky today, for those saying harding had a poor game i'm really surprised. Considering our whole defence was pulled over to cover richardson (who was very poor) i thought he did a good job, plus on top of that he scored, i don't really know what else you can ask of left back.

Lallana was his usual class self too, as was cork and there was at least one tremendous tackle from Fonte. I seriously think we'll play worse than that this season and win so i'm not too disheartened, just a bit frustrated at the end of the game.

Oh and for those that constantly bang on about the way we sing owts this made me smile from the leicester forum,

Must just say fair play to the Southampton fans. A long trip for them but they bought big numbers and were very vocal, outsung us for the most part.

I have to admit that their rendition of "Oh When the Saints..." from the Kop was quality.
