dubai_phil Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/coventry-city/8726307/Coventry-City-takeover-bid-withdrawn-after-concerns-over-source-of-funding.html Found this article this morning. Seems that "strongly supported by some prominent names" SISU crew failed takeover has continued to cause amusement. After failing on their promises to the Coventry fans (apart from delaying the inevitable) they are now the centre of a dodgy & probably failed takeover bid. Seems Sam Allardyce was an owner of the company trying to buy them. On it's own wouldn't warant mention except for having a smirk when I saw the name of the Coventry Chairman who again seems to have been unable to secure a "proper" bid from "a non dodgy" consortium None over than Mr Suntan himself Ken Dulieu. Amusing points - It is believed that bid was for just £1 - the identities of Hoffman’s investors, as yet undisclosed - despite detailed talks with the former Northern Rock chief executive in Burton-on-Trent last week (Wow head of Northern Rock eh - great track record HE has) - Dulieu confirmed that Ken Bruce, a retired lawyer and a former chairman of the investment vehicle Investing in Sport, had been present at that meeting. Sounds like another LLS Bruce is listed as a director of both Game 8 Ltd and its subsidiary Cuju TV Ltd at Companies House. Allardyce, manager of Coventry’s Championship rivals West Ham, is also listed as a director of both companies. Under Article 86 of the Football League’s rules, it is not permitted for “a person, or any associate of that person, who is interested in a Club” to be “at the same time interested in any other football club.” So while now with SISU only of interest to Saints as being a part of the journey to Marcus, it could have some ripples to unsettle both Coventry and WH. Anyway I smirked, poor old Ken he does pick losers to back.
Kingsland Red Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 A hedge fund was even more dodgy than Rupert etc in the good financial times, let alone now weathering the world's financial turmoil. Poor old Coventry, there but for the grace of God...
Reggie Dunlop Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 Speaking to a Coventry fan only last week, they are deep in the crap, fans want rid of SISU but they will not budge until they get there money back which they will not get. Stadium is council owned and they take a big chunk of gate receipts which leaves bugger all apart from shirts and catering, there but for the grace of god go us!! dubai_phil Posted 27 August, 2011 Author Share Posted 27 August, 2011 Interesting, this has caused some inbounds Skypes & PM's Ken Bruce apparently ran some business in Southampton and was alleged to be part of one of the groups of tyre kickers. So he finally got to make a bid for a club and then got knocked back because of the Big Sam link. Again, another comment was that the SISU bid really was rubbish BUT because of the divisions and the change at all costs of those days it really was taken seriously by some. About the only person who will have come out well from it was Dulieu. Not surprising there were allegations that the Execs of the time were on some kind of bonus deal if they got the deal approved. There but for the grace of God... The way they have hung around Coventry like a bad smell means we would have missed the window and circumstances that led NC & Marcus to our door. Poor old Coventry - how much have SISU cost them?

sadoldgit Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 And to think that there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when we "lost out" to Coventry. Hindisght is a wonderfull thing but even at the time SISU didn't seem a great option. Happy days. At last.
Micky Posted 27 August, 2011 Share Posted 27 August, 2011 Have a good friend who is a Coventry supporter, took great pride in showing me around the Ricoh when it first opened. Shame that it appears to be a kingdom built on foundations of sand though, and will now take an awful lot of underpinning. Always thought that we were mighty lucky and dodged a bullet with the 'Sisu deal'.
